My fiancé and I had a wonderful stay in the secluded woodland retreat surrounded by the friendly chickens! The Shepherds Hut had everything we needed and was very cosy and clean! The setting was spectacular and felt very private. We saw lots of red squirrels and a wide range of birds. Zena and Nick were really helpful and friendly and made our stay great. Would highly recommend and look forward to returning in the future! 

Shepherd’s Hut Retreat 

My wife and I booked Thorney Mire for a long weekend treat in the Dales. We arrived in the dark, but were warmly welcome by the host Nick and shown to our room. The Garden Room was spacious, tasteful, immaculately clean and very comfortable. There were some nice touches, such as the chocolates with a hand written note and fresh fruit, along with the standard tea and coffee. The Garden Room also has a private garden, though at this time of year too cold to take advantage of.

The view from the garden was lovely and as the B&B has a private woodland, the autumnal colours in the bright morning light were glorious. We didn't see any of the elusive red squirrels though! Breakfast was delicious, home made, and with some thoughtful vegetarian and vegan options.

We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and have made a promise to return in the summer to enjoy the private garden, woods, and excellent hospitality.

Thorney mire is a Great place to stay lovely
 and clean and great breakfast a short drive into Hawes and lovely pubs and restaurants definitely recommended a visit to the cheese factory and visiting the waterfalls is a must

Review

Having stayed here in September 2018, as soon as we decided to have another holiday in the Dales we knew that we would wish to stay here again having been so impressed last time. We were not disappointed. This really is everything you would wish a B&B to be. We had pre booked an evening meal for our first night and enjoyed it so much that we requested one for our last night too. Zena and Nick are first class hosts. Excellent breakfast with some wonderful specials available. We look forward to our next stay here and exploring more of the Dales.

We were lucky enough to stay here 14 years ago. I am pleased to report it is still as good as we remembered it. Nick and Zena do an amazing job, the welcome tray of tea and cakes and chocolates on the room was a lovely touch. The rooms are spacious and comfortable and fitted to a high standard. The home cooked breakfast was delicious. I can’t recommend this place enough.

Wonderful 

As soon as you step into Thorney Mire Barn it feels warm and homely. This is our 3rd visit simply because everything we want and expect from our holiday is right here. There are so many personal touches , even bubble bath in the bathroom so you can  relax in the bath. Thank you once again Zena and Nick, we are fully recharged until the next time. 😊😊

“Our 3rd Visit”

We had an amazing 4 night stay at this lovely bed and breakfast. Hosts were very welcoming. The room was spotless with lots of little extras, fruit, chocolates, fridge with bottled water and cordial.
Breakfast was excellent with a wide choice. 
We also had an evening meal which is cooked by the owners. It had to be booked in advance and was served in the dining room. Food and service once again excellent. 
A wonderful stay and we look forward to a return stay.

Amazing!

Really enjoyed staying here for a few nights holiday, with my friend from NZ. Spacious twin room on ground floor, ideal for our needs. Excellent location for exploring the Dales. Made all the better by the facilities, local food (some homegrown) and the hosts Zena and Nick. They really made our holiday as were so hospitable and accommodating for our needs. Enjoyed excellent evening meals prepared by them and got to some fantastic locations based on their local knowledge. Made a very special holiday so much better. I would highly recommend a stay here. Looking forward to revisiting soon.

A lovely stay!

The most delightful, quiet, warm, clean and very friendly B&B in gorgeous countryside surrounded by beautiful woodland, rich bird life, sheep, squirrels, rabbits....What more could one ask, for a week-end in Wensleydale?
The proprietors, Zena and Nick couldn’t have been more helpful, nothing was too much trouble, the breakfasts were superb and the rooms contained every necessity and luxury - worthy of a 5-star hotel.
We will certainly return and recommend.

The best of its kind!

I didn’t want to write a fantastic review because I don’t want everyone to find out about this amazing place!
The shepherd’s hut is as near to perfection as possible. Situated in woodland with just the birds, squirrels and stream for company, you are a million miles away from the rat race.
The hut has everything you could possibly need for a relaxing stay. Zena is a first class just and nothing is too much trouble! The wonderful little touches and attention to detail are great.
I can’t recommend Thorneymire enough. ( Just don’t all dash to book, I want to go again!)
