The whole experience was terrible. The reception was terrible. Flirting with a Bangla worker in front of guest. Spoke Tamil in front of guest. Required RM50 deposit whereby I have already paid the full amount via Agoda. 
The Indian reception girl was busy talking oh her mobile and asked the Bangla worker who was just a cleaner to deal with me. Asking me RM52 in cash for the deposit. I asked if I could be via card and he said No. 
Feeling exhausted after a long journey from KL, all I wanted to do was to be in my room to have a shower. When I reached the room, no towels were present. I went down again asking for my towels, and the Bangla guy told me to come at 10.00pm. I demanded I get my towels now and asked for my deposit receipt.

Horrendous Experience at Georgetown Hotel, Penang

If you still have choices, avoid this hotel.
The place is okay compared to the charges or room rate. What seems to be the problem is the attitude of management of the hotel. They are too many hidden charges after checking in. Avoid this!

I always travel to Penang every month for the past year and I sometimes stayed in this hotel. Most of the receptionist of the hotel were always helpful. 

However, during my last stay  in August 2023 I was shocked and baffled at the newest regulations hotel has enforced.

Your late checkout will be a subject to charge per minute weather or not you are there first time guest or the frequent visitors. And your friends will not be  allowed in the premise they even posted the regulations at the elevator. 

If you feel to do whatever they want you to do during your stay, they will accuse you often criminal violation, yes it is serious.

To make your stay in Penang pleasant, you must avoid staying here if you have choices.

By the way the reviews on any online platforms you have red before were left and written by the guests (most of them) who were forced to write positive review in exchange of the late checkout charge and even withdrawal of the criminal chart they have report to the police.

Even small mistake is made, you will encounter the real disaster during your trip.

Therefore to be safe, avoid staying here.

This hotel is the real monster and disaster, AVOID being here if you don't want to end up with criminal charge by the hotel.

extremely dirty, moudly and unsafe. The bed sheets were grey with dirt and had bodily fluids on them. The mouldy AC wasnt safe to use causing an asthma attack.

Verbally abusive manager - threatens the Police on his customers. Disgusting

The most horrendous hotel ever DO NOT VISIT

Hotel:
I've booked a hostel in Georgetown before I found out Tune Hotel has a special rate for weekly & monthly. I cancelled the hostel & try the Tune Hotel, Jalan Burmah at RM64.30/night/queen bedroom with window, fan, aircond, toilet. Booked by phone call, not online booking. Surprisingly the size of room is enough for 2 pax, has space for solat, got hair dryer. I end up 7 nights there. Turn out that most of 2-3 stars hotels here are around RM100++/night, hostel with  sharing toilets RM45++/night. Lucky me. Don't forget to pay RM2/night as intructed by the Pulau Pinang government.

Self-laundry:
10 minutes walking from the hotel, I found a 24-hour self-laundry at Jalan Argyll. Laundry Hub Georgetown. It uses dobi coins. RM7 for 7 coins for 14 kg normal washing (30 minutes), RM4 for 4 coins for dryer (30 minutes). Bring your own washing net so you can put all underwears inside. I'm satisfied with the cleanliness.

Halal food:
For Muslims, the New Theme World food court next to the Tune Hotel is not focusing on halal food but I think rice set by Kerala Banana Leaves can satisfy our hunger for lunch. Ask for vegetarian set.

I also tried Simple Cafe nearby Jalan Argyll, the halal, Malay food small restaurant. The porridge & ikan asam are quite delicious, 8/10. As if I was having home-cooked meals. But they close every weekend. 

For breakfast I saw a long que along one of the road. I followed the line, tried roti telur, roti canai, kari with 2 big chunky of meat. I'm not a fan of curry so I rate it as 5/10.

At the end of Jalan Burmah I found a special food outlet, The Community. They sell kombucha, vegetarian pasta, puddings & other things. As the seller told me all F&B are supplied by single mothers, disabled community & poor people, I tried & have no regrets. Delicious. They have yoga class every Wednesday, 7-8 pm. Let's support domestic tourism again!

