Cheap hostel with large rooms with air conditioning.... family owners are lovely and help with everything. Family provided us with scooters, taxis and great advice for the rest of our travels around Sri Lanka.

Basic but great

Really nice staff. Helped us a lot, and were really kind. The room was okay, without AC its too hot, but you can also book a room with AC. 
The sleeping room was nice. The bathroom was okay, we missed a window. And inside we had a frog a pet :)

Very nice hotel. 
In my opinion the best option in Arugam bay. Our room had a lot of space, Air conditioning, it was clean and had a good price. 
We stayed there for 6 weeks in total. 
Staff was friendly and always around in case you need water or something else.

Excellent hotel !

The way of the bay hostel offers rooms for very low prices so we did not expect too much, but when we arrived there was nobody who could check us in. We asked the boy that was around there but he had no idea and told us, barely able to speak english, the manager would come. After one hour, nobody arrived of course, we asked again and it came out that the manager would not come today. So the boy showed us a room with a dirty bathroom, frogs and geckos inside and dirty sheets on the bed. We called the manager and his simple response was that we could have a more comfortable room for double price we booked. We felt not welcome there at all, he spoke as if for a low price we could not expect a clean bed what is just incredible. We had different experiences (good ones!) with rooms of the same price category in sri lanka but in arugam bay people maybe think they can do this with people in high season. In the end we decided to cancel the booking paying half price and instead we found a nice room nearby. We would definitely not go there again!

Don't go there

Good and cheap accommodation at the beach. A room where we stayed was simply but got the basics. Location was good at the beach and restaurants and shops were close by.

We did a tuktuk safari with our host Mahinda and it was amazing! Totally the best money I spent during my trip in Sri Lanka. We spent the day with Mahinda, he took us to see wild animals to outside of a national park. We saw elephants, crockodiles, deers, rabbits, scorpion etc. He showed us local restaurants, climbed to a rock to see the national park above and also took us to a silent beach to see the full moon. What an amazing day we had with him, thank you Mahinda once again! :) I can truly recommend to do a tuktuk safari with Mahinda!
