A gem of a find. Fantastic value and real home cooked food

Only thing wrong was no Guinness

As we perused the menu with our drinks, we were brought olives and Cornfield's superb cheese straws (light, flaky and intensely cheesey). A very good start. My soup's three main ingredients merged perfectly and my guest's mouth-watering baked camembert was beautifully light, with a crispy crust. Our sliced duck and halibut & prawn thermidor were equally delicious, as was Cornfield's famed Dauphinoise potatoes. Carrots, cauliflower and broccoli were on the soft side of al dente, exactly how I like them. Desserts of creme brulee and chocolate with raspberries were light and a perfect end to the meal.
I have eaten there many times and Cornfields has never failed to provide a wonderful dining experience in a lovely timbered tavern setting. This truly is one of Bedfordshire's outstanding restaurants.

Very cosy place. Old house very good atmosphere. Room located in a remote building under the trees. Countryside ambiance. Very good restaurant.

Not a common place

Excellent Service, Excelllent Breakfast. On my first visit I was warmly received one evening when I booked last minute and will stay again. Excellent en suite bathroom and great hot rain shower.

Beautiful laid back setting among the fields

My favourite restaurant in Bedfordshire just never lets me down. We rated our starters as 10/10 and 10/10, absolutely delicious. Then the same with our main courses: 10/10 and 10/10 again, with the ingredients complementing each other perfectly and the sauces mouth-watering; and the accompanying Dauphinoise potatoes were exquisite too. Desserts were good: 9/10 and 9/10. Lovely old tavern surroundings, tactful host and friendly, helpful waitress. Very very close to perfection.

Fantastic, as always

I loved the high ceilings and exposed beam look in the room.  The bed was huuuuuuge  (in the Bay room) and the decor in each room was individual (not a copy and paste job).

Had a great nights sleep and woke up to stunning countryside views.

The food was spot on, cooked well and tasted great.

Definitely recommend staying here

Great location, amazing rooms

Gorgeous old cottage (I think over 500 years old), low ceilings, cozy fireplace in the bar area and a warm reception. The food was so fresh and tasty. Overall this is a stunning spot for anyone in the Bedfordshire area or passing through. Highly recommend!

Gem in Bedfordshire Countryside

Firstly I must say the breakfast was excellent.......
However the room we had was extremely tired and in need of some serious tlc.
The door to the room opens directly on a courtyard/garden area which was in great need of tidying up - last weeks/months or whenever bbq still in evidence. The carpet in the room was grubby and a mat by the dressing table dirty. No drawer space provided for clothes apart from a wardrobe with just 1 drawer.
The bathroom door does not fit and would not close. window sills were unfinished with bare screw heads showing, plaster board fixing in the ceiling had popped, woodwork round the windows was unfinished and rotting, looking from outside roof tiles were missing and the whole area by the rooms was very dark and dank.......
Clean towels and a comfy bed do not make this worth £150 per night - never again, won't be back.

Tired

My wife and myself stayed here for a weekend whilst visiting family nearby. Be prepared that it is located in a remote location, there is not much nearby, other pubs and the like. However, the rooms are tastefully decorated and furnished, though the walls are a little thin, if you catch my drift. The restaurant serves excellent fare and there is a wide choice on the menu. Nice and cosy bar area to relax in.Prices are a little on the high side, but hey ho. An enjoyable and comfortable stay.
