What a little gem Kabaira Beach Hideaway is. I could not be more thankful to Hannah, Lyn and Bert for the wonderful hospitality and pre-trip communication, and of course Helen and the kitchen staff for the wonderful food over the space of my stay. 

It's easy to take the fuss-free option of staying in Kokopo, or Rabaul town itself, when coming to East New Britain, but for a far more enjoyable and PNG village experience I could not recommend Kabaira more highly. 

Whether you come to spend time on or in the water, or you're just as happy sitting under the Haus Win and reading, Kabaira has something for everyone and is more of a home-away-from-home than a resort. 

I will be back!

Fantastic - Boina Tuna

When we decided to go to PNG we did lots of research and found this place suited us best. We were looking for something small and quiet. We were picked up by Hannah from the airport and she asked if we wanted to go to a local event on our way to Kabaira. We said yes. It was for the new governor and while we were there we treated like VIPs and there were choirs and dancing and drums, all in a lovely setting by the water. Then we went to Kabaira. It was better than expected. A beautiful setting, clean and comfortable accomodation with hot water and fans and mosquito nets, facing the water. Lovely communal lounge area catching the breeze, from which we did see some dolphins one morning. The owners took us on a lovely boat trip. It was beautiful. Great snorkelling just off the beach. The food I cannot talk more highly about it. Lots of choices and changing day to day. A gluten free diet was well taken care of. We would like to say thank you to Hannah, Lynn, Burt, Moline and the rest of the staff.

A beautiful spot

Kabaira is my base and home in PNG. I love the family, staff - who is like family too, and the view. The best food@PNG, hands down! I highly recommend peeps to go stay at Kabaira and enjoy the calmness.

Words don't do this little spot justice, staying at Kabaira Beach Hideaway creates a feeling of utter bliss. 
It's a slice of paradise with miles of volcanic black sand, colourful reefs home to a cornucopia of sea creatures, no engines out on the water, just a few cars passing a day, not a single motorbike, very little tourists, beaming smiles on the local villagers. It's rural and a simple life for most but it's happy as the vegetation is lush and sea bountiful. The area is unspoilt and it's simply beautiful. 
If you are the kind of person who complains about road quality I'm not sure what you are doing in PNG, it's part of the package, adds to the experience and in a way is one of the barriers to over-development, creating a more peaceful setting.

Amenity wise the guesthouse is spot on, excellent food cooked fresh every day by the local chefs, honesty bar that is well stocked with a variety of drinks, great hosts Lynn & Hannah who take great care of your every need and make you feel right at home. Your laundry is done daily as part of the package and you'll find frangipani flowers decorating your freshly made bed each day.
No air conditioning is not a problem as it cools nicely in the evening with lovely breezes and fans if you need.
The local staff Mollyn and Leonie took
brilliant care of us accompanying us each day, snorkelling and to a local church to hear enchanting singing. 
Equally we had a fab time travelling around in the van and getting into island life with Stanley & William, the resorts transport providers. Altogether a fabulous team that really made our stay! 
I do wonder whether this what Bali was like 100 years ago, before mass tourism spoiled the island. Finding places like this is really rare.
All in all- a super base to explore an incredible island that literally has something for everyone, go!

Stunning Tropical Idyll, Highly Rated!

We loved our time at Kabaira beach hideaway. The staff were a treat and the food was delicious. Thank you Helen. Our washing was done daily and magically returned each afternoon. The relaxed atmosphere was great.
The accommodation is fairly basic but is not advertised as anything else. We ate as a group & we were fortunate to meet some wonderful people who made our stay even more interesting & enjoyable. Hannah is happy to help organize trips and excursions.
