We stayed two nights at Casa Lucia: the first one when we arrived in Managua and the last one, before our departure. This was the perfect start and finish to our trip. Claudio and his family have created an amazing environment at their place. We felt safe and at home with them and got lots of practical advice to our trip.  This family loves to travel and have a deep knowledge of Nicaragua and its culture.

Casa Lucia is well located if you want to walk to one or two restaurants nearby, which is very convenient considering that Managua did not look like a walking-friendly type of city. We arrived late on a Saturday and it was great to just be able to walk safely to a restaurant instead of having to get other transportation. Claudio also made himself available to give us recommendations and help us with whatever we needed before our arrival and during our stay. It's a very personal type of service and we have gained a lot by having long chats with Claudio's dad and sister. 
On Sunday before we left early, Claudio's mum cooked nacatamales for us, which is a typical Sunday brunch dish. There was also eggs and gallo pinto. Our first contact with Nicaraguan food was amazing! We also had them on our last breakfast in Nicaragua. A perfect goodbye.

The rooms are modest but clean. Do not expect any luxuries. There is air-conditioning and a private bathroom. I think that there was no hot water, however I do recall that it was so warm in Managua that actually cold water was more appealing.



The best  start and end to our stay in Nicaragua

I loved staying in Casa Lucia and truly getting the Nica vibe. Claudio and Margarita are the best host you could probably find, this mother-son combo is one of a kind and full of entreprenurial energy. Casa Lucia also has Chocolate factory on site (which is great top level chocolate i bought some myself to take home) and the best coffee i tried in Nicaragua. Claudio helped me plan my trip  in nica, i was able to get the most of my trip thanks to his advice, he knows everything. Thanks Claudio for all your tips and showing me the true face of Nicaragua. I love Casa Lucia they made me feel part of the family, i also liked playing with Chewy and Lava , i miss them already.

This made my trip to Nicaragua!

My son and I stayed here on a couple day visit in October 2017. We had no idea what to expect and were beyond pleased with the accommodation and the host. Claudio and his mom went out of their way to make us feel like a part of the family, additionally we hired Claudio as our guide for the stay which just made the entire experience more fun. I will definitely return here...I LOVE THIS PLACE. 

I would highly recommend this location if you're headed to Nicaragua, even if you just spend a night there on your way to another location in the country, the information you'll gain in a 30 minute visit with Claudio will benefit you during the rest of your trip.

Peaceful location in the city center.

I only stayed for one night and must return for more. Claudio was amazing and our day trip so memorable as his passion for his country is incredible 😀 Very clean and comfortable home in safe area. Pick up from airport was great. Claudio makes the best coffee and has so much local knowledge to share!


Wish to stay longer

This is a wonderful place to stay in Managua. The hosts, Claudio and Margarita, were friendly and helpful, and were a pleasure to talk to. They gave us tips on restaurants and other things in the area and Nicaragua in general. We stayed for two nights. The location is nice and safe and the B&B is clean and welcoming. We had activities booked very early both mornings so unfortunately did not get to experience the breakfast, but they made us coffee before we left one day, which was delicious and much appreciated. We also booked airport shuttles through Casa Lucia and Claudio waited for us at the airport even though our flight was delayed for over an hour. I would definitely recommend this place over a larger hotel that would be more impersonal. A minor downside was that you have to ring a doorbell to be let back in through the gate as the gate is usually closed, and some other guests returned at around 2 AM one night. The sound of the bell and the noise they made coming inside woke us up because sound travels easily through the courtyard and house. Other than that, it was a great experience!

We loved Casa Lucia!

We stayed at Casa Lucia for 3 nights. We had a room with two large beds and a private bathroom in the room. Breakfast each morning was very good and you had your choice of several options. We hired Claudio for two days to guide us. The first day we saw the sights, sounds and tastes of Managua. That night we went up on the volcano and saw the lava lake. The next day he took us on some great hikes, places where there were no other tourists to be found but wonderful views. We can't wait to go back and explore more of the country with him and stay with his great family! The airport pickup and drop-off made everything very easy. Some of the best restaurants in the city, along with several places for a quick bite, are within a short walk of the house.

Great Lodging and Experiences

I find it hard to believe reviews of this place and wonder just what sort of standard those reviewers are used to. We stayed one night and cancelled a later stay due to the grim, poorly decorated, cobwebby, and sparsely furnished room.. 2 beds  and a stand...with grimy opaque window with broken louvres.No chair ,no lampshade on bare bulb centre light, no bedside light, no lock on bathroom door (had to shove an old Xmas mat against it) Back yard was grotty with chained up barking dog, and another happy dog running around the place.Photos really do not accurately show this place.
We travelled for a month all over the country and this was the worst accommodation we encountered.
Positives were the good breakfast  and some interesting chat with Claudio.
