Stayed at Pousada Aconchego for two nights in May 2017. This is low season and the price was good for the quality of the place. Clean, large rooms, with both fan and AC (not needed at this time) and good bed. This pousada is located far (i.e. 2 minutes walk) from central Abraão, which is probably a big plus during the high season, when streets get very crowded and noisy. I think the best was the manager, Andrea, who advised us on several activities, particularly hiking and biking, that she knows well herself. But, the remaining staff were also friendly and efficient. The breakfast is good: not luxurious, but it catters for most tastes, I guess. The wifi coverage was not good in our room, but we could access the internet in the lobby and restaurant. Internet speed is low, but that was also our experience in other places in the island (the alternative, 3G coverage with Vivo, was also weak). We don't weight this as an important issue. We were in the island to relax and live outdoors.

Friendly and good value

The rooms were bright, clean and quiet and had a fridge and balcony. Location is good (silent) and close to everything. 
Staff is friendly but don't speak English very well.
The breakfast is very complete.
A big plus is that you have this all for a good price. 



Very pleasant stay!

I stayed here on two occasions over a month, and was very happy with the rooms, the breakfast and the service, which was helpful and proactive.

The main issue on both visits was the internet, which was patchy, and at one stage was not working at all for over two days. 

While most aspects of my stay were great, as it was peak season, I was being charged 400 Reals a night  significantly more than some quality hotels in large Brazilian cities charge). To pay this amount, yet have absolutely no internet for days on end is simply not acceptable- I was unable to make travel arrangements, or complete job applications which I had hoped to do on my trip. 

I would like to reiterate that if internet is not a concern for you (indeed, many visitors to Ilha Grande may wish to disconnect from work and the outside world completely) this is a great option- every other aspect of my stay was excellent- but at this price, and in 2017, providing no internet is not acceptable.

Friendly staff, clean rooms, terrible internet

Five minutes walk from the pier and the main square, in a quiet street. Partly renewed, clean, basic rooms with a/c, fan and minifridge. We liked the breakfast, which included salty and sweet and was taken care of and replumped all the time. No common areas no pool no hammocks, it is a place to sleep and enjoy the rest of the day on the beautiful beaches.

Simple, clean and good breakfast

If only the staff would have been polite I probably would have given this place 4 stars. But instead it got 2, because of the following.

Ok, to be fair to the pousada (and it's owners I suppose) let's start with some plusses:
- the rooms are spacious and clean
- bathroom has hot water
- location is good; super close to centre, but still quiet
- breakfast is good.

Then the minuses:
- we had a room for three, and while the double bed was fine, the third, single bed was unacceptable. The mattress was extremely thin and worn out. 
- the bathroom window didn't actually have glass in it, making it more prone to break ins and makes it cold (when we were there it was only around 15 degrees c for a few days!)
- when we arrived the lady at the front desk was clearly annoyed we arrived (we had made a booking through booking.com - not very expensive by the way!). She did not look up, say hello or tell us we had to wait a little. No she said and did nothing. Then when we told her 'hello, we have a reservation' she told us (in portuguese) that we had to settle the bill. Turned out that she had already taken half of the amount due from our credit card. Although the hotel has this right, after using booking.com dozens of times, the hotel actually never did this. Anyhow, not the biggest issue. However, we wanted to see the room first and take of our backpacks. She let us do so, but not with any hospitality. All the other days, if you'd come in the restaurant/lobby you'd be lucky if she'd look at you. A hello or good morning would have been too much to ask. Breakfast is until 10, and while they could ask you whether you want a last cup of coffee at 09.50, they instead started to take everything away. There is no information about the island, nor a map. She also makes no effort to understand (broken :)) Portuguese. On the last day, when we came to checkout - we were late for our boat - she made us wait while the cleaning guy went to check on our room. In the cheapest hostel we've stayed in we've never experienced this. As it took the guy a long time, and the lady really couldn't care less about us having to leave, so kept on facebooking, we went up to check what was going on. The guy couldn't find the remote for the aircon and tv. She forgot that she hadn't given it to us. No explanation or apology, of course. So long story short; staff (and mainly the front desk lady) should not be working in hospitality.
