Sengkeo Guesthouse

I prefer roosters to techno music, and came out here after one night in a more central spot -- and then extended my stay, because it felt so nice to be here. The family is lovely, the volunteer wonderful to chat with. 

It's a quiet and relaxing place to stay, and I really enjoyed it. The room is basic and comfortable and had everything I needed -- a good enough bed and bedding, a towel, a nice bench and bar to put/hang my things, a private loo with a hot water shower, a table out front facing the pretty garden, a nice warm light for reading once it got dark, workable wifi, water bottle refills to cut down on plastic. 

I'd warmly recommend it.

Loved this guesthouse. The family that run it are very welcoming and take good care of you whilst you are there. Very friendly and didn't mind me extending my room at the last minute. 
If you don't like farm animals then maybe not your cuppa, bit i loved walking out my room and a random cow being there, or chickens.
Free tea, coffee and water in the mornings.
The rooms are clean and tidy and is perfect if you don't want to be right in the middle of the party scene of Vang Vieng. Saying that, its only a five minute walk so your not far from the fun either.

My wife and I booked last minute to be sure we had a place to stay without having to go door to door upon arrival in Veng Vieng and Songkeo Guesthouse turned out great.  The owner spoke perfect English (having lived in Canada for 16 years) and was very helpful with all our needs.  I had a tear on my good pair of hiking shorts and the owners wife let me us her personal sewing machine in their family area to repair it.  The location is about an 5 - 10 minutes walk (if you walk slow and look into the shops)  to the main area of town. The room (#10) was basic with a Queen size bed (A/C was optional), but a little noisy from the roaming, free range chickens, but that is something every place has in this part of Laos.

Such a nice place to stay

Last minute booking turns out great.

Prices quoted on Booking.com are in US dollars. The owner was using an inflated figure based on his cock and bull story of requiring money for some such reason. Only 200 odd kip per dollar but this deceptive practice is deplorable by standards acceptable to most people.

A typical run down Laos Guesthouse  with the garden tended by the squad of roosters at hand to greet one most times of the day.

Vang Vieng is and has been suffering a downturn of budget western travellers who are voting with their feet.

The rooms are clean and the host friendly enough but then you would not be in business if you were not.

I feel 70000 kip a night would be a fair value of a room here so if you are considering here maybe a few more dollars will see a much higher standard without trying too hard. 

Imaginative Exchange Rate

It's a great shame about this place because it could be a really nice place to stay. A 10 minute walk form the bars and noise,in its own courtyard.The place has been neglected and looks in need of some TLC and quite possibly some funds. Sengkeo, the owner, is involved with a couple volunteer projects which appear to be very worthy causes, he can help facilitate that.
