To be honest I am looking to get a full refund on my stay here as we were treated abysmally on check in by being taken into a dirty dingy room with chocolate wrappers all over the floor and asked why we wanted to stay there when we live in Newport. We were basically interrogated, told the police were involved as they didn’t like people from a home town staying in a hotel close by (they must have a hotline to the reservations obviously) and made to feel extremely uncomfortable, worst of all I was asked if I wanted to stay there because I was a domestic abusive victim, all whilst my partner was sat next to me, to then be told ‘because we don’t want an ex boyfriend coming and smashing the place up, it’s happened before...’ so zero welfare for abusive victims then... 
Also seriously, you ask people such things?! How disrespectful.
We just wanted a night away to ourselves so this was shocking beyond!! 
After we were reluctantly given our key we then got told our room wasn’t ready as it was being cleaned so we had to take our bags back with us, even though check in was supposed to be for three. 
Later when we arrived the place was in complete darkness, we had to show ourselves to the room and on entry the tiny room hadn’t been cleaned properly, the floor was disgusting, there were dirty sheets, the interior was old, dated and ruined and worst of all there was no heating! All in a room that had single pane glass so it got cold very fast! We tried to use the heater the room had supplied which didn’t work and instead made a sound like an airplane about to take off with the settings dial swinging uselessly. Due to this we didn’t actually sleep a wink, felt uncomfortable and had the worst hospitality experience of our lives. 
When we left the next day once again the place was in complete darkness with no staff so I couldn’t make a complaint and we left.
Disgusted isn’t the word. I have photos and videos of issues as it was a joke.

Was like a horror movie...

Due to a covid scare my brother managed to book my accommodation here. 
A bed for the night before a 2 hr trip back home. 
We were asked to make our way to the guesthouse where a member of staff would meet us. My brother took time off work to get me booked in. (We thought it would take minutes ....... how wrong we were) 
After several phonecalls we were told that someone was on their way. 1/2 hr later after another call we were told that they were just leaving. Another half hour goes by and still no one. 
My brother had to get back to work so we left. We asked for the key to be dropped off to his work. It was over another hour that someone showed up. 

On entering the guesthouse I was appalled. 

Rubbish in the so called lounge, private letters to the owner, on the floor and on the "welcome" table. 

There was damp all around, paint chips and holes in the wall. Furniture with the charity shop price tag still attached. 
All this before even getting to the stairs to get to the room. 

The room was a joke. It was dirty, the TV didn't work,  there wasn't even a bar of soap in the bathroom. 

Please.... for the love of God. Avoid this place. 

You have to wipe your feet on the way out, it is that bad. 

It was disgusting.

I should have risked catching covid 19 rather than what diseases I could have picked up there. 

What a joke.

Firstly the "Hotel" is at the top of a massive hill very far from all amenities, when you reach the building you are greeted with big black bolted doors with an a4 sheet of paper telling yoh to call reception, we booked earlier check in prior to our arrival and this was confirmed by the staff yet when we first arrived we called the staff and they said it didn't matter and our room wasn't clean yet at 12pm so we got lunch and waited until 4.30pm to come back. 

When we came back we had to ring again and we were told someone would come meet us to check us in, we waited 30 minutes for a woman in pyjamas to meet us she was very rude and we followed her to the kitchen as she said so we could get our keys and we had to wait 5 more minutes because she was smoking in the kitchen with kids running around she then threw the keys at me said the room we booked wasn't ready because someone slept in it so we got another and it's upstairs, she then just walked off and left us no hospitality at all.

When we got to the room itself it was freezing and disgusting everything was wet and the radiator did not work all walls were falling apart and there were wet patches on the bed and my bed was completely broken with no base, the curtains were full of mold and falling apart and one of the towel we were provided was wet with some sort of bodily fluid on them, the lamp was broken and pieces were falling off the wall, they gave us milk that expired in February and the smell was horrible, there was so much mold and damp that I have a bad cough now.

We couldn't stay in the room for any longer than an hour so we called them to check out, again no staff on site to help and the girl who answered was super rude and didn't offer any solution, we left and booked a different hotel and left the keys in the makeshift lobby and the girl called us back 40 minutes later to tell us nobody was there to check us out. 

