Fantastic.....NO PHONES...... Awesome, all pubs should do this, seems like the simple art of conversation  is back.  Nice ambience, friendly staff, good beer. Made my way from Hampshire to visit this very special and unique pub with no brainless dummys staring at phones.  Will return without a doubt. 

First Class, GREAT STUFF, NO GOONS ON PHONES.

We popped in The Swan Inn, The Managers Angela & James were most welcoming and friendly. Food was brilliant and served quickly. All credit to the Managerd who served at the bar, cooked and waited on, as well as chatting to all their customers. 

Evening Meal

Lovely friendly pub. The couple who run it, Angela and James, are really welcoming. They always have a chat with people. Its the only pub I know of where you can go in and everyone will have a chat with you. The fires are a lovely feature.

First time visit and a nice pub with hosts of little rooms. Manager was nice and introduced himself to us. Drinks were typical low priced Samuel Smiths. Wasn't very busy when we were here, but not many are midweek. Will call again.

QUIRKY PUBS

No phones, no music, no swearing, no atmosphere. Yet again Sam Smith ruins a decent pub, turning in to a weird pseudo pub. I think Sam must actually hate pubs.

It's a real shame because it's a beautiful building on the outside and in a brilliant location with ample parking and garden. But on the inside it's depressing.

The pub has just reopened after being shut for over 5 years. Won't be long before it's shut again!

No phones allowed in the pub a complete joke. Although quite entertaining watching adults have to go outside to make a phone call to tell somebody about the no phones policy 🤣

We stayed hear a couple of times when visiting family and we were very happy with our stay. So sad that it is no longer available as we would book again in a heart beat.
Don't know why we can no longer book so sad as it was so convienient for us. Comments by locals about changes seem a bit negative and probably haven't helped. Change is not good for everyone but things change, shame a good buisness has closed.     (Havent been able to book for a couple of year now but no option to put this on the when did you stay option),

The Swan is not meant to be a B&B, It has always been a locals pub for the decent people of Holmes Chapel. The locals are the ones who have kept it going. It does well with a darts team, ‘ If allowed one’ and a pool table and team would work also. The way it has been made into little rooms is just ridiculous, it could have been done up without changing it too much. It was a successful pub, even more so when they had TV etc. Now it’s an unsuccessful B&B. We feel sorry for the locals, who have kept this pub going for years. Now they have been let down by Sam Smiths.

In years gone by when Keith and Margaret had it it was thriving quaint and homewarming - decided to visit again as i was in the area - says it all - saturday night and no more than a handful if customers! The rest if holmes chapel was heaving ! Mine hosts not very hospitable or smart - the one plate at a time food coming up via the dumb waiter looked erghh .... wouldnt have been warm and god only knows if more than one dish was ordered what would have happened

The rooms are all separate - no atmosphere - bar at end not central - big mistake - staff not smart either.

What has oliver/humphrey done to this place - totally ruined everything about it

Staff werent even knowledgeable on the history, the drink or the village 

No choice of drink and no recognisable brands - this pub is waaaaaaay behind in the trends etc - cant see how its staying open

Its lost everything keith and margaret built up and is now an empty unatmospheric unenjoyable faceless pub 

This place should be heaving with all the new builds at this end of the village as its the only pub at this end so has lots of potential clientele but from what our friends said people walk past and go further to the bars and pubs in the centre and the other side of the village - that says it all

When we return to visit friends we will avoid this place and my the way its not victorian - there is a history to this place and one all staff should be aware of!!!

So lads - put it back how it was - move the kitchen on the same floor - not in the old cellar - so at least food can be served and warm - get someone in to manage sourced locally and make this place the best pub in town as it was when i left all those years ago - you will see the footfall from the new estates increase and make a killing but as it is now i dont know how it keeps open 



What has happened !!!!!

If you're looking for a comfy, local and amenable stay in Holmes Chapel then this is a must. 

My boyfriend and I stayed overnight at the Swan Inn following a friend's birthday nearby. We were pleasantly surprised by the room we were allocated. 

A full cooked English followed the next morning - tasted great and was included in our £80 double bed stay. 

Overall a lovely stay and highly recommended to anyone looking for a stay in the area.
