I have visited The Plough many times before, which is why I booked for a Father’s Day lunch today, I was really looking forward to it, but was very disappointed by the time we left. We went for Father’s Day last year & dads were made a big deal of, even got a free bottle of beer to take home, there was nothing like that this time, not even an acknowledgement that it was Father’s Day.
When we arrived at 12.15, the first people there, & checked in, the girl behind the bar had to ask my name a few times before showing us to our table, I also heard two of the young guys who were behind the bar with her saying my surname a few times, seeming as if they were taking the Mickey as they kept on laughing as they were saying it. Basically the customer service was awful, none of the staff seemed to know what they were doing, we were initially sat at the wrong table & then they moved us just before the other family arrived, with no offer of help to move our drinks or things. We sat down & I had to change mine & my daughters chairs as they were both really ricketty & broken, feeling unsafe to sit or move on. Once we had ordered our food, they kept bringing us the wrong food, it was meant for for the table they moved us from. When our correct main courses eventually came out the girl asked who the chicken was for (I had ordered beef & my husband had ordered pork), we said neither & told her our order, she just laughed & said, “oh well, I’m guessing that’s pork then!” I wasn’t impressed with my food too much, the veg wasn’t really cooked, in fact the cabbage & broccoli were raw. Having said that, the Yorkshires were fantastic. My children both had sausages, chips & beans, which they loved & ate all of it, they were good quality local sausages from the butcher. Pudding was nice. All meals were good sized portions. 
When I paid, as soon as she printed the receipt she didn’t even smile, say thank you or goodbye, she just walked off. 
To top it off, the toilets were disgusting & didn’t smell very nice, the floors were all wet & one of the toilets was coming off the wall, making me unsure whether my 3 year old daughter was safe to use it. 
I’m sad to say that it’s doubtful we will return in a hurry.

Very tasty Sunday lunch, generous servings, Pleasant staff and surroundings. Also a lovely garden area for warmer days.
Moderately priced, with a varied menu. I'm sure they would be a great venue for a family gathering.

Sunday lunch

Quality service, quality food, quality beer and quality setting. We celebrated our wedding anniversary with two starters and two main courses all of which were beautifully cooked and presented, and most importantly tasted delicious. The service was very professional and friendly with the food arriving promptly. The restaurant was very quiet for a Friday evening which is a shame as this is an excellent pub with superb food. We understand that there have been some challenges with the previous owners moving on and the new owners yet to take over but this had no effect on our experience. This was our second visit in the last few months and we will definitely be back in the very near future.

Suberb all round experience.

Visited for my Mum’s Birthday and had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. A wonderfully warm and cosy atmosphere that is so welcoming - the staff are so friendly and accommodating too. A complimentary Birthday cake with candle arrived when they realised it was a Birthday celebration which was a lovely, much appreciated gesture. 
 We often eat here too and the food is always amazing, with a varied menu and frequent themed evenings.  Can highly recommend a visit!

Birthday Drinks

I had booked a table on Boxing Day 2018 for myself and family who travelled from Canterbury. I asked if I could book for 2.30pm but was told the kitchen closed at that time but we could come at 2pm but only in the bar area as they were understandably busy that day. We chose to go ahead with the booking as we live in the village next to Hundon.

We arrived at the pub on time with our family in tow having travelled 3 hours to get here and unloaded our 5 month old baby. Anyone with a small baby can understand the preparation it takes to get out the door etc.

When we got inside, it was dead. We were then told that our table was booked for 1.30pm and the kitchen was now closed, we had arrived at our booking time of 2pm. The kitchen had been closed early due to the pub being so quiet, which contradicted our booking conversation. They had even scribbled out the original 2.30pm kitchen closing time on the sign outdoors. They then also told us that the pub fully closed at 3pm anyway that day, which is ridiculous. Not at any point were we told the pub would be closing at 3pm, why would I book a table for our family Christmas lunch at 2pm, only giving us an hour?! I wouldn’t have bothered if I knew that!

We were offered sandwiches and crisps which obviously wasn’t suitable and spent a further 40 minutes after leaving trying to find somewhere else to go at such short notice on Boxing Day.

Overall, I was really disappointed, particularly more so that our family had travelled hours to then be let down. It is such a shame as the pub is very close to where I live and was hopeful it would be somewhere to visit in the future.
