A lovely hotel: friendly and helpful staff; clean and comfortable; great breakfast; sea view from the front of the hotel and its garden; very close to Shanklin Chine. I would say the hotel was a highlight of our short holiday on the Isle of Wight

Lovely hotel with sea views

The Clifton is a home from home. It provides everything you need for a loverly get away. We stayed in a Bay room with lovely sea views, and woke up to the sun rising over the English Channel each morning. We were very impressed with the excellent breakfast provided, and usually partook of a pot of tea in the afternoon in the sunny conservatory, We also enjoyed the company of the excellent barman when having a drink in the evening. He was a mine of information on the island and itshistory.

A lovely place to stay

The staff are friendly and helpful. The sea view from our balcony was soo relaxing. The room had unexpected extras, tea and coffee station, coffee pods or sachets  fridge stocked with wine, water and milk for tea, hairdryer, dressing gowns, good amount of hangers in the wardrobe plus iron and ironing board.
Their food is excellent.
Overall an excellent place to stay.

Lots of unexpected extras

My partner and I have just returned from a fabulous Easter weekend stay at the Clifton.
I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone. 
All the staff were very friendly, polite and you could tell took pride in their jobs.
The breakfast selection was great and even served cream to go with the porridge. Fried bread, black pudding and beans were also a great addition, upon request. 
The rooms were super clean, warm and had everything you needed. The selection of beverages and biscuits in the room were extensive, even supplying hot chocolate and a bottle of water.
Even though we had a standard double, we still had a side view of the sea and lots of natural light. 
The location was great and very quite at night.
The ferry inclusive package which the hotel offers really made a difference to us choosing the hotel.
All in all a fantastic hotel and one which we hope to return to one day.

Great Hotel

We found The Clifton Hotel to be very pleasant - it sat on the top of the cliff looking out to sea and their garden was superb, with lots of unusual scrubs etc.  The hotel itself was very light and airy (loads of needle-point cushions all beautifully done by the owners mother) and the bedroom was nicely decorated, clean and had everything you require in it.  Food was good with an excellent breakfast, served in the garden room and we, also, had an excellent cream tea.  The location was great as it was only a 5 minute walk away to the High Street/Village where there were some good restaurants.  The beach can be accessed from the hotel, but we drove down there to have a look as the weather was very rough.  All the staff were friendly and helpful.

A very pleasant stay

A last-minute getaway for my birthday and it didn't disappoint. A friendly and helpful welcome from Laina and Dennis awaits you. The rooms are immaculate, the bed is comfy, and we were lucky enough to have a bay room that looks right out over, well, the bay. The breakfast is excellent, tasty, well cooked, a good variety (including fried bread!!), and it really sets you up for a day of exploring. Our only downside is that we only got to stay two nights and wish it could be longer. We will certainly be returning and look forward to staying for longer next time. Thank you to all the team, Darren and Gill.

Last minute birthday getaway.

Everyone was very helpful at all times.

Ample plugs in the room.  There were a couple of USB sockets as well - always useful.  We took a sea view room and it was worth it for the stunning view.  There were binoculars in the room which was a nice touch.  We did use them to check out the boats at sea.  The shower was a bit lame but it's an old building and so what did I expect?

The special for breakfast was a better choice than the full English.  I really liked it.

There's no draft ale at the bar but as I never saw anyone there that's not surprising!

Great location - apart from the view, it's a short walk to the beach and a short walk into town.

Tip - get a sea view.

There's nothing to complain about at The Clifton. From check-in ti check out the process went smoothly and the staff were friendly and polite. A special mention to the young lady who was on evening duty manning the reception, cafe and bar all on her own. She was busy but did it all with a smile.
We had a sea view balcony room on the first floor which gave great views, and it was nice to sit at the open doors when the weather wasn't so good. We had a fabulous view of a thunderstorm one evening. The room, like everywhere else, was spotlessly clean and we found it very comfortable. The best and biggest bath towels I have ever had in a hotel were a real treat.
There was a varied choice for breakfast, and it was all cooked to perfection. Fabulous poached eggs. There is no restaurant for evening meals as such, but the cafe serves basket meals and sandwiches which suited us for a couple of nights.
If coming to this area again we wouldn't hesitate to stay at The Clifton. Thank you to you all for doing such a great job.


Lovely accommodation

We've been going to the Isle of Wight for many years but this was our  first stay at The Clifton. The location was brilliant, the hotel was very comfortable with plenty of places to sit and enjoy the views both in the hotel and the garden.

Any stay is largely judged as successful by two criteria, the staff and the accommodation  and all the staff we met were friendly and helpful  with nothing being too much trouble for them to make your stay go well.

Regarding the accommodation our room was a deluxe double and was both large and en suite. It was comfortable and contained everything you could want with a mini fridge, a coffee machine and tea making facilities. Another family member had a standard double which was equally comfortable if not quite as luxurious

We certainly hope to return to The Clifton in the future.



Enjoyable, relaxing holiday

Staff were so pleasant and helpful, especially the young lady who helped us contact the AA when we had a problem with our car.
Food was excellent, 
Bed very comfortable, perhaps rest of room furniture could be replaced. 
The only real problem that I had was the stairs, we were on the top floor,
I realize that it would be very difficult to install a lift in that lovely old building 
Overall a very pleasant stay
