We love to stay in the historic center of the cities we visit. Trocadero Suites the rooms that are part of a 20's or 30's house that have been converted into suites of different sizes. Ours was the smallest and it was roomy, clean and had a refrigeratoor and coffee making facilities. A walk in ample shower with plenty of hot water,too. It is very accesible to many of the tourist attractions that are situated 3 blocks away. The bus is available right on the same street, and we also walked to the plaza mayor which is about 8 blocks away. Walking gave us a view of the old charming homes around the hotel, avenues that are filled with people listening to music, biking, etc.Trocadero Rooms and Suites are part of the Ganz Hotel properties. They offer stays in lovely homes that have been restored with respect to their historical value.

Our suite within the Trocadero was set in a courtyard, in the centre of which were a selection of flowers, plants and a lime tree in fruit. Later in our stay I was able to make limonada with fresh limes - incredible. The suite was an early 20th Century colonial style and comprised a super-king size bed, bathroom and 'kitchenette' which was actually a mini-fridge, coffee maker and cutlery. Although some of the furniture had seen better days and the wiring was a bit dodgy, we were totally enchanted with the whole apartment - especially the shower, a the water was very soft and smelled like it came from a mountain spring. We later learned that it came from nearby Lago Chapala.It's worth noting that the Mexican sewage system cannot handle toilet paper and so it must be discarded in the bin.Location-wise, the apartment is situated in a gated complex in a wealthy area of the city. We were around 20-30 minutes' walk away from the centre of town, and were surrounded by bars and restaurants.We were fortunate enough to have our own 'tour guide' in the form of my sister who lives in Guad. The local people are very friendly and like to chat!Overall, despite not being exactly as described, the Trocadero was perfect for us - we loved not having to walk through a reception and being able to come and go as we pleased in our 'own' space. The suite and surrounding gardens and other buildings had so much character and a wonderful relaxed atmosphere. We'd definitely stay again.

Beautiful boutique apartment

Conveniently located and really clean

We stayed here for three nights on first arriving in Guadalajara. Although on a fairly main ‘calle’ - Lopez Cotilla - and being subjected a fair amount of road noise in the form of trucks - overall, the suites were very good value. We stayed in number 24, on the road side of the garden and away from the bar next door of which, despite being in there moments before with the music up quite loud, we could hear nothing from our room. The room itself was very rustic, clean and comfortable.

The hotel is situated in what we thought was a pretty good part of a very good city. Lots of bars and restaurants, shops, parks and plazas with very walkable back streets. It felt very safe and hospitable like most of the Mexico we have seen so far. You can easily walk into El Centro in 30 minutes if not less.

The only two annoyances which would be easy to fix: 1) there is no notice on the gate advising guests that they are required to check-in at the sister Hotel Villa Ganz about a 20 minute walk down the road (and which we’d just passed in our taxi) and 2) the maintenance staff tend to start work quite early (for holiday-makers, anyway) - before 9am - which can be a bit off-putting if you’re jet-lagged or want a sleep-in.

We moved from The Trocadero to The Villa Ganz, not because of any dissatisfaction with “The Troc” but because we’d promised ourselves a treat after a lot of hard work. You can read a review of Villa Ganz elsewhere on this site.
