I booked this for work as it was close to where I was based. It’s a very eccentric looking place, and family run. 

My room was large and very cleaned and attended to every day which was a nice touch.

Reading other reviews, yes there are rules the place has in place but these are all clearly communicated ahead of arrival.

A nice place

So made a booking on booking.Com we booked two nights arriving Friday leaving Sunday, as we had a emergency on the way to the property we had as going to arrive later than 8pm, I called the host to explain we are late and if we could check in after 8:30 are arrival was 8:35pm we was told in no uncertain terms, “NO, you have lost your booking as your late we are closed now, it’s very rude of you to not have called earlier you will not be let in tonight and your booking has been cancelled” I explained calmly we have had a emergency on the 3hour 30 drive up and we are only 30mins late can he make a exception for us, again was very rudely told “No, you should have called to let us no” (exactly what I was doing at this point) He went on to explain how bad of a person I was to make him wait in all day and not turn up on time! Still remaining calm as he was raising his voice to me many times on the phone I said, okay we have lost tonight we will have to stay in my car, I asked what time he opens in the morning so we could use our room we have paid for and stay the second night as if nothing has happened and again was told very rudely “NO” He went on to say “ how can you be so dumb to think you can still have the booking after being a no show, you e lost your money tough.” I was absolutely flabbergasted about the way he spoke to me, being a guest house usually more expensive than a premier inn hotel he is very brave to be treating paying customers the way he does. Completely unprofessional and quite frankly a nasty person. He then went on to try to make me look like the bad guy by emailing booking.Com (of which I am very high genius level and never had a problem in 6 years with any hosts) to say I’ve been abusive to him! Needles to say I’ve made a very big complaint to booking about this host and property, and may even be taking this legally further. This property is just not worth the trouble or price. This guy knew he had left two people stranded with no place to stay for two nights in cold wet wether is just very very un kind, very unreasonable for a guest house owner, not very holiday spirited! AVOID AVOID AVOID.

We stayed there for 6 nights and it was absolutely perfect! The owner is really welcoming and goes above and beyond to make sure you have a pleasant stay.
Breakfast was freshly cooked and well presented. The room we stayed in was clean and spacious.
We will be back.

Nicest place in Retford

Gorgous guest house, really warm and welcoming. The owner chris is amazing, felt really welcome. The rooms are a good size with really compfy beds. Cooked breakfast was really good. Would definitely stay here again in the future.

Stayed 2 nights, host genuinely happy and inviting. I stayed in the family room, it was clean and cosy much more personal than a hotel room, yes it was old fashioned but that's what I loved about it, the bed was that compy I didn't want to get out haha.  If I'm ever up that way again I will definately be booking here again. 👍😊😊😊😊

Lovely find. 

I found this gem, my usual stop over place changed hands for the worse, and it really is as advertised, home from home.  There are plenty of parking spaces and free wifi, sorted!  Chris, the proprietor, is friendly and attentive, the house is decorated in a mix of old English and retro, very cosy and welcoming.  My room (#4) was clean, comfortable and joy of joys it had a shower stall, I cannot use a bath.  The only negative was finding a plug socket to charge my phone, it was behind the hospitality chest of drawers, nowhere near the bed. Breakfast was freshly cooked to order, just like home.  There is a pub, petrol garage and a Chinese restaurant within walking distance.  What more could one want?

What a gem - a wonderful find

I stayed here for a short time while sorting out accomodation for a new job. The family here were very friendly and accommodating and were great to talk to. The room I originally stayed in was a budget one, but later in the week I changed to a larger room for a little extra which had it's own en-suite. The room had a TV, but I was working on my laptop most of the time I was there. The place was nice and clean, the bed was comfortable and I slept like a baby. Great if youre passing through :)
