So, the place was very much fine. The service was top notch, I never had any kind of problem. The people was very kind.

The location is excellent too, right in the center of Rivera. I never had to walk more than a few blocks to get to essential services.

Arrived and was happy to just have a room.  I had somehow inadvertantly booked a two bedroom suite for 6 people? 
Although  there was a language barrier I understood that I could cancel that booking and they would give me a standard room for less money.   The front desk staff were very accomodating and helpful even though we did not speak the same language.  

Pros:
- Staff, very helpful and nice
- Restaurant in-house
-Comfortable bed
- Parking (also a negative)
- Wi-Fi
- Functional heater

Cons:
- Breakfast is included, lots of bread but not much other stuff.  Milk could be cooled.
- Room is showing its 50 year age.  Mold in bathroom.  
- Linen a bit tired and maybe not clean
- Lobby Wi-Fi, I could never get it to work
- Street noise, Carousing on weekends to 3AM, motorcycles racing by.  It sounds like the window is open and you are at street level.  Hard to sleep.  
- Noise:  walls are paper thin.  I can see there are walls, but I can hear a pin drop in the next room.  Also the windows provide little noise abatement or draft protection.  
- Key is a bit clumsy and difficult to use
- PARKING:  this is the biggest negative.  I don't know if I misunderstood, or if I was doing it wrong but... each day, in the morning I would go to the front desk when I am ready to leave in my car for the day,  I walked to the parking garage area beside/under the hotel.  Then someone opens a locked gate and I drive out.  Sounds easy? Not really.  When I finish work for the day, I drive back to the hotel.  Unfortunately the parking garage gate is closed and locked.  So I have to find a parking spot to park, then walk in and ask them to open the gate.  A few minutes (once they forgot and after ten minutes I went back and reminded them) someone will open the gate.  Then the process of seeing how many clowns  can fit in a VW bug begins.  There are many cars and few tight parking spots. So they will try to squeeze me in to a spot that either isn't really a spot, or I need hand directions from them to avoid posts and other cars to carefully wedge my car into a spot.  Then in the morning the reverse occurs.  One morning I went out to find my car blocked in and they had to go find the key to move it. 

All-in-all, not a bad place.  Compared to the Hotel Jandaia, the Hotel Uruguay Brasil is cheaper, parking is way more of a hassle, breakfast isn't near as good, room is noisy... but... the biggest plus of all is the Wi-Fi.  The Wi-Fi at the Hotel Uruguay Brasil is the best Wi-fi I have ever had anywhere. Anywhere in the world I have been!!!  Skyping with my wife, I can see her clearly and she can see me clearly.  Great upload and download speeds.  This is the reason why I am giving this place a 5 star rating.  I am not sure if that outweighs the cons, but it is a big plus that made my stay bearable.

Well, please note that I never been to the "hotel" part of Hotel Uruguay Brazil.
I go often to Rivera, and this place became my favorite stop for food. They serve a fabulous entrecôte with roquefort cheese that I suggest you strongly to have.

The location is excellent, right in the center of Rivera, but its an old building that could have some renovation - well, this atmosphere is more or less a symbol of Uruguay, its not gorgeous in this case but works fine. Never been to the rooms, so I would check them personally before booking. 

But that entrecôte with roquefort... Gotta go to Rivera soon...

Only about the restaurant

We only stayed one night,the hotel is very old the hotel is centrally located only two blocks with the border with Brazil lots of shops duty free restaurantsone thing I can it was clean and the personal very friendly.

Close to the border

The hotel is old, they could fix/paint/upgrade some parts. The street is noisy, try to avoid the front dorms.

Despite that, the hotel facilities are good: a good restaurant (with parrilla), a duty free shop, free parking. In the room we had A/C, mini-bar, free wi-fi, cable channels, hot water.

The staff is helpful and friendly.

By far the location we liked best.
