Great little room, has the basic amenities, tv, wifi, and a small fridge in the room. Our bed was brand new and the staff was very helpful. Breakfast was nice too and the pool during the evening was amazing! Recommend 100%

Cozy place

The town has no ATM, the one that was activated on the last days of December has problems with foreign accounts. Would be great to have a kitchen a little bit bigger, the one  they have is for one or two persons cooking only. wi-fi only at reception zone. they promised to fix it, but they never did.  
 It is actually very close to the center and to the beach. Nice view from the room that looks to the ocean. Nice people at the reception

We only ended up here late in the day because our driver could not locate the Hotel Punta del Diablo which was advertised on TripAdvisor (with a photo). 
$110US for a tired, dirty room with a shocking bed and dysfunctional furniture and wifi speaks volumes for the poor value for money this place offers. Room full of mosquito's and the remnants of many of them squashed on the walls and ceiling. In hindsight, we should have walked out but the crowded nature of the town suggested little other options were available.
Worst breakfast we have seen in all of Chile, Argentina and Uruguay in our trip so far. Do it yourself toast, butter, jam and coffee. Thats it! Seems ludicrous to put a sign up advising breakfast between 9 and 11 when thats all the effort that is put into it.
Only positive was that Paula behind the front desk is multilingual, helpful and friendly

I have the dubious honour of being the first to review this hostal and I'm sorry I don't have much positive news for you. I think it's important to get it listed here however to warn others.

We drove around Punta del Diablo looking for a hotel as there weren't many listed on the internet. From the outside, this hotel looks lovely with its thatched roofing and its close proximity to the ocean made it a likely prospect. The multi-lingual German owner was an added bonus. 

He took us to our room but found the bed unmade and then decided upon another. From the doorway, this room looked reasonable and we could see a door leading out onto a small patio with ocean views. It was clear that the furniture was cheap, old and in need of replacement with old-fashioned bedding but we thought it would suit our purpose. The rooms are situated around a central courtyard which is peaceful but with run-down outdoor furnishings.

My husband went to check in while I ventured into the room. We should have walked away there and then. The room was utterly filthy. First I had to use the whole toilet roll to clean off all the surfaces which were thick with grime before we could put down our belongings. I noticed the floor was dirty with lots of dead insects. The luke warm shower was permanently running (not dripping, running) and there was dirty cling wrap in place of window glazing in the bathroom. There was hair in the sink. The towels were threadbare. Electrical fittings were hanging dangerously from the walls. The doors to the patio were almost rotted away and didn't close properly. You had to move a large rock to prop it open. There was no outdoor chair on the patio, we had to pinch one from a neighbouring room.

It was getting a bit late to look for somewhere else and it's always a bit awkward to leave once you've put all your gear in the room so we decided to tough it out. We weren't shown any of the communal areas but the web site which I've only just discovered shows all kinds of areas including a bar, games room and kitchen. It also shows a gazebo at the pool but there is no shade at all, nor any pool seating. It didn't look particularly clean.

The shower never got hot, despite assurances that there was hot water. We had to wrap the shower curtain around the shower head and place the towel under the flow to try and muffle the noise all night. 

The owner and his Uruguayan wife live in Montevideo and come down to open this hotel for the short season. They said that they had just arrived and my guess is that they hadn't bothered to clean the rooms from 10 months of sitting empty. We must have been the first to use the room for the season. This wasn't just a bit of surface dust, it was really grimy.

In the morning, we looked for breakfast around 8am and the wife told us the bread wasn't available and to come back at 8.30am. The breakfast was the most meagre of all the hotels we'd stayed in around Uy and the offerings of the poorest quality. As we hadn't been shown a dining area, we sat at a table outside to have a bit of bread and coffee. The wife had the cheek to come outside and ask us to bring our dirty dishes in to the kitchen when we were finished! With just 3 guests, you'd think she could manage that.

A small bonus was an interesting & friendly fellow guest to chat to at breakfast but I couldn't wait to pack up and get out of there. We probably would have spent a few days in Diablo if we'd had a clean place to stay but this place just put the damper on our stay and we decided to move on.

When we paid, the wife just took our money, didn't even say thank you. I think it's a real nerve to charge US$60 for something of this standard. This was just before the season kicked off so goodness knows what they charge in January and February. This is a cash cow - they show up, take your money and put nothing back into the hotel. Not recommended at all.
