Bentota has become very fashionable and it is hard to find somewhere that isn’t a very pricey boutique hotel or anonymous resort.
Ewe and his Sri Lankan wife run a very personal, friendly guesthouse of five rooms. It is set back in amongst coconut palms and there are birds everywhere.
The rooms are simple and clean with a balcony and efficient air conditioning. There is a communal kitchen where you can get drinking water and store your own drinks which is very useful,
The beach is a short walk away - it is a quiet end of the beach and there is a quite a lot of rubbish in this area. At the far left end there is a safe place to swim and a couple of resorts where you can get drinks.
The communal breakfasts and dinners are very good - you sit on their pretty verandah and the portions are very generous too.

The only area that could be improved is the bathrooms. They are clean but there is a pervasive drains smell. The tap in our bathroom had come loose too. 
Maybe they need to be open air- we stayed in other places with very stylish open bathrooms.
All in all, I recommend this place if you want somewhere more personal

Execellent value

Our plan for our trip to Sri Lanka was to maybe visit two or three places but our main aim was rest and relaxation. After a few nights here we realised we had all we needed. A basic clean room with a large bed and a/c, hot shower, access to a glorious pool just steps from the room, a communal kitchen, lovely breakfast on the terrace of the hosts house who were helpful and available. A little tricky to find, not all tuk tuk drivers know where it is, it is close to a reasonable restaurant and five minutes from an empty beach that you can stroll along to Bentota. So instead of staying three nights we stayed fifteen at a very reasonable price. The only problem is if we want to go back the property is fully booked until the end of April, which is understandable.

Relaxing, comfortable

We had quite an adventure finding this place, which is tucked away down a dirt track.
We were warmly welcomed by the owners and shown to our room which was delightful. A very large and comfortable bed with a good mosquito net. A good bathroom with H&C water. Each room was cleaned every day, something which is rare in Sri Lanka except higher end hotels.We had our evening meals here most nights, they were well cooked and at their best when they were pure Sri Lankan. There is a pool in the garden which looked well maintained and very inviting.
There are also a large number of wild animals and birds in the garden to keep you entertained.

Off the beaten track

A few km south of bentota, quiet and off the beaten track This property is stunning. You can sit on ur verandah and watch kingfishers and wood peckers play . Ideal for the independent traveller but would also suit families with young children. Spotlessly clean and well serviced rooms. Beautiful pool and no distance from the best beach in bentota . The owners will organise any transport / trips you may like . We took the boat safari today and it was fab 

Currently staying 

A short tuk tuk ride from Bentota village and Aluthgama town, this friendly homestay benefits from a beautiful pool (complete with kingfisher when we stayed). The hosts provide a warm welcome and bountiful breakfast. It's a very short walk (5mins down the drive) to the beach and a lovely end of the beach far from the big resorts. They even have a kitchen for you to use. We stayed with our two children who were very warmly welcomed.
I would highly recommend this place.
