We had paid by credit card in February 2020  for our April 2020 stay at Dar Souran. Due to Covid they were closed, which of course I understood. However, I've been trying to get my money back, of which they kept promising me a refund. I've received nothing and they are not replying to my emails.

Do not prepay for your room in case they close again, they won't refund your money even when they say they will! Very disappointed.

Kept my money, but no stay

It's hard to actually put into words just how abysmally horrible my experiences were here. But allow me to try...
Somewhere at the crossroads of a bad Bill Murray film and National Lampoon's Vacation, we have the Dar Souran...
Prior to my arrival, despite me reconfirming my reservation several times, they asked me to reconfirm. Odd...  
When I arrived out of the 8 rooms total only two were sold that night. I thought they might have been sold out.
My driver (from Chefcahauan) arrived just outside the Medina. The hotel sent two men to meet me and take me back to the property, which was about a 5 minute walk. One man carried one of my bags (older man with brown jacket) and the other (wearing traditional clothes) just kept harassing me. He kept going on about going to his friends shop, being my tour guide and in general, talking nonstop trying to hustle me out of any money he could!
He was clearly associated with the other man (with the brown jacket) who carried my bag. If they were not connected, why did the man carrying my bag not shew him away?!
When I arrived at the hotel I informed the girl working the desk about him. She said she would look into it.
Breakfast was to be served at 8:30 but since I had to leave the hotel at 9, asked if I could have mine at 8.
She said she would look into that too...
As I went out for lunch the old guy who was harassing me upon check in resurfaced. Turns out he was just waiting outside.
I'm fairly good with eschewing pesky hustlers like him but this guy was next level. I literally could not shake him. Imagine two soccer players feet while attempting to gain control of the ball!
I came back to the hotel about 5 and decided to just call it a night. 
I checked again with the new person working at the desk about having breakfast 30 min earlier. She too said she would look into that.
Hmm, I see a theme here...
I decided to have Moroccan tea on the roof before I retired to my room.
Lipton tea was what I was brought.
The older man working in the evening told me that they don't have Moroccan tea.
I stayed at a total of 5 properties during my 9 day trip and the very first thing I was brought---upon check in---was Moroccan mint tea. Here you get nothing but the room key. The evening shift man told me that is was NOT possible to serve me breakfast at 8 am. Keep in mind, out of the 8 rooms they had, there was ONLY one other room occupied! He told me this was because he needed to buy bread in the morning and the stores don't open til 8 or so.
However, I was served crepes, Lipton tea and asked if I wanted eggs, so bread was totally nonexistent until afterwards.
This guy had such an aggressive, intense inhospitable demeanor that I didn't even want to interact with him. A blank stare with single word responses such as "NO" was the theme with him...
There were candles in the room (which had been lit) so I asked if I could borrow a lighter---which he had, but he said "NO". No matter what I asked him it was a herculean effort. I finally just went to my room and 'relaxed'.
Since I had a great time the previous week prior to arriving in Tangier and at the Dar Souran, I simply laughed it off...
The hotel itself is fairly OK---except for the shard of GLASS in my bathroom I almost stepped on barefoot, coming out of the shower!
Almost ALL of the lights (to common spaces) were turned off...
Saving on the the electric bill at the expense of a paying guest!
This place DEFINITELY has the 'WOW' factor...
Sadly, just not in the right direction...

Highly recommended this delightful friendly French owned Dar has been designed by a young Moroccan decorator in excellent taste and fine detail. Owned by Paul with manageress Jihane, it is efficiently run. Breakfast served on the third floor terrace 8.30-10.30 with linguist Momo at the helm speaking 8 languages! Lift. A rare plus in the Médina. Safe location in the heart of the medina. 24 hour service. Beautiful comfortable lounges to linger in on first and second floors. Bottle of water offered. Fridge for guests on first floor in guest kitchen. Near Grand cafe on Petit Socco. Payment can be with Euros. Weak wifi at night. Help with luggage to get a taxi to the airport. Home from home. I will return! 

