We stayed for 4 nights in June during an incredible heatwave. We were grateful to have such pleasant accommodation as we were confined indoors for the hottest part of the days, due to my risk of sunburn on my Irish skin. Our large terrace with wonderful panoramic views was a delight. A small omission - the room did not have enough storage - some drawers would be good and we would have liked a table on the terrace. The two sisters work incredibly hard and produce great wine and even marvellous beef tomatoes, which are left for a simple breakfast with good juice, bread and coffee. They gave us tips on local restauranrts and also recommended Restaurant  Mugarra in Bilbao, where we had the best meal on our whole trip in the Basque Country so we were very grateful for that. If you want a restful stay in immaculately clean, tasteful and comfortable accommodation, with the best hosts - stay at Ados Basarte Agroturismo.

Wonderful views & excellent hospitality

Convenient location if you are on a driving or walking tour of the Basque Country. Lovely rural location, yet only 15 minute walk to the beach and restaurants in the town. The accommodation is of a very high standard; clean, comfortable, and tastefully decorated. The two sisters, who own the place, and their staff are delightfuly friendly and most helpful. An added bonus was getting to taste the excellent wine, produced from home- grown grapes in the on-site craft wine facility. I have traveled extensively, and this is among the best and most charming places I have stayed

Charming

This is a gorgeous winery run by two sisters. It is out of the way but in absolutely beautiful basque wine country. It is run by two sisters. We had a wine tasting with great wine. There is also a nice B&B on the upper floor of the winery. Gorgeous views of the countryside. 

Terrific winery

The house is lovely, the surrounding vineyard and land is peaceful and Maria Jose and Arantza are excellent hosts and amazing women! 

The rooms themselves are large and comfortable, the kitchen/dining area just right for eat-in breakfast or dinner, and the huge, bright sitting room is a perfect place to relax with coffee and a book in the early morning while looking out over the landscape.

We came to Bakio mainly to hike to San Juan Gaztelugatxe. With a forecast of rain the following two days, we arrived early afternoon on the bus from Bilbao, hoping to hike that afternoon. Arantza and Ma Jose not only let us check in early and leave our bags in our room, but Ma Jose actually drove us to the starting point of the trail to the hermitage!

We enjoyed learning about the history of the house and the family and sampling the txakoli, the traditional Basque wine made in their winery. We are glad we stayed longer in Bakio than the one day that many people give it, because it is a lovely old town in its own right, as we discovered both from the views from the house as well as walking all around the area.

We stayed here during a road trip through the Basque Region. This was our last evening in the region and before we made our way to Rioja. We weren't looking to visit Bakio per se but instead we were looking for a place to lay our heads during this road trip and Bakio made sense geographically. We lucked out here! Our GPS did not recognize the address and had us driving in circles but we stopped and asked a local shopkeeper and her directions had us there easily.
This is a lovely home on a gorgeous property. Maria is a generous hostess. She made us feel right at home. We had a spacious room on the second floor (where the communal kitchen is located) with gorgeous views of the vineyards and mountains. We could even see in the distance San Juan Gaztelugatxe (which we had just visited before arriving at Ados and a must). The room was impeccably clean and we had a lovely terrace to enjoy the views and sample Ados' delicious vino blanco. Like a postcard picture!

Maria had great recommendations for dinner. Many places are within walking distance to the house which is incredible since you feel so removed when you look out.

This may not be for everyone but it is for those looking for peace and quiet, a countryside experience, with relaxed and warm hospitality (like visiting a family). This experience was a real treat for us and a great finale to our Basque visit. Thank you Maria!!
