booked a table for 7.30pm saturday 4/7/2021.arrived 7.05.was taken to table ordered drinks (ORANGE AND LEMONADE FOR MYSELF.WAS DRIVING.SPARKLING WATER FOR WIFE.).FINEALLY got menu at 7.50pm.told us they were running late because some people had turned up late for there booking time.not my fault or problem.i was on time.no-one else in the restaurant part.came took our order at 8.05.not the best of menus for a restaurant.suppose to be fine dining.came back 10 mins later only had 2 of the steak and ale pies and were doing them for the ones who were late.no appologies.ask for the drinks bill 2 orange and lemonades and 2 sparkling waters..£9.50.this used to be a fantastic place to have that special meal.not anymore just your standard pub food now.stay well clear of the place.rip off

First visit since reopening. Amazing refurbishment, place looks clean, fresh and welcoming. Well done!

Had Sunday lunch and have to say it’s possibly the best one we’ve had anywhere. Beef and lamb stunning as well as portion size excellent.

Fabulous

Having been to the George before and having had really nice food, it was a shame when we were told that we couldn’t have the normal menu sat outside and had to have the outdoors menu but then another table next to us was allowed to order food from the main inside menu. This made us feel like outsiders and not as welcomed as we have been before. There was a really nice staff member, but there were a few who did not interact with us like before and were not up to the usual standard I have experienced in the past.

Nice food but average hospitality.

From the moment I rang and asked if it was ok to park for the night in our Motorhome things were first class!!
The bar has been recently refurbished to a very high standard.
They have 700 whiskey bottles on display, sorry 699 now...
The food was out of this world, it was quite delightful to have food that really wasn’t ‘ping’ food, it was gorgeous!!
The owner has done really well and it was great to speak to him.

Motorhome stop.

I am a very fussy eater but the Sunday lunch here is absolutely amazing.    I had the lamb and it was cooked to perfection as was the veg.   And the  gravy.....  O,M,G.  I could drink it by the pint.       DEFINITELY worth a visit.

Sunday lunch

7 adults plus 1 toddler and 1 baby for Sunday lunch last weekend. 2 courses with huge portions for mains plus drinks. Under £200 even with the tip. Food was very good and service was great. Will definitely be back

Very good Sunday lunch

Passing the George on the way to Lincoln today. Decided to call in for lunch with my daughter.
Old guy in front of us was being served. The chap serving him totally ignored us. A lady also came behind the bar, totally ignored us. Not a hello or be with you in a few minutes.  After waiting for about 10 minutes we walked out.

Lost the plot

Called in on Friday evening coming home from long trip. Time was getting on so thought try somewhere different. Was not disappointed. The steak grill  was like a large plater. The steak was cooked exactly as requested, the chips were to die for. Proper thick hand and home cut chips and cooked how chips should be cooked. No grease on them, just soft and well cooked. Fresh salad also served with a beautifully cooked large mushroom. Nice friendly staff and good service. Have no doubts we will be back here for food. Also one of the largest collection of Whisky's on show. Hundreds of bottles. Well Recommended.

Excellent Meal

Stayed overnight with friends and family, my parents in the hotel, the rooms are in a separate building,on the pub premises but very private and peaceful. The rooms though not modern are clean and comfortable.
I stayed in my campervan in the carpark. We had an evening meal, which was freshly cooked and plentiful. We also had breakfast the following morning which was also excellent using local produce.
The owners are obviously devoted to this business and although it will take time for them to complete the revival of this grand old pub. Everything is very clean. We were made to feel very welcome and will be visiting again and again.
Dogs are also very welcome.

New management

We stopped here for a quick break on a drive from Yorkshire to Norfolk. We ordered coffee and baguettes. We were impressed by the huge number of malt whiskeys on display and had a nice chat with the barman, who told us there were 760,
However we waited and we waited for our baguettes which took over 50 minutes to arrive! Several other people were also getting annoyed at the time taken to be served. When the lady who ordered after us asked about the delay, she was told it was because there was a baby shower and the kitchen were busy making the sandwiches etc for that event. Surely the event must have been booked - so why wait until the busy lunchtime session to make the food for a planned event?
I must say, the once the baguettes were delivered, they were fresh and tasty.
