Our stay at Eden Lodge was horrible and the worst hotel we have ever stayed at.  There was no power on in hotel as the generator is only turned on at 6.00pm and the staff were using a torch to try and find our booking. We booked and paid 6 weeks before our stay but the reception had no record of our booking and payment when we tried to book in. Our booking details and payment were only confirmed the next morning.The trainee receptionist was clueless and had a serious case of body odour.  Her attitude was also surly and unhelpful.The room we were given had no toilet or towels and the floor was covered in live ants. The bed linen was below standard  and there was no hot water with which to bath either at night or in the morning.The trainee receptionist/waiter did not know what food was available on the menu and had to go backwards and forwards to the kitchen to find out what we could order.There was no butter or margarine available to spread on the bread and the milk was sour.We paid for two nights but checked out after the first night. No refund was offered.When we drove up to the exit gate the guard demanded that we return to reception and get an exit pass.  We did not know we required a pass and were not given it by the receptionist when we booked out.  It was not possible to turn around at the exit and we had either reverse all the way back to the reception or drive on until we found an area in which to turn around.We not ever recommend this hotel to anyone.

Eden Lodge Vumba worst hotel stay ever

We enjoyed 2 nights here. Staff were 100% professional, attentive and lovely.  Menu fairly basic/standard offerings of steak and chips, chicken and chips, curry etc but very tasty and great value.  Close to the nice things to do eg. Tony coffee shop, Ziva, and botanical gardens etc. Also they offer activities and there's a waterfall in walking distance, so plenty to do on site. (Tiny suggestion for improvement....Reception/lounge area quite dark. If it was my place I would move the giant banner that blocks a lot of light, as does the creeper that now covers all the windows, and open up the wide stairs descending into the garden in front, so the view of the lovely forest is better. I would also plant some more trees on the big lawn area).  We would go back, it exceeded our expectations.

Exceptional staff & good value for money

The place lies in the heart of Vumba, its an exciting & fun place. There's a dam for  canoeing and a Forest to trail yourself out! You need to have mountain boots to enjoy the trails and the surrounding sites!

A memorable weekend awaits!

Was there for a weekend outing with our couple friends, and it was quite a relaxing weekend away from the hustle and bustle of city life. The food was GREAT, albeit low on variety, and sometimes low on the speed of delivery, but the cook did a really great job with what he had. Ended up eating the T Bone more than once over the stay. 

The excuses for the missing truck (for transportation to the falls) as well as the non functional swimming pool were a bit of a put off, otherwise their staff are nice and friendly, and clearly doing their best with what they have. The rooms need an upgrade, especially the bathroom facilities, now archaic and out of tune with modernity, and their hot water capacity needs some improvement as it couldnt supply the 2 adjoining rooms we used at the same time. 

However, would definitely go back again, the only downside being the weather, this time will be better prepared. The very good on my rating is mainly a thumbs up to the employees, but the owners could do more to improve their place.

A weekend excursion.

I’ll begin by saying I was very dissapointed by my experience here. We were welcomed warmly when we arrived, however everything went downhill from there on. We immediately ordered lunch when we arrived and were informed that our food would take 1hr30 despite the fact that the generator was on. We were set up with wifi however 30 min after we settled down, the generator suddenly went off and the wifi went off with no explanation to us as the guests. When we asked about the wifi, the waiters didn’t seem interested in helping or giving us a definite answer.  We only saw 2 out of many waiters wearing face masks, and when my drink came the waiter opened it with his teeth. I was very shocked considering we are in a pandemic, and ordinarily one should still use an opener. Overall the customer service was poor and the venue was not clean. The pork and bream dishes were however good, but the fries were over salted and the potatoes were dry and hard. It's a pity because the place is beautiful but their service delivery is quite poor.

A disappointing lunch and afternoon

Nice, furnished and maintained outside view. Beautiful insides with quality furniture. Good beds and fair prices. Made for the medium to hire income earners and the rest may find it hard to cope with the prices.

If its good enough for politicians, its good enough for me!

The room was neat but need extra hovering. The food was good. Staff very friendly and helpful. Nice place for retreats and escapes. Canoeing and horse riding available. Would have loved a swimming pool though. Clean bathrooms, hot water and borehole water.

Awesome retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the town life....

We were staying at a nearby lodge but decided to spend Christmas Day at Eden Lodge, especially with the many activities that were apparently available.

First sign that all was not well was when we arrived at the lodge and got zero recognition from the staff wandering around the place. 

Second sign, when we eventually found our way to the reception and promptly requested to pay for canoeing, we were told the canoes were "undergoing repairs," a strange time to repair canoes considering the hordes of holiday makers making their way to Vumba. An hour became two, then three and eventually we were told the canoes were not gong to be available.

Third sign, we eventually opted for horseriding and our nightmare became full-blown.  We joined a group of other bewildered holiday makers that were waiitng for their turn to ride the horses but had no clue who would go first. We eventually agreed amongst ourselves who would go first but chaos ensued once some guests "spoke nicely" to the solitary guide leading the horses and jumped the queue. eventually someone suggested that we visit some waterfall three kilometres away with the hope that by the time of our return it would be our turn to ride the horses.

Two hours later, we returned to find an even longer queue and an agitated crowd. The guide, who was clearly overwhelmed advised us we'd have to wait for another hour as the horses needed to be fed but promptly changed his mind when another guest "talked nicely to him." The worst was yet to come...

Once the shameless guests got on the horses we noticed something different with the horses' demanour. One was especially agitated and would not follow its rider's guide. The rider was a girl about 12years and she looked frightened as the horse wandered around aimlessely. The guide did not bother to attend to her and rode off into the sunset with the other guests. The horse was now gathering pace and running downhill forcing the girl to cling to a tree branch to escape potential injury. Still no one attended to her, or the horse. The horse was left to gallop around the parking area, sending holiday makers scurrying for cover.

Eventually we decided to cancel our payment and requested a refund. The queue had gotten long and the horses were clearly not in a mood to entertain the humans anymore. We were informed refunds could only be processed from Harare, 300km away and that they were closed for the holidays anyway. More than a week later, no refund, no explanation and Eden Lodge is better off called Nightmare Lodge.

Its difficult to say anything nice about the place. The service was horrible to say the least and the little to remember about the place was not pleasing. An old bus that looked like it was abandoned at the car park centuries ago and grounds that seem reluctantly curated.

A definite place to avoid in an otherwise remarkable corner of Zimbabwe.

Nightmare on Christmas Day

We had an awesome time as a group of students from Africa University at Eden Lodge for days outing. They have an awesome gazebo and a braai place which which we enjoyed as well as a water body for those who like water peddling I highly recommend this location because of its friendly and highly efficient staff 

Great Place

The local area was good but there are few issues that could be looked at to improve.1. Increase power supply points within the cottage. One power power for two bedrooms is a bit too conservative. 2. Improve WiFi connectivity to the rooms.3. Restaurant service was very poor. A lot of guests ended up having meals away from the lodge.