We complained to booking.com and the hotel said they offered us a different room which they didn't and  claimed we didn't show up to check in but we have their check in sheet as proof.

Overall this was the worst travel experience I've ever had and I travel very often, please spend a bit more money for an actual hotel rather than this deathtrap. 

Tldr mold everywhere rude staff, don't book!

Worst experience ever

Was meant to stay there on a business trip. Upon entering the smell that was noticeable from the first step in, was horrific. A mix of old peoples home with a very bad food(old oil)But I thought I will give it a go, and see the rooms. My room on first impression was not great but after closer look I was petrified. Trash filled with bloody tissue and some antibiotics and bottle after alcohol. Horrible smell from the bathroom. And what looked a bullet hole in the window plus a hole in the bathroom doors that looks like somebody went with a screwdriver through it. I run away as quickly as possible and booked in Ibis budget hotel which is much better standard.

OMG avoid!!!

We wrote in our booking that we would arrive between 6pm and 7pm. When we arrive on site, no receptionnist, no manager in the hotel. We called around 5 times : a man answered then a woman. They answered they would come but no one came and after 25 minutes under a pouring rain we left and went for diner. We explained that on the phone a last time and we called again at 10pm asking if someone would be there to open and the owner or the manager or whosever was so insulting and rude on the phone, saying we were liars and did not come at the right time and he told us he did not want us in the hotel. So the access was denied, we had to sleep in sofa's friend in emergency and to book a new hotel for the day after. Of course the owner did not say anything about the reimbursement nor the compensation. A place to avoid.

A place to avoid !

A terrible place to stay. Upon arrive we had to wait over ten minutes for someone to open up & they were rude on the phone. Other guest were woken by a POLICE RAID at 6am &  they'd to wait in the icy hallway for over half an hr!! The power in my parent's room went out leaving them without light and heat all night. They phoned the manager (no-one stays on site overnight) who fobbed him off. Radiators were hanging off the wall, my shower hose was broken, then the water ran cold in mine and my parent's room. Carpets were ripped and dirty, lights were too dim and didn't work. Radiators were off so had to use portable heaters. All-in all very shady place, avoid at all costs!

Police raid! AVOID AVOID!

Worst experience ever. We were planning to come between 6 and 7pm. When we got there, no one was in the hotel. A number was written on the door. We called 5 times : a man answearing then a woman, music in the background. They said they would come. We waited 25 minutes under the rain and no one came. We then went for diner and called at 10pm asking if someone would be there to open and the owner was so rude saying we were lying and did not come at the right time and told us he did not want us in the hotel. Rude and we were in the street in the night without any accommodation.

Stayed here never again whilst it’s in this condition, fire alarms going off at 02.30 then again at 05.30 fire brigade and police ,manager said there’s a fire he had seen this no smoke nothing the fife brigade checked nothing so  alarm system is faulty  , leaking on the ceilings dirty curtains wires well they could cause an overload which could cause a fire , doors have holes in stair carpet needs refitting as it’s come away from its gripper , water damage ,damp this guest house is not fit for purpose the couple who have this only took it over a couple of days ago they have been left with a guesthouse that’s not like it’s prev good reviews or pictures I felt so sorry for them both they did say when the fire brigade came out the second time they would reimburse us all hopefully they keep their word and they can get this guest house up and running safe clean and with attention to detail.

Poor ,disrepair,health and safety issues

The Knoll guesthouse was absolutely without fail the worst accommodation I ever stayed at. The whole place smelled of damp and mold. My room was cold, the skylight leaked air, the radiator was non functioning, of the two lights one was broken, the toilet leaked, there were only two electrical outlets, side by side on the far side of the room, the door was so flimsy, a 5 year old could break it down. Do not stay here, stay anywhere else. I would rate it negative stars easily.

Not my worst enemy

Just returned from 2 night stay, awful place scruffy and smelly needs refurbishment , serious H&S issues with fire doors propped open. Booked year ago included breakfast didn't get any!!!!!! Photos on Booking.com are old and nothing like it is now
