This is probably the gem of the north of Las Palmas, Gran Canaria. Many hostellers may prefer the south because of the proximity to more touristy things, but for a more authentic feel of the island, Big Fish is an excellent place to set up camp for a few days or even a few weeks. In fact, many of the people visiting this hostel end up extending their stay they love it so much. And I was one of them.

By the Sea, Perfect Hospitality

Very happy to have been able to stay at The Big Fish for 4 nights. Relaxed hostel atmosphere in an older building that is regularly cleaned. Place has a great location near the beach and staff efficient and friendly. Even tolerated this aging tourist. Note there are stairs but they also lead to a rooftop balcony.

Escape for sun and warmth holiday

This is my FORTH TIME staying at Big Fish Las Palmas. I usually stay for 2-4 weeks, for good reasons…IT’S A GREAT PLACE! For a Hostel its super clean, very safe; intercom with camera and buzzer. The staff have always been great, helpful, fun, informed, all four times. This time Ferdi, Jack and the rest of the crew were welcoming, accommodating, fun, friendly, willing to help and offer advice about LP… AT ALL TIMES! Jacks BBQs are legendary!

SO…I just finished reading some of the latest reviews and wow what a bunch of BS. Firstly let me say I am an old-school-backpacker with 25 years of experience. I’ve stayed in all sorts of places around the world, not to brag, but to provide you with assurance.  I Have 76 countries over that time under my belt. I’ve stayed in all sorts of accommodations from High-End to the bottom of the barrel. So when I review a Hostel/Hotel/Campsite etc… I know what I am talking about… got it!?... good. A Hostel, or a good one, is about communal living. It’s NOT a Resort, Hotel, Motel or Holiday Inn, so clean up after yourself and respect your fellow travelers and, especially, the people that work there. For the most part Hostel workers are “volunteers” who get accommodation and sometimes other perks and that it, that’s how all Hostels work. Hosteling is about getting to know other cultures/countries and people. You will have the best opportunity to improve and expand your Social Intelligence within a Hostel. No other, maybe camping, type of accommodation can offer this. Most importantly we are talking about cost. Hosteling is a cheap way to see and explore the world. So leave your expectations at the door, embrace something new. Therefore, complaints about loud noise; aka people having a good time, socializing, playing music are ridiculous. By some ear plugs ya big baby! Noise after 11PM, so what!, are you 10 years old and need your bedtime? These types of complaints are from people with Hotel type expectations and I hope that in my future travels that they stay there.... A n d y :)

This is a well established hostel in Gran Canaria and its professional ran. I really enjoyed the satff here who go out of there way to make you feel welcome and to insure you have a good time. 

The location is excellent and paring near by.

Very good hostel

If I could give zero stars I would. This place is a joke and a disgrace. Avoid at all costs. I've stayed in hostels all over the world and LOVE hostel life but this is by far the WORST ONE OF ALL TIME. Paid extra for a room with an ensuite bathroom only to arrive and be told my room is the one behind the reception desk in the living room, with a wall that might as well be made from cardboard since it's paper thin. It gets better: this room has no lock therefore no privacy from the staff who are constantly opening the door whenever they bloody feel like. The hostel apparently has a quiet period after 11pm but for each of my 6 nights here there was been dozens of people, loud music, shouting, jam sessions late into the night. The one night I tried saying something they told me to get ear plugs. Also during check-in the staff are the most rude people you will encounter in Las Palmas - got no information about events or day trips, missed out on a tapas night in old town because they didn't tell us about it. Do not stay here, location is great but not worth the awful experience. Everyone in my room were strangers but we all agreed - this was the worst hostel experience of our lives.
