Would highly recommend this place pre and post safari. We stayed at Umali for two nights, before and after visiting Serengeti and Ngorongoro crater. The staff is extremely helpful, very attentive and is committed to make your stay very comfortable. Cute, very clean cottages all surrounded by greenery. Located very close to the Ngorongoro crater, in a very green and super safe area. Great food, enjoy your stay!

This is a really lovely lodge to stay in after or before a trip to Ngorongoro. The staff are very friendly and completely able to help with all your needs. The lodge is quite, clean, secure and very very comfortable (the beds are huge). There are some rustic features, the bathrooms are basic but clean and european, and the lights can flicker if there is a high wind. But it is beautiful and I would stay here again. I would highly recommend it to all looking to wash the dust off after a long game drive. The food is very good, I actually have a gluten allergy and the food they made me was excellent. We also had amazing service, we needed to check in online, so the staff came to our room with a dongle to make sure we could do it while we were there. In the evening you can hear frogs from the dinning room and see beautiful birds from your room.

Our two night stay at Umali was wonderful. It was very relaxing and quiet.

The room was large and clean. The bathroom as small but very clean and functional. There was hot water to spare. We enjoyed sitting on the little patio. I moved the small couch to take advantage of the breezes and spent several lazy hours enjoying the flowers and the birds.

The food was very good. As we arrived during off season, we ate a mix of local and western food that I found tasty and comforting. 

The thing that I found most memorable about the hotel was the service. My husband requested that someone from the hotel drive me to the area where the marathon was taking place. The staff not only drove me but accompanied me the whole time! I had a great time. Later in the day when I was in need of a pharmacy, the staff was happy to take me. They allowed us access to their Wifi which was so welcome. 

I would stay here again.

We traveled throughout Northern and Central Tanzania and this was our favorite place. We had great food, wonderful service, comfortable rooms, and hot water which is not always a given when traveling in Africa. Beautiful setting with lots of lovely flowers and love birds.

I was put up here as part of a package deal so I'm not really sure what this place costs on it's own.  Thus, I can't really comment on the "value", but I enjoyed my one night here.  The grounds are in a very quiet location near to the Ngorongoro Crater, with a very pretty garden right outside the rooms.  The rooms are quaint and clean with plenty of hot water.  The highlight of the stay for me was the dinner.  My wife and I happened to be the only people there on the night we stayed and all the food was made fresh and was delicious.  All the hotel staff was beyond nice.

If I was ever in the area again, I would probably want to stay on the Crater's edge, but for a (presumably) cheaper option, this is a great choice.

Umali lodge is a very nice place! 
You can live the true kindness of Tanzania people.
Very good the dinner and the lunch pack.
I suggest this place for its authenticity and for its location (very close either Ngorongoro Conservation Area and Lake Manyara NP).
