My Lovely Lady and I had the immense good fortune of staying here for the night of 23rd July!! A fantasticly lovely house matched only by the warmness of the welcome by the lovely proprietors , Ron and Gay. Our room was tasteful, well appointed with tea and coffee facilities, spotless with a high quality, well designed bathroom. An attractive sash window gives a beautiful view of the well established gardens which after we had returned from an evening out, we visited via the well stocked, wood panelled bar that offers any alcohol you desire in return for honesty! We wandered in the moonlight through the lovely flora and sat in the gazebo to await the thunderstorms which on arrival encouraged us to watch from our room! A terrible night's sleep followed but that was solely due to heat and thunder, however this certainly was not the fault of our hosts and indeed the bed was very comfortable! Breakfast the next morning was all freshly prepared local produce that was second to none, cooked and served by Ron and was indeed faultless. We managed to fit in a walk around the grounds in the warm morning sunshine and it did not disappoint!! Ron gave us a very warm send off and his company was an absolute pleasure! We really hope we get the opportunity to return and advise anyone else to visit this lovely couple while you still can, you will not be disappointed!!!

Excellent b and b. Nice hosts, clean and relaxing. so good in on my third visit as work in the area and drive the extra mile. Nice restaurants in the area too. Ron and gay are very helpful. Breakfast is very good and available at a time that suits you

Stayed here to watch our son in the Ironman. Couldn’t have wanted more, great hosts, georgeous house, lovely clean room, superb breakfast. Very helpful in sorting out directions and road closures for us. Would recommend. Great stay, thank you.

Great stay

Stayed while at Staffordshire County Show, was made very welcome, clean rooms, excellent breakfast served early, Honesty bar a lovely surprise.
Beautiful garden and grounds.
We will return when in the area and recommend to friends.

Great place to stay we will be back

Me and my business partner stayed there for a week on a business trip. I fist stayed in the summer room. The room was spotless and very comfortable. It what I really need after a long day with work. 
Breakfast was very good and the service was excellent. Nothing to complain. I think it's very good value for money and definitely will be back there again if in the area.

A very pleasant week long at Colton House

This house has plenty of history and also coveted awards as a Bed and Breakfast.  Tripadvisor suggests this is a 5 star hotel.  It isn't, its a 5 star Bed and Breakfast, big difference. Tripadvisor suggests this place has a swimming pool and spa, it dosn't.  Someone gives Tripadvisor this information, it doesn't just make it up. I had Columbine Room, number 12 on the top floor  (3 stories up and no lift).  This is a small room, where the double bed takes up almost the whole width, you have to climb across the bed to get to the window.  The bathroom is small but well fitted but the toilet seat is loose and the taps and sink are positioned so you can't wash your hands in running water. There is a complete lack of sound proofing, I could hear evey word of a telephone conversation a person in the next room was having, the noise in the late evening certainly affected my sleep.  When I told the owner this, he explained that he had the walls lined with rubber in order to solve this problem, it hadn't solved the problem.  The Wifi was not working, owner explained he was waiting for a new router.
Having said the negatives, the owner is a lovely man, caring, helpful and I'm sure his breakfasts are very nice, but i don't have cooked breakfasts so I can't comment.  The room seemed cllean. Some people would love to stay here, with its history, the older look and feel of the place, but I have to say, with hindisght, I would not have stayed here, and whilst the comments I have made and the rating given, its is only fair that customers are given a fair assessment.
I walked for 30 mins towards Rugeley and found a restauarnt called the Yorkshireman, just reopened after refurbishment, really nice food at resonable prices.