Just few minutes from The Community, I noticed many people flocked into a bread small shop. Driven by curiosity, I joined the que & found out they were waiting for hot, big apple pie, pineaple pie, cheese tart, egg tart & other fresh pastries. Mind you all are in front of the cashier, other assisstants will help you to pick your pastries. I bought what others have bought. Delicious, warm, big, cheap.

Location:
Walking distance to everywhere. Strategic. 10 minutes walking distance from the KOMTAR. Don't left your small umbrella, water, prayer mat,telekung. Surau & masjid is everywhere. 

Friendly people here. Ask for help if lost.

Long stay room hotel, self-laundry, halal food outlets  in Georgetown, Penang

The worst thing is that the noise is mainly caused by the reception staff. It is a low grade hotel so I had brought earplugs just in case there would be noise. Room is otherwise clean and aircon/water heater ok good working condition. Hardly any car parking space despite being advertised as a hotel with parking. This is a serious consideration. I most likely will be checking out other options for my next trip to Penang. 

晚上有点吵，最糟糕的是噪音主要是接待人员造成的。 这是一家低档酒店，所以我带了耳塞以防万一会有噪音。 房间干净，空调/热水器好工作状态。 尽管被宣传为带停车位的酒店，但几乎没有任何停车位。 这是一个严肃的考虑因素。 我很有可能会为我下次去槟城旅行时查看其他选项。



A bit noisy at night...

The photos will tell u the condition. They should at least have a maintenance for the room to provide a comfortable stay for the customer. Poor management. No other word to describe except POOR. Speechless.

Poor condition.... 

I have stayed at this hotel for over 5 years when the owner managed this hotel. Two years ago he decided to lease the hotel. Under the new management maintenance was poor but the staff were hard working and courteous and polite. They decided to end the lease last year and a new company took over the lease. Under this new management, during a period of six months, all the old staff resigned due to pressure from the management. Even though the maintenance have been done, it is still not perfect. As I got a room on the ground floor next to the reception, I experience a lot of noise until past midnight. Even reprimanding the staff in the open. When I approach the management, they denied it and gave an excuse that it was not them. During this stay, there was no WIFI and I was given a lot of excuses. As a long stay customer, I had enough and the next day I cancel my stay and check out. I will never stay there again.

Up Date on my review done 5 years ago.

Checked-in and later after lunch got back to hotel and was greeted by one staff who was overly friendly and asking lots of personal question, of course we can choose to ignore it bit ot was still very uncomfortable. Out for dinner and suddenly received a missed call and whatsapp by this particular staff which we recognise based on the whatsapp photo. Went back to sleep and next day early morning around 7am, we was woken up due to our door being open but luckily we have the door latch on so he didnt manage to  open the door. This is really scary as we do not know why he open our door without permission. Still receive call from this staff after checked out  so finally block his contact. My advice is for solo female traveller, please think twice on staying here unless they managed their staff properly. Until today, my sister and I are still being haunted by the fact that we dont know what is the reason for the staff who wanted to enter our room and we could only thank god that nothing happened to us that day. 

Not Safe for Solo Female Traveller!!!

Maybe we were tired after our travels & tour.  Must admit the quick action of the counter...just that the 2 lifts are older but still functioning & safe.
Room 1612 comes with a queen size double bed, suitable for couples.
But it was the quietness that surprises us, with the traffic running beside it.
It was a soothing & comfortable night stay.  The equipment within are simple & provided but the TV (Singer branded), don't have sound coming from all channels.
Good thing, our main purpose was a quiet rest.
Another that this Hotel could improve were the Breadfast the next morning.  I can't be sure how many pieces of (RED) rubber bands I have eaten, that came from the chicken Red curry.  I took 3 pictures to illustrate the length of the rubber band stretching the full pointed length of a FORK.  We took another latitude wise & another as its original in the curry.  
Told it to the staff to let the chef know, but Alas he wasn't interested or not even an apology or better to let the Chef know about these rubberbands within the curry & or remove them from the counter...... BUT NO.!!! Nothing Doing.  We were totally surprise., because any other Hotel staff would immediately inform the manageress.
