Excellent
709 reviewsMy wife and I stayed at the Santana for 2 weeks in June 2024. We enjoyed it so much that we went back in March 2025 for a further 2 weeks. We have gone with Jet2 Holidays each time. The best thing about the hotel is definitely the staff. They are so friendly and efficient. Eager to please without being overbearing. We really can’t praise them enough. The hotel is well located in Qawra, close to the bus station, beach, bars, restaurants and shops. There are supermarkets, a pharmacy and a walk-in doctor’s clinic very nearby. Everything in the resort is in easy walking distance. The hop-on hop-off buses stop right outside the hotel. See Anny, the Supreme Travel rep, in the lobby of the hotel if you wish to go on any trips. She is really helpful! The rooms we have stayed in have been clean, spacious and comfortable. A small fridge and tea/coffee making facilities too. Complete with balcony. The hotel doesn’t have sea views, but that was not an issue for us. The meals in the restaurant are buffet style with masses of choice. Hot and cold starters, maybe 8 main dishes, desserts etc. Beer, wine and soft drinks are available in the restaurant at no extra cost (serve yourself) - a real bonus! There are some Maltese specialities like rabbit stew, if you want to try them. If not, there is a wide range of meat and vegetarian dishes, pasta, soups etc. Also salads, cheese and biscuits. We really enjoyed the breakfasts as well as the dinners. The rooftop pool was closed in March as the weather is around 18C max at that time. There is a nice indoor pool in the spa area - although there are no changing facilities there. There is a bar/cafe serving snacks throughout the day. Very reasonable prices and tasty food. At night, the Zazen courtyard garden is open, with a nice bar area. There is entertainment of a good standard, maybe 3 or 4 times a week, even in March. The pool bar is closed in March but reopens when the rooftop pool opens (April/May time). There were some issues with the lifts, with one not working very often while we were there. I understand that the hotel is closing in November 2025 for a refurb, re-opening in April 2026. There are plans for an a la carte restaurant. Hopefully they will fix the temperamental lift or replace it during the refurbishment. There is plenty to do in Qawra itself but there is so much to explore in Malta and its sister islands of Gozo and Comino. The Maltese islands have wonderful history, culture and architecture. I am a keen photographer and love Malta for that reason, as well as many others. Malta is very compact but densely populated. The roads can be very busy. I was glad that I had not hired a car. Bolt taxis (download the app) are cheap, reliable and a great way to get around. We found all of the staff really helpful and friendly. It is difficult to mention everyone. Particular thanks go to Sujith, Food and Beverage Manager, and Anish in the dining room. Also Binod, Manisha, Arun, Antony, Kumar, Prashanth, Dibakar, Francesca, Rion, Guiseppe, Mithun, Milena, Sebastian, Lilla, Rabina and Janga. Sorry if I have missed anyone. We would thoroughly recommend the Hotel Santana.
