Very good location with close access to food, bike rentals and bus station. Friendly and helpful staff. Bed in Japanese style room very hard for Westerner. Black out curtains not black out.

This is a great value guesthouse for a visit to Sun Moon Lake. It is conveniently located near the main bus stop, and within a few minutes walk from some restaurants and the lake. The rooms are clean and spacious, but it is easy to hear sounds coming from other rooms and the hallway. Owners are very friendly, but have limited English. You can get maps & buy tickets for the tourist activities nearby from them as well.

Great Location

A great value for a stay at Sun Moon Lake if you are on a budget.  The hotel is an easy walk from the bus stop (taking a bus in from Taipei) and to the Tourist information center.  Also an easy walk to bike rentals and restaurants.  The staff is very friendly.

Great Value and Great Location for Sun Moon Lake Visit on a Budget

The location is fantastic, within 50 meter away from the bus stop. If you take bus from Taichung city to Sun Moon Lake, from the bus stop, just walk straight and the guest house is on the right side with a big sign at the second floor building, next to the guesthouse is a local restaurant (which open during afternoon only).

When we arrived there, the guesthouse building was locked and we just ring the bell from outside. Not long after a Chinese man come out, he did not speak English and I managed to communicate with him with my broken Chinese. After signed the registration book, he gives me the key to the room which located at next door building. And then he gives free Sun Moon Lake city map and information about the sights and sell special deal for the return boat rides. He also informed me about the last boat back from Ita shaw city, and closing time for the cable car.

We purchased the return boat rides from him with special price (do not remember the cost) but it was good deal, can use it to stop at 2 different places. He tell me how to go to the harbour where the boat located.

After that, he showed us the room which located at the next building at the second floor. The room itself okay, looks clean, however the window inside the room was facing the hallway and the other one facing the stairways to go up the third floor.

It has one king size bed, dresser with free two mineral water bottles. There were big mineral water bottles (hot and cold) downstairs freely available for guests. The television was old but it work well and has English channels as well when I tried it. There were a couple chairs and tallboy at the side of the wall of the room.

The bathroom is big but basic, at least the hot water work well.

We use the air condition unit to warm the room as it was quite cold inside the room.

The mattress was comfortable and wifi is free and quite fast from inside the room.

At night time around 6pm when we come back from sightseeing, it was very quiet inside the room and we could not hear any traffic from outside. Unfortunately, not long after, a lot of noises from the hallway and the next door room (it seems local people staying at this place as well) and it seems like they scream to each other when they were talking.

After we come back from dinner, we heard a lot of noise as well from the room next door and we just turn on television so we would not hear the screaming noise.

Luckily by 10pm, the noise quite down and we can sleep well at this place.

If you are on budget and noise would not bother you, this is a good place to stay, as location is really good. However, if you are a light sleeper and fussy with facility, this is not a place for you. It cost TWD 1500 per night (usd48) without breakfast.
