My expectations of PL.Outback were very high after readng such excellent reviews on Booking.com.  Usually I scrutinise my accommodation choices and search a wide variety of review sites like Tripadvisor before making my choice.  After reading a few comments about Roza's (Rose's) place and her exceptional service, I booked 3 nights here over my birthday without hesitation as there was only one room left and I didn't want to miss out!

Roza made very prompt and pro-active contact with me via e-mail and reassured me about various issues.  She e-mailed excellent, detailed walking directions to the property from the local bus stop which is just 10 minutes away (we arrived after a 2 hour 45 minute train journey from Olsztyn followed by a 2 hour bus journey from Bialystok in searing heat).

What a joy it was to walk down the driveway of the property and see Roza leap out of her chair and come to the door to greet us.  It is necessary to remove shoes in the hallway and slippers are provided for guests.  This will certainly contribute to how absolutely immaculate the property is in terms of cleanliness.

Roza showed us around the kitchen area which is well equipped with everything you need in terms of appliances and cutlery/crockery.  There is a selection of free tea (earl grey, cranberry and mint, green) and coffee.  There is a guitar, portable fans to borrow for when it's hot (the windows do open but be careful with mosquitoes as only some of the windows have mosquito nets), a bookshelf with a good selection of books, a cd/radio/stereo system with a selection of cds (nice mix of classical and Jean-Michel Jarre!)

The kitchen area leads out onto a beautiful balcony with 4 tables and accompanying chairs.  

Roza took great time in giving us personal recommendations on bicycle routes to take in the surrounding area, she even made a phone call and secured us a tour into the restricted area of the forest with an English speaking guide!) 

She ensured that we had a full and complete understanding of how things work at the property and there are helpful rules/guidelines on the walls of the room if ever in any doubt.

Our room was just so beautiful.  Crisp, clean and bright with oranges and greens.  Poetry and canvasses featuring nature-inspired macro photography adorn the walls, along with references to Australia as Roza spent many years living there.  
She even remembered that it was my birthday and made me a card with a poem and some chocolates!  I was overwhelmed!

The bed was so comfortable, the shower was powerful and hot - everything just felt so luxurious - and we only paid £23 per night for the room!  Our stay was worth ten times that amount.

Along with Roza's outstanding service and hospitality, our lasting memories of PL Outback and indeed of Bialowieza as a place will be of the incessant sound of crickets (at least I think they were crickets!).  You really are in the heart of nature here with all of its glorious sights, sounds and smells.  You are just a 10 minute walk from the main entrance to Bialowieza Forest.  Here, you can rent bikes cheaply (about £1 an hour or £6 for 24 hours!!!), grab a cool drink or an ice cream or have a meal at the decent restaurant.

There is a useful small grocery shop nearby and a larger supermarket a little further away (20 minute walk or short bike ride).

To anyone contemplating visiting this region of Poland but perhaps worrying it's too "remote" for them, let me put your mind at rest.  We don't drive, we arrived by public transport with a rucksack each and it was easy and it was beautiful.

We can't wait to find an excuse to return!!
