Excellent choice and very good value for money.  We stayed here with friends after a family event (also held at Woodfield House which was very well organised by the hotel).  Both rooms were lovely, spacious and clean.  The hotel is very old and accordingly,  sympathetically decorated.  Easy access via a key box.  Parking is literally just across the road and not expensive.  Views of the castle while having a huge breakfast was included in the room rate.  My husband said the garden was lovely too.

Wonderful location, great room and fab breakfast. Very comfortable room. Breakfast cooked fresh to order, great service, and right next to the castle and river. I will definitely stay here again. Perfect for a short break.

We visited as a couple with a dog on 17/12/22. It was a simple self check-in with clear instruction via email prior to arrival. Upon entering the hotel, the feel is very traditional with some lovely touches throughout. There are signs of wear across the hotel, but that's to be expected in such an old building. The room itself was lovely, clean and spacious with a big four-post bed. Even mid-December, and during an energy crisis, the room was was very warm and cosy on entry.

The lovely lady working in the dining room and servicing the bedrooms is a credit to the hotel, she made a delicious full english and kindly gave our dog a sausage to enjoy.

Stayed here for 3 nights in one of their garden rooms as my friend had a dog. Lovely room clean  and spacious enough room for a dog bed. The dog could come into dining room whilst we had our breakfast which was a bonus. Good choice for breakfast and the lady waiting on us was very pleasant and nothing to much trouble.

Had a great stay, we booked 2 singles as that was what was left. One was the top room, loved the winding stairs. Such a fab building. Room was lovely with view of castle. Really comfy and modern.
Second room was outside uo some stairs, in need of decorating but was a double charged as a single maybe to make up for that.
Had 2 amazing windows with trees outside and sound of the water in fish pond gave it a lovely. 
Breakfast was in beautiful decor room and was wonderful service and food.
Loved it!!!!! Never stayed anywhere so unique before but will definitely book again - wonderful 
Also loved check in - a code is texted just before check in, you find your key on the table and it’s an adventure to find your room! Genious!

Woodfield House was an excellent jump off for Offas Dyke path.  The city bus  will take you to within 1/2 mile from the starting point.  "don't leave your trekking pole son the bus" We were fortunate enough to meet Erin at the Newport train station who help us get on the correct train and after arriving in Chepstow we were give a ride from her husband to the Woodfield House.  A great introduction to the incredibly friendly people of Wales  Woodfield is with in walking distance of the Castle and A great little pub Boat Inn

A room large enough for a game of cricket but being an ancient building  there is quite a slope towards the pavilion end. Lovely four poster bed, very comfortable and furnished with armchairs and storage.  Overlooking the castle. which is well worth a visit, the hotel is situated 2 minutes from the river and opposite a large car park. Still only £2.80p for 24 hours which is very reasonable by comparison to home. Plenty of local restaurants and public house so there is no shortage of places for an evening meal. Breakfast was good. Lots of choice and generous helpings. Would happily stay again. Thank you.

We stayed here just for a night as a quick anniversary get away.  The self-check in is a bit strange but actually works very well.  You receive a text message with the door code and then collect key from inside.  Beautiful quirky building with lovely garden which in warmer weather, I would have loved to enjoy.  We had room 8 which was up in the eaves, sloping ceilings, low beams and doors, full of character.  Lovely decor and tea/ coffee facilities. 

Breakfast is chargeable but resonable cost and has plenty of options and choice. Plenty of options in Cheptsow for eating from Wetherspoons, independent pubs, Greek and Italian.
Location is excellent, right opposite the castle and near the river (parking £4.80 for 24h). I wouldn't recommend staying here if you have mobility issues as its a hilly walk up to town and the property itself has lots of stairs.

I arrived at Woodfield House on Tuesday afternoon and was a little sceptical of self check in.
So easy and found my room "with a view" directly over to the castle.
I read a few negative comments about sloping floors and low ceilings and sure enough my room had both which only added to the charm.
This is a 17th century listed building what on earth do people expect?
Proprietor Mike was so welcoming as was Janice the housekeeper.
I went for a chill out break and just pottered around Chepstow.
The bar is no longer open at Woodfield however I sat in the beautiful garden with my own tipple and soon had a bucket of ice at my disposal.
I truly didn't want to leave this lovely establishment...
I will certainly return.
Places to avoid in my humble opinion "Stonehouse" restaurant ... Wetherspoons..

Places to eat the best bagel and glass of rioja ever Henry's.
Did like the boathouse in a beautiful spot if a little pricey
Definitely a good place to stay as a solo traveller and apparently Woodfield house is dog friendly too.
Perfect break....

Lovely place to stay.  Excellent room and good breakfast in the morning.  Comfy four poster bed (although the canopy makes it dark to read in bed), nice ensuite although there wasn't much power in the shower.

Jump off for Offa's Dyke Hike

Spacious room

The room was spacious, very clean and had everything I could have wanted.  It could do with a spot of maintenance but nothing too bad.  
The breakfast was amazing and was cooked and served by a lovely lady who couldn’t do enough for you. 
The location could not have been better, next to a convenient car park, near the town and an excellent pub.  But best of all, opposite the castle.  
I would happily stay here and again!


Great location and fantastic stay

I was told I would receive a door code via text on the morning of check-in and would find my room keys (we booked 3 rooms) awaiting collection once inside. I received the code bright and early and the keys were located as per communication. All the rooms we had were a good size, they have double beds, ensuite (Towels provided), a TV, Teas and coffees (with a kettle) and a hairdryer. 
At breakfast there is a selection of cereal, tea / coffee, orange juice, pastries, yoghurt, fruit and full English / vegetarian options - all of which were very nice!! 
The location is brilliant, opposite a car park and the castle! 30 seconds walk to a lovely pub, 5 minutes walk (if that) into town where you have pubs, restaurants, shops and a supermarket. We stayed 2 nights and went to the races which was a 30 minute walk (or 5 minute taxi ride). 
Would definitely stay again if we revisit Chepstow - good value for money.

Great location, town and stay!

Nice comfortable stay. The breakfast was lovely. The rooms are very clean and the bed is really comfortable. The bed linen is very nice . The old building is lovely. We stay in room 14 with a dog which is outside in the garden area. The whole experience of having the dog with us was great as they are really dog friendly unlike other establishments that advertise dog friendly who really aren't. The dog was allowed to come to breakfast with us. Parking ìs in a paid carpark across the road from the building and doesn't cost a lot with loads of spaces . The only downside is the room needs painting. It is very tired and marked. The ceiling in room 14 is not in a good state over the single bed. It looks like a leak from upstairs has occurred leaving it in a bad state. It has been boarded up and when you lie on the bed it's not the best of views. The ceiling is very marked and in a bad way. The room was a good size. A coat of paint to the whole room  and repairs to the ceiling would have scored a 5.
