Our stay was very relaxing and beautiful.  Breakfast came hot and was delicious.  We had our dinners there too. Excellent fish flavors. They arranged airport pick up/ drop and our day tour (spice tour and Stone Town) at a very reasonable price. Our bungalow was on the 2nd floor, stairs up were quite steep with large risers - not that great for short people, but we managed. Prices were quite good.

I enjoyed the food was very delicious also the (Mohammed and Said) the staff had good hospitality they took me around the beach also when i asked them to take me photos they did that without complaining,It felt amazing walking beside the turquoise beach ,Its a very calm place too.

I was a young woman travelling alone, the people of Upepo (Jah and Mohamed:) knew the people I was staying with and knew I would have rather stayed in Bwejuu for the rest of my stay in Zanzibar rather than on a farm. They were so kind to give me a room, food, and anything else I needed. They treated as family and I'll never forget the love I felt from all the Zanzibaris I met on the beach of Bwejuu<3 
The location is astonishingly beautiful, white sand, turquoise ocean, beautiful bungalows (that are very homey). In the morning you can walk right onto the beach and watch the sunrise and then come right into the kitchen for some chai and yummy breakfast. I would usually go down the beach for dinner, but if I didn't, they would make chips and mishkaki special for me. I had so much fun with them as they took me out on the town, took me to see the sunsets and were just great friends in my time there. I'll definitely be going back to Upepo specifically as it now feels like home<3 Missing it and the people so much already.

I stayed at Upepo Garden last month, and loved every relaxing minute of my weekend there. The location on the beach is stunning, and the rooms are cozy and comfortable. The friendly service from Karianne and her team made my stay exceptional; it felt a bit like staying with a good friend. I hope to be back again soon.

We had a wonderful time staying for three nights at this small, peaceful place tucked inbetween palm trees and right at the shore of Bwejuu beach. The staff (Mohamed and Ali) were incredibly accommodating and made our stay extra homely from the moment we arrived. We would recommend this beautiful spot for anyone seeking a relaxing, rejuvenating and peaceful vacation. Thank you to the Upepo team! We definitely will be seeing you again and will be recommending you to our family and friends.

We chose Upepo on reccomendation of friends and would definitely chose it again. Our double cottage was perfectly clean, nice beds, the establishment has a quiet and friendly atmosphere and the best and cheapest food in the surroundings. We had a great time sitting around the fire, making music with the friendly, helpful and engaging manageament of Momo, Manuel and Blessi and the rest of the amazing staff. We enjoyed the lovely massages of Chia the massage therapist. Rental of Bikes and scooters made it possible to check out the surroundings and reach some of the most beautiful spots of the island. Swimming was always possible except for 3-4 hours a day when the tide is low. We used those hours just to chill or to drive to the nearby lagoon for some good snorkelling (I had never interacted with fish before, and what a variety), or to just walk to the reef from our bungalow in calf deep water (bring rubber shoes) through  varieties of colourful starfish, corals and shells of all kinds. For some action we walked a few hundred metres down the beach to nex next couple of restaurants for a change of scenery and occasional live music. A constant breeze kept us cool at all times.

A good choice, a little far from the main part of quiet Bwejuu, but then you get a quiet piece of beach and relaxing atmosphere.  Food was good, staff are friendly and helpful.  The sea-view rooms are very nice and get a good breeze, but I would avoid the garden rooms if possible as they can get warm.  
No hesitations recommending this place, we'd be happy to be back there.

What did we like?
The staff was incredibly nice and very helpful. We appreciated alot all their help & hospitality. The location was good and they were happy to accomodate our request to refund us our money for one night as we had to leave earlier. 

The beach was beautiful and had way less beach boys compared to other areas of the island. 

What did we not like?
- Only cold water was available for showers
- They had left flowers in the room for decorations, we ended up having ants everywhere( including bed and bathroom)
- There is no shade on the beach due to the lak umbrellas. The sunbeds had no mattresses only a thin sports/Yoga mat.
- On arrival we were the only guests and were sent to a hostel for dinner. Hostel food turned out really nice though.
- WIFI did exist but i could never pick it up apart from the reception where it was abnormaly slow (In comparison to other hotels on the Island).
All in all, the rate we paid per night for rooms was way overpriced ($72/night) and the hotel requires urgent renovations. Considering it was our honeymoon, we were disappointed with the standards offered.

Great staff but disappointing hotel standard & amenities

i booked through airbnb. the place location is amazing. but the place itself is dirty. stained bedsheets and bathroom towels. all also smell. the bathroom has only cold water. the wifi is a tiny modem that the staff (one guy!) brings out when he wakes up and he takes it away at the end of the day. so you basically have no wifi in the morning or nights. and even when there is wifi, it barely works. 

the owner wrote a review that i was demanding asking too many questions for a budget place in a developing country. well, we all agree that we should ask all the questions, especially in a developing country. also accused me of trying to pay my bill w a t-shirt. which is absurd. we gave it as a donation to the housekeeper. he probably took the 40USD that we paid for our bill, and told the owner this crazy story. mind you, the owner lives in canada and isnt present at all. 

also they did NOT send the transportation as agreed. so i landed in zanzibar with my bike and had NO TRANSPORTATION!!!! i had to find away to get to the bungalow. find a taxi big enough. definitely not a good welcome. 

the bungalow is also falling apart. 

there are positives, which is a given of the country, the nature and the beach right in front. so if you can stomach cold showers, and some dirty sheets and towels, you will be fine. 

breakfast is served when the one guy wakes up, which is around 9-10am. not acceptable. i wanted to ride my bike early morning so i missed the free breakfast daily and was charge 5,000 local currency for 3 bananas!!!!

please note im a cyclist and alpinist. i am not fussy and sleep anywhere and am ok with cold showers. just felt this place wasnt honest about the conditions. 

definitely shady ppl. be careful.

dirty facilities. no wifi. disappointment!!!

We used their pick up service from Stone Town. The normal price is USD50, but they charged us 60. The driver was late. The car’s air conditioning was broken (it was 36 degrees outside), the window wouldn’t open. When we got to Upepo, were we offered a welcome drink? No. Were we offered water? No.  A face towel? No. Any other form of welcome? No. Nothing. Mohammed, the manager, was only concerned that we pay up front immediately. We ordered lunch, since there’s nowhere else to eat nearby. It took them 70 minutes to make it. My meatballs were so bad (raw inside) that I sent them back. The chips were cold. 
The room is horrible - nothing 'boutique' about it at all. No air-con (which we knew, when we booked), but very stuffy, no through breeze. At night, there was a fan, which made it just about bearable. Then they turned off the electricity at midnight. We were all sweltering. 
When we complained, Mohammed eventually, reluctantly said he’d give us a USD10 discount on our food bill. When I checked my checked my change, he’d given us a USD5 discount.
Of the places I’ve reviewed on TA, this is probably the worst.
