I went here for a spa experience, an experience it was but a ghastly one.
We were given grey looking towels one of us had to have it replaced twice as was soiled.
The changing facilities are communal , shower coming away from the wall, uneven flooring, 2 lights not working in the outer area, ceiling water marked, generally unkept.
The pool had algae , the spa was cloudy, windows were not clean , I could go on and on.
Don’t waste your money , it’s dreadful and a disgrace that they have the nerve to charge good money for such a ghastly experience. I wonder if the owners will even bother to respond to this review, they don’t appear to care.

Ghastly

the cafe is well situated with great views from both the dining room and the outside terrace. parking is easy and a flat walk away from the cafe.  Shorna runs the cafe efficiently and it is bright and clean and not as dated as the spa.  the food I've eaten has been good quality and nicely served.   the warm cheese scones ( with or without cream cheese and pickle)  are delicious.  the hot chocolate even stripped of marshmallows and whipped cream is also delicious. coffee drinking friends are happy with the Braziers roast coffee. 
a lovely place to sit over lunch especially when warm enough to be outside.

Visited The.Cleve for the first time at the weekend and the afternoon tea did not disappoint. The room was spacious for 18 of us and we had exclusive use of it. 

The tea itself was delicious and plentiful. Sapna couldn’t do enough for us. She anticipated exactly what we needed and nothing was too much trouble. All dietaries were taken care of and there was plenty spare too. 

Zara and Freya (new to the team) were also great. 

The only tiny suggestion I’d make is that the plates to be cleared when we’d finished eating and whatever was left to be placed to one side, allowing guests to chat freely without a cake stand in the way but this is a minor detail. 

Didn’t see much of the rest of the building so cannot comment and we were only there for about four/five hours. We had a fab time. Thanks Sapna and team for looking after us so well. 

Hen afternoon tea was wonderful 

Me & my wife had the get muddy spa experience and soon realised that we had wasted our money.
 
The whole spa itself is grotty, dirty, run down and tired-looking. Each element of the spa (sauna, steam room, swimming pool, jacuzzi, treatment spa room) were really dirty and made us feel rather uncomfortable due to how unhygenic it looked. 

We were shown outdoor hot tub only to realise that all the cleaning equipment was dumped ontop of it and they had not even bothered to get it ready for us, so we avoided this. 

Within the spa there  was tape on the ceilng holding it together, the walls were falling apart, algae and mould in the cracks and tiles around most edges, foam  in the jacuzzi & unpleasant smell all around.
The spa is oddly laid out, runs down confusing corridors and up dirty concrete steps. Car per 

It did not feel relaxing one bit and made us feel uncomfortable and we wanted to leave as soon as possible.

The muddy experience was terrible. Again the treatment room was dirty, old and not pleasant to be in. The showers were cold which ruined the experience itself as we had to wash the mud off in cold water. 

The towels provided were smelly and old (frayed).
No private areas to change, theris e more of a communal changing  room with lots of people everywhere. Showers in changing rooms looked, old, dated and falling apart. 
Honestly a waste of money and felt more stressed after the experience. Would not recommend.

A Spa in name but nothing else, avoid & save your money

Disappointing at best.
I had visited The Cleve a few years ago with a group of friends for a spa day and it did not disappoint. So when it came to my best friends birthday this year I thought I would treat her to some relaxing time. Unfortunately it is nothing like it was. 
We drove up the drive to the parking area where there is no clear designated disabled parking. We parked and went to head in but there is no clear indication as to where the reception is. 
We found our way in, we checked in and we were asked if we’d like our cream tea before or after our spa afternoon. We asked for after, to then be told we would have to be up in the restaurant over an hour before our session ended as the restaurant would be closed before we finished our session. So we didn’t really have a choice but to have the cream tea first. We were served coffee in a stained cafetière and given one very small pot of milk between two of us. The scones were nice. 
We then went back to the desk as we were unsure of what to do to access the spa. We were then taken down to the spa facilities by a member of staff who didn’t  overly explain anything. 
We were given bags with bath robes and a single towel in each. The once white bath robes were no longer white but a dingy cream colour. Mine had holes all down the side and was missing a pocket. We were also given disposable slippers. 
I asked the member of staff if there was changing facilities for privacy to which she replied it was communal. She then proceeded to empty the laundry hamper that was over flowing right next to us. This made us feel rather uncomfortable.
Once she had left, my friend and I changed and headed to use the facilities. We stopped to use the w/c, we walked in on another lady as the lock on the door was broken. Embarrassing all round. 
The sauna smelt terrible and was very small, we opted not to use it. 
The outdoor jacuzzi was cold and you could feel grit in the bottom. When we turned the jets on there was visible scum on the top of the water. Disgusting.
We got lost trying to find the pool and steam room and slipped our way up tiled steps to get there. 
The shower outside the steam room has an uneven floor and is dirty. We went in the steam room where there is a household plastic basket screwed over the steamer. There is also mould growing in there and the seating is loose. An accident waiting to happen. 
The pool is very cold and there is a lot of dirt around the pool and what appeared to be green algae growing between tiles.
The indoor jacuzzi was nice other than having broken pieces around the edge. 
Minimal lounging facilities around the pool. The lounging facilities that were available were dirty. Definitely not like the pictures online. 
The relaxation area is cold and the loungers are stained. 
My friend and I decided to call it a day and left early. 
The overall aesthetic of the place could use some work. Flooring definitely needs work, especially in the showers. 
 The restaurant is pleasing to the eye and modern in appearance .
The monstrosity that they have built onto the side of the original building is an absolute eyesore and not within keeping of the original stonework. 
There is alot wrong with the spa. The ceiling in the changing area is heavily water stained and the changing area as a whole really needs a good clean. 
To be honest I think the whole spa area needs to be cleaned. The pool, jackuzzi (inside and out), the relaxation area needs some heating and maybe some new loungers that can be wiped clean. The whole experience was disappointing.
The area was not easy to navigate your way around and the lack of staff didn’t help the situation. 
The whole time we were in the spa area we did not see one member of staff. 
Won’t be visiting again.

Dirty and disappointing

We have visited the cafe at The Cleve many times and this weekend we chose to go to The Cleve for food and drinks after our son's Christening with family and friends. The cafe has a perfect lunch menu, a variety of drinks on offer and is in a lovely setting. The staff were friendly and organised whilst we planned the event - we had pre-orded our food and requested prosecco on our arrival. Communication was great, everything was set up perfectly. Staff were attentive and food all came out at the same time, presented very nicely. We were very pleased that we chose the cafe at The Cleve for his special event.

Waited ages to get our lunch even though we were the only ones to be waiting. One other table of two having drinks. Service was friendly but very slow even for the drinks and they were cold so not rocket science. Food was nice when we did get it but having got two children with us they were getting restless and it spoilt what should have been a nice lunch

The afternoon tea was the best we had ever had and a lot of it!  The quality of the food was amazing.  Shapna was attentive to our requirements and kept topping up the tea and coffee.  It was relaxing sitting on the terrace and looking out over the countryside with no one rushing us to leave.  Over 2hours well spent and worth the money.

Quite a nice cream tea but our visit went downhill from there.......sauna not working, steam room not working, indoor pool icy cold.............. I could also add; lack of staff in the spa facility, poor signage within the spa and lack of private changing facilities.  We won't be back. 

Disappointing 

Superb coffee . Friendly staff. Dog friendly . Beautiful setting . We were made very very welcome and I can’t wait to revisit .  All staff were smiling and the ambiance was lovely .  Well done all of you . This will be one of my new favourite places to visit
