I stayed two nights at Mama's Place and was really impressed by the quality and service at such a reasonable price. They arranged transport for me from Colombo and also onward to my next destination and the drivers they arranged were very professional and safe.
The accommodation and food were very good with very friendly, helpful staff and I would recommend Mama's Place for a comfortable budget accommodation in Mirissa.

Comfortable budget accommodation with very helpful staff.

What a gem of a place, 2 minutes from the beach and 10 minutes from the town. We booked for a few days and extended to 2 weeks. The rooms are large with a balcony with sea view. The huge bed was very comfortable with nice white sheets and a mosquito net. Bathrooms had lashings of hot water and were very spacious. The restaurant served traditional food which was very tasty. The manager was so helpful arranging trips and transport for us.

A Hidden Gem

Mamas place is absolutely incredible. The best room we have had so far, mama and all of the staff were amazing and helpful and the food is just delicious!!! Nothing i could complain about, would definitely come back here again and hope we will soon. Highly recommend

Everything was amazing!!

Mama's place has just reopened and is a great place to stay in Mirisa. The double rooms have a hot shower and a great double bed. They are 30 seconds walk from the beach and tucked away in a quiet spot. 

I had a great breakfast and will be coming back as it is a super friendly place to stay.

Great find next to the beach!

It was our Wedding Anniversary Trip. We wanted to include Whale Watching to make it extra special. Mama’s place arranged pick up to the Pier where the whale watching ships were waiting. And there was a sumptuous breakfast on the boat and also a Brunch after we came back. The room was clean , with a balcony with a hammock.

A snug shack like retreat right by the beach

Friendly Staff.  Clean and comfortable accommodation Superb location best of both worlds jungle and beach front. Also far enough away from busy main road which could get chaotic  Food very good lovely breakfast.

What a wonderful rustic friendly place

A very enjoyable and and tasty experience with a welcoming and friendly family. 
My Girlfriend and I saw a little sign advertising cooking classes with Mama. We booked at short notice and had a fantastic experience helping to cook an authentic Sri Lankan fish curry with all the trimmings.
We were guided throughout and were able to chop, peel, wash, stir, and taste along the way. The kitchen and utensils are beautifully basic as you might imagine but the result was incredible! 
We ate the meal we had helped to create in the simple but shaded restaurant. After we had eaten, Mama sat down and explained once more what we cooked, how we did it and what ingredients were in each dish as we wrote it all down.  


Cooking class with Mama 

I stayed nearby in Thusara GH. Went there several times for breakfast / lunch / dinner. Good prices and awesome food. Restaurant does not look welcoming at first, but (very tough) Mama will cook you some awesome food, also on request and when not on the menu. Had the most tender squid (curry) ever.

My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our stay at Mamas place and loved that the whole place seemed to be run and looked after by mama and her family. Everyone was very nice and accommodating. We were impressed with the quality of the room and everything was very clean. The room wasn’t a/c but instead had a massive fan above the bed which was perfect; it was never too hot to sleep. It wasn’t too noisy and only a short walk along the beach to the bars and restaurants. It’s also not far to the supermarket and shops. The end of the driveway into mamas was only about 10 meters from the beach. The food at mamas was really tasty and probably the best we had in Mirissa. Mama does offer cooking lessons but unfortunately we didn’t have time - we would love to have learned how to make her Rasam soup.

Homely and Chilled

Stopped in for what we hoped would be real Sri Lankan flavours and we were not disappointed! Very rustic- don’t bother if you are looking for fancy seating and bring mosquito spray although they do have coils. 

Mama was cooking and based on other reviews, this is why we picked this night. She recommended the calamari so that’s what we had. I had a curry which I asked for spicy and added dahl and husband had the less spicy version with salad. It was delicious. The Dahl was thick and hot and the best I’ve had here so far and the curry was spicy and loaded with all the lovely Sri Lankan flavours I’ve been waiting for. The calamari was perfectly cooked - tender and not at all rubbery.  Mama and the boys were super friendly  and helpful. 
The restaurant is right at the western end of the beach down a little lane; there is no view and you can’t see the beach so this is not a place for a romantic setting but the food was excellent and that’s exactly what I was hoping for. I recommend!
