Jillian the manager was so welcoming from the minute we arrived. You can tell that they have done some recent improvements and after talking to the staff it was sad to hear that the property has been completely destroyed by the cyclone in 2015. We are so glad that we were able to support a locally owned and run business.

The food was great and really good value! It was great having wifi so we didn't feel completely shut off from the world (Easy to do in Tanna!).
We also loved that we could walk to town and walk to the market and beach.

We will be back for sure! Thanks for a such a memorable trip manmimar.

We stumbled across Manmimar Nature Lodge whilst we were traveling in Port Vila. We decided that we really wanted to support a locally owned and operated business and we are so glad that we did!

Comfortable beds, great staff, DELICIOUS food and a really easy location to be able to see everything in Tanna.

It isn't flash luxury, but when you are in Tanna you dont need it! We would highly recommend Manmimar Nature Lodge, Tom and his staff were brilliant.

Value for Money

First Tanna Is. stay we wanted local hospitality & traditional accommodation. Everyone was friendly& helpful for everything we needed. Accom was basic, brekky yum and local tours arranged. Shrt walk to town and beach for wonderful swim with locals. Tank yu to mus Melissa and Tom

First, lets be honest, the place does need a little much need maintenance eg fixing gas leaks and light bulbs.
On the other hand if you compare the $69 deal that we got, it is far better value for 4 nights than the $300  charged by some other places to meet their "luxury" status.

Manmimar has the basic  necessities, running hot water, 24 hour electricity, comfortable beds with mozzie nets in  pleasant tropical garden surroundings. The dining room can provide large, tasty meals from local products and COLD beer. It is handy to Lenakel village with its shops, eating places and market - better, in our opinion, than being stuck 12 kms out north of the airport. We were entertained  by the grandstand  view from our  verandah of the local soccer matches on the pitch below!

Jillian the ni- vanuatu manageress has great contacts to organise tours to the Yasur Volcano and Port Resolution ( we recommend the latter with Sophie as the guide).

It is a "nature" lodge so be prepared to put up with some indigenous wildlife!

Great budget accommodation for a few days stay

We like that Manmimar is run & staffed by locals. It is also in an extremely convenient location: obtaining drinking water on Tanna is not an easy task. Some hotels have supplies from springs, etc., but many don't. Shops selling bottled water in the main town are 5-10 mins walk, as is the only bank, which is important as everything is paid in cash on Tanna.

Breakfast & (extra cost) dinner are basic, but good & filling.

Now for the down sides. We arrived through a fluke (there are no taxis at the airport and we were not contacted before about transfers) & no-one on staff knew what to do with us. Fortunately, the owner's wife (owner of Friendly Beach) was around to help sort us out. She also arranged our volcano tour. None of the hotel staff could have managed this.

The room had no hot water (a must after an active volcano visit). It also had slatted floors that allow many insects in (although you do have a mozzie net). Cleaning seems to be absent entirely.

Leaving was also tricky. Staff pre-arranged a shuttle that didn't show. Staff were nowhere (am on 1st Jan, but still). We woke owner/wife for help, but the wife said her husband (who didn’t come to the door) was the owner & it was not her problem. We said we might miss our flight. The response: "yes you may". No further assistance was offered. Luckily a run to town landed us a local driver to take us to the airport.

Yes, hurricane Pam did damage. But staff training & politeness are needed  if they wish to survive.
