Like many older places in VTE, it has faults that you are bound to see on other reviews, but if you can tolerate these, the hotel has a good atmosphere about it and the central courtyard with fish pond is a great place to relax, especially at breakfast time. Hengboun Street is also well situated for navigating city with a few good restaurants and night spots nearby, plus the best bookshop in town run by an ex British diplomat and anthropologist.

Good for solo travelers or a group. Hotel was kept tidy and is in a prime location. The staff were very friendly and sorted out any problems. Rooms were spacious and the air-conditioning was excellent. Because of its prime location, the hotel boasts easy access to many sight seeing sights and Laos nightlife. 

Value for money : )

The Lao hotel was my first destination in Laos and it was a pleasure to enter the well located room on the first floor.  Large room with comfortable bed, good air-conditioning, fridge, table and chairs, and a well located balcony to sit outside and enjoy the ambience of this location.  Bathroom is well located but baths could do with some re-enamelling - would love a bath but not when tub is so stained!
Staff is helpful and always return a smile.  Breakfast included, gets a bit monotonous after awhile, but enjoy sitting down by the large fish pool full of writhing catfish, and watching the cats play and the other guests.  However, be careful of slipping if the boards are wet.
Easy walking distance to major sights, including the Mekong and surrounds, but far enough away from the busiest roads.  Great restaurants in same street, plus many more at an easy walk away. 
Very good value for the price.

Value for money hotel

Great location, good value

I found the staff to be very good considering what they are given to represent.  This hotel has certainly seen better days and the room I was in was well past due.  Wifi was good and food as well.  Enjoyed the center courtyard very much but yes, bring the bug spray.  The location cannot be beat really, quiet and close to everything needed.  Excellent shops and nightspots very close.

As Expected

On the positive side:
Convenient location. Good wi-fi. Many English language channels on the TV.
Friendly staff. Walk in rate (without breakfast) $21 USD.

The negative:
The negative reviews here are accurate and justified; the hotel is outdated and in a desperate need of a remodel or at least a thorough cleaning. There is a garden of sorts in the center of the facility which is infested with mosquitos. The rate on Booking.com is much too high. They charge a four percent service fee to pay with a credit card.
