Mai House is a few km south of the main town.  A few hundred metres from the main road so you are real close to a bunch of street food restaurants should you so desire.  Beautiful garden setting and is right on the beach with a great pool.   Some of the trees in the resort must be growing since Phu Quoc was discovered.  They are huge.  All the bungalows are nicely spaced out and private.  Not just a straight line of bungalows.  The gardens are well tended and lovely.  The "superior beach front rooms" aren't really beach front but more like "angled view toward the sea".   All the rooms are well located, some better than others but hard to tell what you are getting from the booking site.    

The beach is nice but the water isn't great.  Cloudy and a little froth on top as you would expect with so much nearby development that drains through the sand.  Nice loungers on the beach and at the pool with umbrellas.  Nice but not geat sunsets.

The bungalows are traditional, wooden doors and windows.  Comfy beds.  Good aircon.  Usual low wattage lamps but OK.  No TV.  Hot water was solar and took several minutes to arrive.  Wifi was real flaky.  Fantastic bandwidth or none.  Yes there are geckos.  There was one rooster but no big deal.  Where isn't there wildlife in Asia?  We didn't see a single mosquito.  The housekeeping girls arrived at dusk and with military precison entered the bungalow, lit an incese burner, arranged the very nice mosquito net around the four poster bed and then lit a mossie coil outside near the door.     

Breakfasts were OK.  Not a great range but nice fruit, cereal, baguettes, bacon, crepes and eggs made to order, good coffee. Restaurant is right on the beach so a great start to the day.  Happy Hour provided a free cocktail of the day to each guest.  No choice.                 

There are many dining options nearby and by walking up the beach we sampled Cassia Cottages and also the wonderful Peppertree.   

Lovely resort, pity the water quality on the beach isn't better.

Lovely stay

We stayed five nights and Mai House Resort.  There are tons of mosquitoes, everywhere. They have water containers sitting everywhere and even do not use anything in the swimming pool so we seen mosquitoes hatching in there. The rooms are very dim and not kept very clean. It is over priced for what you get. Also beware, they want you to charge all drinks and meals to your room.  You don't sign for anything for each charge or receive a receipt.  Very hard to keep track of or prove and I believe they count on that.We had only our first dinner there and we do not like charging so we wanted to pay cash.  They did not like that but accepted our payment.  So at the end of our stay, five days later, we were paying for the room and notice they added that meal onto our bill. We had to go through a bit of discussion to get it removed.  They were not nice about it. We would not return.

Good if it wasn't so expensive, Could be Much Better for the Price

Stayed here for 8 nights anwe are in general quite pleased. I've seen some complaining about bugs, but when living close to nature.....what else to expect? Nice pool and beach area with a lot of sun beds available. Technically, the bungalow would have desetved some minor upgrade as more lights and power outlets (for charging all your 'cannot be without gear'). Good restaurant quality although breakfast had limited selections for Western style. Dinner was really good and had seatings both inside and on the vetanda as well as beach. Very tentative and friendly staff. Recommended!

Stayed here after my friends had already booked and was in a garden bungalow. Firstly it was FULL of mosquitos when I walked in and I immediately asked them to sorry it out as I literally couldn’t stand for 3 seconds without 5 landing on me. They sent a lady with some incense and that seemed to keep them at bay a little but once it finished burning they were back and lots in the bathroom too so got bitten a lot. The bungalow was very basic and not very inviting and the water was cold the entire time, you’d get 8 seconds of hot water then it went cold. My friend had a sea view bungalow and that looked nicer and they didn’t have as many mosquitos so maybe choose one of them. Pool area and beach very nice and the restaurant looked over the beach but only had drinks not food you can walk a long the beach to lots of other places too. I thought Phu Quoc would be a little chic-er, it was a bit magaluf-y in some areas and there are much better beaches in Thailand etc. The staff seemed nice but the whole place just didn’t have a great vibe to it. Also they finish breakfast at 930 so you need to up and there by 915 as they start clearing at 930 so be warned. Also annoying to have to be up so early on a holiday and I thought a very odd and poor selection of food (I don’t eat meat). All in all It’s ok but would not recommend it to anyone.
