I hope that our experience was just bad luck as the house is nice, rooms decent, location good, parking easy...but we had a terrible start that is hard to look beyond. 

We arrived a day later than we had originally planned to be sure my daughter was well clear of COVID and wanted to be very safe. We had agreed this with the owner via bookings.com and all was fine. Until, on arrival, we texted to ask for the WiFi code.

The owner called immediately and said "what are you doing there, you have cancelled and I have re-let the rooms and the new guests are coming tomorrow?!"

Of course we hadn't cancelled (we were there!) but, asking for help, were told "as far as I am concerned you have no booking now. It is my birthday, I want to have drinks with friends and 12 hours off so you can sort this mess out yourselves."

And that was that. No help. No support. 3 gobsmacked and upset children (not mention me and the wife!). Bear in mind all we had  done is pay in full, arrive as planned and agreed and ask for a wifi code! Had we not have done the latter some poor folk would have arrived the next day with people already in rooms they thought they had legitimately booked. 

Having been all but hung up on we tried to sort it out ourselves.  3 hours on hold and on calls with booking.com later they told us what we knew...they had to get in touch with the owner, could see a mistake had been made and would sort it out. 

I have never been in this situation before, it was a terrible start to a much needed break. 

We didn't have a few bits in the room (pillow cases on some pillows, soap/shower gel, bin bags in bins, large towels (plenty of small hand towels) but this was all remedied by the lovely Willow. 

A real shame as everything else seemed as we expected and we love the IoW. This was a great base for exploring. 

But, sadly, the one thing we cannot forget is how we were treated by the same person we had been in contact with about arriving a day late. We felt unwelcome and were later made to feel guilty for the other people that had booked our rooms. 

Shocking start to a summer break

I booked at Clarence house this year for Mrs Davies & I on our wedding anniversary, it's been a long lockdown here in Wales.
We like Shanklin but this place was a new location for us but from the start and our first communication with Ros we were made to feel like very welcome old friends.
Parking is plentiful on the road outside Clarence House so no issues there, we parked up, entered the gate code and made our way to The Cottage at Clarence House.
First impressions? Location is fantastic for Mrs Davies and I, we tend to do a lot of walking and the coastal path is just across the road.
The accommodation is very clean and well equipped with everything you need for a few days self catering, a nice bonus was the supply of half a dozen free range eggs (very nice they were too).
The bathroom housed one of the best showers I've ever taken, hot and almost powerful enough to pin you to the door. The heated towel rail is a nice touch, it's good to have a warm towel to wrap yourself in after your shower.
The lounge/diner has a breakfast bar and all the necessary kitchen equipment, a tv and a bed settee, nice for relaxing.
The bedroom, comfortable, and again very clean, with crisp white bedding, very nice.
The bedroom has French doors at the end which leads to a decked area that's exclusively for the use of the cottage, folding chairs and a table here in a very quiet, peaceful garden completed the scene.
It's a shame that we didn't get to meet Ros personally (strange times we're living in) but we'll be back soon and already looking forward to it.

Wedding anniversary getaway

We stayed in a lovely apartment in Clarence House, beautiful view of gardens , apartment spotlessly clean , & comfortable, lovely welcome basket , owner Ros, lovely lady , friendly & helpful , we had a fabulous stay & definitely recommend

Beautiful

If you are looking for a warm, family orientated get away then this is the place for you. We were greeted by the owner, Sian (she seemed very familiar) and family, including the dog, and were immediately given a guided tour while the kettle boiled and lunch was prepared.Our room, with en-suite bathroom, was spacious and very comfortable (thanks Dylan and Gareth!). Breakfast was prepared and served in bed most mornings by our own personal breakfast chef Rhiannon-delicious!- with the evening meals (all vegetarian and expertly prepared by our host, Sian) taking on a different theme every night (Mexican, Italian, traditional roast etc) and accompanied by cocktails, fizz, all prepared and served by our charming bartender, Dylan. Musical entertainment was laid on one night with guests, hosts and friends joining in the fun- loved your rendition of Chop Sticks Tegan! If there was a lull in the conversation Rhys was there to fill the gaps with cheeky banter. No detail was overlooked, from the host's dog, Django providing a doggy fix with tummy tickles, to Trevor who was ready with the gaffer tape to fix our suitcase at the end of our stay. All in all a much needed break with a family who welcomed and included us as one of theirs. Thank you all! XXX

Wonderful family holiday!

Really enjoyed our stay here, we have visited the island a lot of the past few years and this is certainly one of the nicest b&bs in shanklin.  Our room was spacious, light and clean with a comfy bed. The bathroom was with a shower but again a decent size and clean. Location very good just a short walk from the centre and to the beaches. The owners were very welcoming and helpful and breakfast was of good quality with loveliest homemade jam. We would return for our next on the island.

One of the nicest b&bs

We recently stayed at this B&B for 2 nights in November 2016.  Parking was fine and the premises has an older charm to it.  The rooms were clean, no refridgerator.  Breakfast was very well done, with many options available.  The house is also very close to the beach.  The owners were quite polite and friendly.  When comparing this B&B to others, a slight let down here was the fact that guests were told they had to vacate the house between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. for cleaning.  Also, it was made quite clear that take away food and alcohol were not permitted to be consumed in the room due to insurance.  Aside from these 2 points, the room & hosts were fine.

Review of Clarence House B&B Isle of Wight

Took a coach to the Island for the Beer and Buses weekend, me and my partner chose to stay here.
We were a little late arriving due to unforeseen circumstances but throughout the stay our hosts were extremely friendly and welcoming amd even paid a visit to the classic bus event we were attending. Breakfast was nicely prepared and presented and tasted excellent. Room was comfy and clean and had everything required.
I will certainly recommend this B&B to my passengers on my next visit to IOW Beer & Buses and I would definitely book again.

Lovely stay with lovely hosts

What a lovely place to stay for our 1st visit to the Island, rooms small but clean, hosts Graham and Margi so helpful with advice about where to go even gave us a map of the Island, and the breakfast was absolutely amazing every morning, would definitely recommend