Gem of a homely Dar ‘hidden’ in the medina 

The food and service - 5 stars amazing!!!!  It is quite a hike to get here, this was only a second city on our trip, and we were introduced to the challenges of staying inside the medina here - steep difficult walks with luggage.  I absolutely love Morocco - but definitely pack light!!!  We had a wonderful supper and breakfast here and the views from the terrace are fantastic.  The rooms are old world luxury.  This was actually the only riad we stayed at with an elevator, but it is super small and there was an argument between the manager and the staff when we arrived - and that really is the only reason I give this place a 4 star, it seemed like the manager didn't treat the staff very well.

Interesting stay

We got a large room for not much money and were so happy here.  The decor is lovely, but it's the people that make this place - they were SUPER helpful, even did our laundry for us for free.  The breakfast was basic - good - eggs and fresh juice bread and croissant - served on a terrace with nice sea views.  The location, a bit hard to find at first - is super central - very close to the Petit Socco.  I would come back here in a heartbeat.  It was a bit loud at night from our room but nothing horrible - mostly neighbors watching TV sort of thing - and I think this is just normal "medina life".  We loved the towel warming racks in the bathroom and the overall feeling of this place.  It feels like staying in a friends house.

Little Gem in The Medina

This is a beautiful boutique hotel in the Medina (old city) of Tanger. Lovely place, well furnished and very clean premises & rooms. Personnel is absolutely friendly and always helpful. Breakfast (served on the roof terrace) is good. However, Dar Souran does have one major drawback you need to be aware about: noise. As the hotel is connected on two sides to the neighbouring buildings some rooms can become very noisy. I do recommend staying at Dar Souran but make absolutely sure to get a room that does not share a wall with the neighbouring buildings. This is especially important if you are a light sleeper.

Great place but can be very noisy!!!

We arranged a 12 day tour of Morocco and planned two days in Tangier first. Out guiding service recommended Dar Souran and we have been very pleased. It is difficult to find and we would highly recommend that if coming from airport you arrange for Dar Souran to arrange a taxi. They will then meet you on the street and help you with your bags to find the riad. It is a lovely place with beautiful doors to each room. Wonderful sitting areas on each level and a delightful rooftop terrace for viewing the Medina, sipping our Scotch in the evening and for a simple but delicious breakfast. This included chocolate croissant, freshly squeezed OJ, and eggs. They recommend a nice restaurant and a guide for the day. The rooms ave a few minor quirks and if your tastes run towards five star hotels then this is probably not for you. It was definitely the right choice for us

Nice Oasis in Medina

We stayed at this hotel during the off season.  It is perfectly located in the old medina.   Mohammed will do everything to make sure your stay is wonderful.  An excellent breakfast was made to order on the rooftop overlooking the city.  Comfortable and clean.

Perfect location and accommodation!

This was our first trip to Morocco, and first city, first Riad. The quality of the rooms is excellent, and Mohammed the chief "fixer"/cook was a real find. First night Moroccan wines, both red and white on the terrace, overlooking the bay at sunset! Wonderful first night experience. Big rooms, european equipped with lots of cedar storage (armoire), and convenient safe. The Terrace is also where breakfast is served, which was also wonderful - lots of coffee or mint tea, and omlet with the usual breads/butter. We arrived late on a Sunday, and needed recommendations - Lonely Planet "recommended" was closed sadly said Mohammed, but he made two other recommendations - we chose the France Hotel - a short walk. 

Be prepared for the trip through the Medina as Dar Soura is a bit off the beaten path -  
the Petite Socco by about 200-300 feet. Maps are useless and, in my view lead to "guides." I used Google Maps on my iphone exclusively in Tangier, Fes and Marrakech with complete coverage, in even the smallest allies. However, the best is that it's in a great location to tour the Medina. Since it's in the north end, it's close to the harbor and the views to Spain. Close to La Nabob restaurant - best in Tangier; also close to the Kasbah Museum of Mediterranean History. A wonderful location. 

Room service was excellent and unobtrusive. Mohammed also offered to purchase our first class train tickets to Fes. The Riad also provided a taxi from the airport, and to the train station; very easy and convenient - 30-50Dhm for two couples.

Great choice in Tangier; excellent service

The location is a hidden Gem.  Didn’t know what to expect when walking in a maze to get to the hotel but it was a great surprise.  The staff was very helpful and Mohamed was amazing.  It’s right in the middle of everything.
