Excellent visit, especially host Mike who spoke fluent English. He was exceptionally courteous and polite, and did everything from serving drinks on the patio, tending bar inside, serving breakfast in the morning, and answering questions about where to go and what to see in Bern. It was a pleasure to be his guest and when we thanked him for all his help he THANKED US for staying at the hotel. We definitely go back.

Great service and best location in the city.

After reading the review I was a little apprehensive about our stay. However we were pleasantly surprised. The room was a good size, clean and the beds very comfortable. The room felt cosy and romantic with a lovely view of the old town. Only a 15 minute walk from the station. The lady at reception was helpful and quick with check-in. Breakfast was simple but tasty. The room had two large windows which opened wide and also an air-conditioning fan.
We would definitely stay again if we were staying in Bern. 

Simple but central

Great stay for our last night in Switzerland! We had a corner room with great views of the city! It was clean and comfortable. The staff was also very accommodating and friendly. They held all of our luggage for us the day we checked out since we were catching an evening train. Breakfast was simple, but just what we needed to start our day. Would stay here again!

Accommodating and Friendly

Nothing wrong with this hotel. Good location and simple breakfast. Some people like to complain about anything but this place is fine. If you want fancy pay three times as much and stay at the Bellevue Palace. They even give you a code for free public transport in Bern. Check in and out was smooth.

Two nights at the Nydeck

On the outside it looked marvelous, on the inside it was old but okay. No lift for your luggage. The breakfast was poor, but the service on the terrace was great. The location was awesome! A nice view from the window, in the middle of the city center and everything was walkable.

A night in Bern

Das Hotel Nydeck ist wunderbar in der Altstadt Berns, zwischen Gerechtigkeitsbrunnen und Nydeggbrücke (zum Bärengraben) gelegen.
Hotel Nydeck is perfectly well situated in the old town of Berne, half way between the fountain of justice and the Nydegg-Bridge (to the Bear Park, formerly the the Bear-Pits)

eine Nacht und alles bestens - one night stay, all okay

This hotel is nicely located in the old centre. It’s an old building with nice view on the old city from your window. The room has everything you can expect for this price. The staff is very polite. Nice coffeeshop! Good value for money. 

Very good location 

In the mid 1990's I stayed at the Hotel Nydeck with my wife for over two months and I have stayed here a number of times over the years.  There is something unique about this place that other hotels can't offer. The complaints people have about this place are certainly true, but the romance here is off the charts and if you're a writer or creative person in search of inspiration you will be happy to know that the muses are very strong here. I cherish my memories from my days here. Great hotels are a dime a dozen, but this is rare and worth it if you can see through the superficial.

This hotel must be measured by its atmospherics

Very nice location for a romantic week end in the old town of Bern, BUT basically no reception, there is no electric plug in the bathroom, rooms very small, a bit falling apart, on the week end breakfast only from 8.00 !! So if you have to leave early...forget your breakfast.
