I stayed in Königgut Business Apartment from 29th November until 31st of December.  The last memory of my stay there was one of the most terrible and humiliating experiences I have ever had with hotels and hostels in general. I traveled in 10 countries on 4 continents this year so I have a lot of experience when it comes to leisure and business travel.  I hate to write about this and devote time to describing it, but I think it is the right thing to do (just in case someone considers staying there).

On my last day there, I had one of the employees and cleaning staff enter my room (when I was there), tell me to get out, remove my personal items and begin to clean the apartment. Since it was my company that booked the apartment for me, I made sure to ask on the 31st of December, when the moving-out day was. I was told by the employee (the lady with gray hair) at the reception that it is on the 1st January. I was also given no precise check out time (and there was no check out time mentioned on the general information I received at check in). 

Since I had already plans for the upcoming night, I told the lady that I would move out on the 31st of December. I just need to take my things and promised to return the key in two hours. She said there is no problem with that. Half an hour later she showed up with cleaning staff and demanded I move out, they entered the room and started taking my things (toiletries, pads) from the bathroom, putting them on the kitchen sink etc. Everything got messy and I was very confused what was happening as I was just finishing my lunch (which was also removed from the table RIGHT in front of me). I was very confused because  I was told I have one more day of reservation – otherwise I would have moved out before this mess was beginning to unfold. I asked and was told the wrong information. I had absolutely no problem moving out on that day and if I was told I had to (or if the lady gave me 5 minutes to pack my own things when she showed up) this issue would not exist. I thought it was lack of professionalism and I, frankly, felt like trash for the first time in my life.

On a very separate note, my apartment was advertised as business apartment, which is not entirely true. It was to be cleaned every week (every Friday). I arrived on the 29th (Tuesday) and it was not cleaned until the 8th of December (so no cleaning on December 2nd). After asking about it two times, the same employee (the lady with the gray hair), made sure to write down on a post it that I need to have it cleaned. It still wasn’t cleaned and I had to ask for it again. The apartment was also not cleaned on January 30th, because I assume that they were saving money on cleaners, knowing I will move out the weekend after. But the truth is, I spent my last night there in a mess with trash piling up (I also took the trash before myself to avoid some of that problem).

As for the apartment, it is definitely not suitable for business people. For instance, there are no hangers in the closet – business people have business clothes, so I am not sure that they expect guests to put them in a suitcase? I had to ask for hangers  separately. The kitchen was described as having two hot plates, but it had only one (so impossible to make a dish in two pots). There are no cooking pots or pans supplied, so I had to actually buy my own. No normal business traveler would buy their own pots…

I was also expecting a mail coming to me (as this is a business apartment I thought this is normal). The problem was that in the week 19th – 23th December, there was no one working at the reception after 6 PM. The hotel was closed so I had no chance to pick up the mail. In the morning, the hotel was open but there was again no one at the reception for three days (I rang the ring, waited for 15 min and was late for work three days in a row because of that). I finally managed to pick up the letter on Thursday. I also called before to ask to have the letter left at my room and of course, that did not happen either.

I am sure that hotel guests of Königgut have a positive experience, if they book the room for couple of days and don’t have to work during the day. For me, this experience showed they lack professionalism or care.  When I arrived alone, no one showed me the apartment, I was simply handed the key and told to ‘go find it outside’, which turned out to be 200-300 meters in a completely different building. So I walked in complete darkness in the village for 20min (I got lost in the meantime) until I came back to reception and asked again for directions and managed to find it. I had to figure out everything on my own, which is fine, but perhaps not the customer service quality one would expect for the price.

No one apologized to me for the incident yesterday, they actually blamed me for it and one of the employees laughed in my face (lady with the gray hair). Overall, I would like to communicate to future business guests that this is not a place to stay. Still waiting for someone to actually say sorry to me or explain the miscommunication.  I think that the fact this apartment was booked by my company, the fact I am not a native German speaker and that I perhaps look young for my age – all of those made the employees treat me a little differently. I felt that I don’t deserve to be there. I had the feeling every request I made was a big deal to them and I felt guilty for asking some of the basic things that one would expect in a business apartment. Overall, I hope to forget about this experience soon and move out with my life, but I would just like to hear a sincere apology from someone (and perhaps some consequences for the unprofessional employee).
