The Drop Inn makes for a clean, comfortable, low-budget stay in an ideal location on the edge of Kandy Lake. The hosts were lovely and helpful with any questions or requests I had. The location was perfect for access to the temple of the tooth and it is a short 15 minute scenic walk into Kandy.

Lovely stay in an ideal location

I love that place and staff is amazing. You can ask for breakfast and staff will help you to order tuk tuk and open the door late if there is a need. I love the tarace and calm atmosphere. I strongly recomend this place, it made my stay in Kandy a pleasure experience.

Amazing Stay

Very happy with our stay. It wasn’t anything flash and not the most clean place we’ve stayed but it served its purpose. Noisy at night with dogs and parties (we were staying on the weekend of political rallies and Independence Day). The staff and view made it all ok. Warning: It is a big, uphill walk to get back to this place after getting food.

We stayed at this hostel for two nights. Our room was well ventilated and spacious. Breakfast was great and the staff very helpful and friendly. When I was poorly they were really accommodating. The views from the balcony are unparalleled. You can see Kandy Lake and the Giant Buddha Statue is visible. You are walking distance to the temple of the tooth relic. 

Great stay 

Location is in the interiors of the city and takes around 10 min to the main road to find any public transportation. We were given basement room which was clean but a little claustrophobic. A window in the room is always good.
Staff was very helpful and the breakfast was very good. It was very quiet and dark in the night - not a very safe feeling. Also difficult to find food outside after 9PM. We had to go about km away to find a good restaurant.

Good Breakfast and Helpful Staff

I visited this place with My friends and lectures to spend the time here as a part of our batch trip.we are a group of students from Srilanka Institute of tourism and hotel management.we selected this place as our accomadation due to our education tour was in Kandy this time.So as a hotalier I would say it is really value for money.peaceful surrounding and owner and the staff is very friendly and supportive.Nice place to visit with friends or family as this is a kind of hostel type accomadation.We had a DJ party that has been organize by us and it was a spaces place to have it.Nice place infront of Kandy Dharmaràja collage.

Peaceful Stay

The Drop Inn is a pretty old building that is starting to fall apart... its a little bit dirty and shoddy and there were so many ants in and around my toilet that climbed through a hole in the wall to nowhere.
When we arrived it was already dark... the tub tuk at the station knew the street so took us there and we were amazed it could get up such steep slopes and angles but it did. We checked in and told the older manager we were going to walk for food to a place called Garden Cafe that we had seen nearby online... he said it was an easy 5 minutes walk... 30 minutes later, we decided to turn back because the roads were too dark and not lit... we carried on for another hour in the other direction hoping we could find somewhere to eat... there was nothing around for miles except a little grocery store with snack food... eventually we gave in and paid 200 to a tuk tuk to take us there... not a 5 minute walk!
another 200 then back to the hotel.
Next day we had a good breakfast in the hotel and we were able to walk into the city as there was a pedestrian path that is not well lit at night and we did that.
The young manager was incredibly helpful and kind and we saw the older manager who apologised as apparently there are closer places and he said he should have told us (this was completely unprompted which was interesting).

Overall its just a bit old, in the middle of nowhere, and not so welcoming in the shared spaces... not so good wifi (couldn't get it in my room) and no hot water... i would not recommend this for a family.

Lastly I need to mention that we thought we had booked a room... but apparently we only paid for two beds, so they only made up two beds within a room of three beds... there was no problem with this per say and its not so wasteful I suppose but it was just annoying to get in late at night and choose our beds, to find that mine had no sheets (it was not immediately obvious)... and that the bed I just unpacked all my stuff on was the one with the sheets... blargh.

Also that poor young manager was working every hour! He served us breakfast, took our money for the room in the afternoon... let us in at 2am after we went to midnight mass... and helped us to our tuk tuk at 6am...
