Great apartment, good location for Chester.

Home from home

Really nice, spacious, clean apartment in a great location. About 10-15 minutes walk into the city centre, and close to some nice pubs and restaurants. Check-in instructions were emailed ahead of time - there was nobody to greet us but the instructions to collect the keys and access the apartment were very clear.The apartment itself was lovely, and we were delighted that we decided to chose it over a hotel! We visited in December, and the despite the cold weather the apartment was perfectly warm once we had put the heating on. Our apartment had a balcony with a lovely view over the canal, although sadly it was too cold to make much use of it, it must be great in the summer! The apartment was more than big enough for the two of us, the wifi worked perfectly, the bathroom was nice and big, and it was great to have the option of cooking for ourselves.There isn't much to criticise, but if I had to be picky, the mattress was very soft - it seemed to sink a lot in the middle (it felt more like a hammock at times!) but this may be a personal preference. Other than that, it was strange that there were several plates but no bowls, and we couldn't find the remote control for the TV anywhere, but these were minor issues - we had a really nice stay here and would happily return!

We arrived from overseas late in the evening. The instructions were easy to understand getting into the apartment. When we walked in though, we were so disappointed with the apartment. It is rated as 4 stars, and I’m sure some of the apartments are. This apartment ( #29) definitely was not. The sofa springs were all broken and you sunk so low into it that it was hard to get out. The two armchairs had blankets thrown over then to hide all the stains on them. The chairs around the table were deeply stained too. The dishwasher was full of the previous persons dirty dishes, and their used pan scrub was still in the sink. The door handle to the bathroom was hanging off, and my husband actually got locked in the bathroom at one point. The pans were so disgusting that we didn’t want to use them. The beds were comfy fortunately. We had family staying in the same building in a beautiful apartment (#43) and we spent most of our time there so Christmas wasn’t entirely ruined. Chester itself is amazing.

A very disappointing stay

On arrival we discovered both full size window doors could not be locked which made us feel vulnerable. We reported the problem to the  Serviced Apartments. The guest book had comments going back a year or two so it's obvious the owner will never fix the problem. A dirty pan scrubber was left in the kitchen, stains on the sofas and bed cover. Apartment is always very hot but the bed was very comfortable. The apartment is very well positioned for a short stay in Chester, just a short stroll to the city centre and city walls.  A little more attention to detail and follow up on reported problems required.
