Perfect location and wonderful hotel for exploring Colchester.  Staff so friendly, efficient and very friendly.  Added bonus of Green Room Cafe attached to hotel.  Breakfast delicious.  Would definitely stay again and would recommend to family and friends.

Little Gem!

Really worth staying a little way out of the city centre. It's only a tenner in a cab. And for the same price in the city centre, you get a tiny box room, single bed, partition wall and shared bathroom. Here, I got a comfy double bed, lovely big and clean room, very nice bathroom, no noise from outside roads etc, a sizeable en-suite bathroom and nice TV.
Plus, the staff were really friendly. And there was even a bar downstairs. I'd highly recommend this place. It's great value for such a nice place during the ludicrously popular Fringe season. Will definitely stay here again.

A brilliant stay

My wife and I stayed at Northfield House Hotel for four nights. We received a fantastic welcome. The personal family touch made all the difference. Nothing we asked for was a problem. Rooms and facilities excellent. Thanks. 

Fantastic Stay

Went mid-week for an unplanned lunch with a friend.  We opted for the soup and sandwich deal.  The food was of excellent quality (particularly recommend the leak and potato soup) and the staff friendly and attentive.  Lovely atmosphere, will be back.

Lovely Lunch

Very easy to book in. Friendly helpful staff. The food was good and the room was larger than expected. Really nice bathroom with a shower cubicle big enough to shower in. Regular bus service into the city as well which saved trying to find somewhere to park. We're already planning our next visit.

Excellent stay

There is not enough nice things I can say about this hotel and the owners. The room  was very spacious and very clean and the bed was very comfortable. 

The owners are incredibly friendly and helped us no end with any questions we had about the area. The hotel was also very well located with a bus stop that takes you into the heart of the city and runs very regular and all day.

I've also seen some negative reviews about the restaurant not being open Mondays and Tuesdays, this is clearly stated on the website and the breakfast which some people have complained about is delicious and plentiful and well worth the money.

I recommend this hotel to anyone and I shall certainly return 

Lovely stay

We stayed here just one night to see some of the Fringe Festival. Check-in was quick and easy and our room was bigger than expected. The room was furnished well and the bathroom was of a high quality too. The staff were very helpful when I asked to use the iron. 

The hotel is on the outskirts of the city and we caught a bus in. Be aware, you need the exact change for the bus. We decided to get a taxi back as uber is widely used.

I can't comment on the restaurant but I'd highly recommend the hotel. 

A great little hotel 

The exterior of the build was rustic and aged, the room was clean, warm, spacious and well equipped. The bed was comfortable and clean. The hosts Michelle and and Richard were very welcoming and facilitated a late request during our stay which greatly assisted in a successful family re union. Probably due to the time of the year, the restaurant facilities were minimal but the bar was opened. The hotel has a bus stop right outside, providing access to City centre and local shopping centres

Unexpected Family Re - Union

Our group (five friends) had a terrific stay at this small family-run hotel a short taxi ride away from Edinburgh City Centre. The owners were extremely helpful over email and phone when organising our stay, as well as during our stay. Rooms were clean and modern and everything worked perfectly. Great to have coffee and tea-making facilities in each room. Breakfast was continental with the option of eggs cooked your way. The hotel restaurant wasn't open in the evening during our stay (we had been advised of this beforehand) but, after a long day of sightseeing, the owners were happy for us to get a takeout delivered to the hotel and set a table for us to have it in the dining room and opened the bar for us. We loved Edinburgh and would happily stay here again given the opportunity.

Warm welcome near city centre

We booked the family room and it was a nice set up with a separate area for the kids were they could watch their own tv and play games. The room was spacious, the shower room again clean and spacious. It was quiet at night so we got a good rest each night. It was very easy to get into town by bus(number 31), the stop just outside the hotel, straight into city centre. Will definitely stay again when we will return.
We didn’t realise that the breakfast was continental (although it was advertised on line we just didn’t notice), so it was a bit disappointing when we sat down in the morning and we didn’t receive the much anticipated full Scottish breakfast. It’s a pity as the place actually has a restaurant. We felt the price was too much for the continental breakfast when it didn’t even include croissants or much of a choice.
