Conway and Natasha are excellent hosts. They provide such good care for guests. One of our group needed some medical help and they were able to advise on a good doctor. Conway remembers the names of all guests. They also arranged airport transfers for a very reasonable price. The place is well cared for and they provide a delicious breakfast. Highly recommend.

The people make the Lucky Bean Guesthouse a wonderful place to stay. Conway was so helpful organising things for us before and during our trip. Our airport taxi pickup by Derrick went smoothly. When we arrived a bit late, we were warmly welcomed, helped to find a great restaurant and shown how to use Uber. Our day trip around Johannesburg with Cecilia was the absolute highlight of our stay. The ladies that served us breakfast were fab too. 
Having now seen the impersonal areas of Rosebank and Sandton where most of the main hotels are, I’m so glad that we opted to stay at the Lucky Bean in Melville. It’s a nice, quiet residential area, within walking distance of a great cafe. We were able to feel like a local and always felt safe. 
Even though it was winter in SA, the weather was warm and we enjoyed sitting around the pool in sunshine. 
For such a lovely experience, it’s excellent value for money.

A perfect stay

My husband and 2 sons (aged 11 and 14) loved staying at the Lucky Bean Guesthouse. We felt safe, welcomed and relaxed. Conway helped us book excellent restaurants every night and recommended tours (Cecilia) which we loved. Conway even arranged our collection from the airport, despite our flights being repeatedly delayed. Lovely breakfasts every morning also. A wonderful start to our family's African adventures!

Wonderful start to our Africa adventure at the Lucky Bean Guesthouse

I could not recommend Lucky Bean highly enough: from the extremely comfortable room and delicious breakfasts, to the kindness of the staff (who, among other things, helped to organise airport transfers) and the loveliness of the garden. It’s perfectly situated for getting around Melville, and for zipping to both Wits University and UJ. 

Perhaps most importantly, though, I stayed there when maintenance was being done on Joburg’s water infrastructure and so much of Melville and surrounds was without water. Not only did we have water at Lucky Bean thanks to clever forward planning (there are tanks and water is bought in), but we were all kept abreast of developments. It made for a reassuring stay.

You can't go wrong staying at the Lucky Bean! the owners, Conway and Natasha, are the most welcoming, helpful and lovely people. They will help with travel arrangements as well as transport, and have great guide recommendations. Their staff are equally helpful, kind and welcoming. Rooms are clean and comfortable, very well appointed with lovely views from each. Highly recommend the Lucky Bean!

Highly recommend the Lucky Bean!

We have been here for two nights. Great service and friendly staff.  It is a cosy and beautiful location to stay. They will give you tips for the best and safest experience in Johannesburg. We will definetly recommend this guesthouse! 5 stars worth!

Great staff

A 4 day stay in this wonderful guesthouse . 
Natasha and Conway are superb hosts providing lots of information and help. 
Great room with views over the city, lovely breakfast. Staff were delightful. We would certainly return again and could recommend this to travellers to Johannesburg

A little gem!

Not only was Lucky Bean nestled in a peaceful garden setting, but we were lucky enough to witness a 'snow setting' on our first day. It was wonderful to see. 
Conway and Natasha, our hosts, openly welcomed us and were so friendly, inviting and helpful. They both provided plenty of assistance in planning our days. One was a tour of J.Burg and Soweto with Cecilia. Be prepared to learn A LOT! Another day was the Hop On, Hop Off bus. Derick was also a driver who completed our transfers. Such a friendly guy.
Feel at home is the art work in the kitchen / dining area and that is how the breakfast chefs Murphy, Sifiso and Juliet made us feel.  We enjoyed their breakfasts and were totally spoilt. These girls are so lovely and great assets to Lucky Bean.
The guest house is walking distance to Melville's cafes, restaurants and shops. We really enjoyed a harvest lunch at 'The Service Station'. On our last night, we treated ourselves to wonderful sunset views and delicious food and drinks at Marble restaurant in Rosebank.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Highly recommended.

Feel at home

Staying at Lucky bean guesthouse has been an excellent experience. The place is great in all terms. Conway is the perfect host and the staff he leads is very professional. Do not hesitate to book at it when travelling to Johannesburg.

A place to stay

Conway, the owner, is very nice and gave us a lot of advices during our stay in his beautiful house, with a beautiful garden and nice swimming pool. The personal is also very friendly and flexible and we thank you all for that. The room for 3 persons is nice but as I said to Conway he should place opaque curtains close to the one person bed as we are used to sleep in darkness. This only detail will not make our experience very pleasant in this nice area close to the 7th street which offers you nice cocktail bars and restaurant.
