African Array Backpackers Lodge

Really enjoyed it here. Views stunning from the lodge and our bedroom. We did get taxis a few times but that's to be expected as we didn't self drive and they weren't expensive. Good breakfast and dinner and they can set you up a braai for you if you bring own food. Family are colourful characters and always good for a chat. Would love to return. 

The view from AA is absolutely incredible ! Words fail to describe stepping out of the front door. The lodge is a hidden diamond. 

For 3 days, Vicky and the team made our stay warm and welcoming from the moment we stepped off the BazBus. They met every request with a smile. They sorted out our excursions, got us where we needed to go, fed us(food was lovely) and the place was spotless . 

I HIGHLY recommend staying with Vicky, Sarah, Martin, Faith and the team - wonderful place!  



What an awesome stay. Beautiful view, yummy breakfast, friendly staff. The owners were wonderfull... Great bonfires at night with good conversation and laughs. Really homy atmosphere and i miss it already! Thank you african array!!

This place felt like home. The welcome was great, our room was very very spacious with a wardrobe and a private bathroom which had a bathtub and a separate shower. 
The hospitality at this place is class, so friendly and make you feel very comfortable and at home. Dinner is available and so it breakfast and me and my friends had both and they were delicious. 
There is also a kitchen area where you can cook your own food if you wish to.
There is a living room area with a fire place, sofas, TV, games, and dining area. 
The views outside are just priceless and there are different angles for different views and they all look amazing. There is a firepit in the outside seating area too.
I wish I could have stayed here longer and if I was in that area again I would not hesitate to book this place again. 
The hosts were just so lovely! 
On site parking, free wifi, tv in the living room with Netflix.

Stayed a night here while touring the garden route. The view from this place is amazing!! Super chill and cozy atmosphere! Really great food and clean rooms. Definitely recommend this place if you are looking for a hostel to stay in near by!

We had a very nice two nights stay at this hostel with family atmosphere. It was very entertaining to sit by the fire and listen to stories from Vicky and Mathew (the owners) they should do a stand up comedy - very funny 😄

The owners of African Array are AMAZING! They host you from the start as if you are part of the family, they picked us up from Plett and chatted all the way "home". The place has lovely neat rooms with a large lounge and kitchen space were Matthew make the most awesome aged steak you will ever taste! The food is fantastic and the welcome is even more. There is a little walkway to a deck that overlooks a stunning dam and further east the Plett area. All activities can be arranged by this wonderful family who make it their goal to know every little thing about the area. Baz Bus with a shuttle service from their gate is available. A must visit while on the Garden Route!

Absolutely loved staying here. Everyone was so friendly. The cooked food is so tasty! I highly recommend staying here if you have the chance. Just be aware that the location of this place is rather far from the beach and other places but the guys at the lodge will arrange for transfers at a very reasonable price.

I first came to this hostel while doing the garden route. However, the stay was so much fun that after completing the garden route, I went back to Plettenberg just for staying at the hostel another week. 
Its location is amazing, situated very secludedly on a cliff overlooking the SA nature. You’ll see some of the best sunsets ever here. Because of the location, there is a shuttle service to bring you anywhere you want. 
The dorms are up to normal hostel standards and the main house is comfortable. 
By far however, the best part of the stay here has been the amazing hospitality shown by the staff. Yannick’s amazing food and Victor, Guilherme, Dylan, Eva and Tuve’s hospitality make any day or night entertaining at the bar. Bonfires are always burning and drinks are flowing freely. 
All that I can say is that I wish I could stay longer.

Cool place in the middle of nowhere 

We made a booking in 2020 for Dec and due to COVID r regulations we couldn’t come. We then moved it to 2021, the establishment has been on the run telling us that they’re not in “full” operation and cannot take short term stay, we should try again this year December. In then requested for our deposit because it’s been long since we’ve been waiting and they say they don’t have the money cause the money they’re making is to feed their stomachs. They’ve been lying saying  last year the country was in lockdown (I used my international number and card for bookings) so they thought an not SAfrican, after telling them I’ve been in the country and we’ve managed to travel to other bookings we couldn’t go to 2020 due to COVID, they said they’re out of funds! Where is our deposit? We can’t come to the lodge and we can’t get out deposit back! This is ridiculous! We paid R5000 deposit!
