Of the two Saruni properties we stayed at, this was by far our favourite and it was entirely due to the staff.

From the moment you arrive, you aren’t just made to feel a part of their family, you are part of it. The staff truly cares about you and ensuring you have an amazing time. 

We couldn’t recommend this property more. Our guides were incredible, we saw pretty much every animal possible and had an overall great time. 

Couple items of note - this is “a camp” in that the shower is outside and there may be lizards, spiders, voyeuristic monkeys around while you bathe… 

The food is very good but the portions are huge and the menu is tailored towards adults. I’d recommend discussing the menus ahead of time and asking for half portions or to take away a course.

Home away from home in Samburu

Saruni Samburu Lodge is a one-of-a-kind experience. Located high on a ridge just outside the Samburu Reserve in an adjacent conservancy, it definitely feels remote and wild. It has sort of a Sedona vibe. Rooms are spacious and overlook a valley where a man-made watering hole can bring in wildlife from miles around in the dry season. 

But dry was not an issue during our trip -- the November short rains were anything but "short" this year with unexpected flooding and the park roads turned to mud tracks.  Worth it tho as the animals, especially the elephants, were very happy with the lush green vegetation after several years of drought.  

Staff was fantastic, overseen by Benson, who went out of his way on several occasions to get us settled (we were relocated here after Saruni Rhino was flooded) and connected to the right people to get to the Save the Elephants research station and the Reteti Sanctuary.  Food was excellent.  Guides were outstanding -- thanks Manuel and Biko!

One of a Kind -- Among One of a Kinds!

Our safari vacation with Saruni lodges was truly an amazing experience, and our stay at Saruni Samburu was a highlight.  

The lodge is absolutely gorgeous, with unbelievable views at every vantage point.  We stayed in the family villa, which was very spacious and included two ensuite bedrooms, each with their own outdoor showers which we loved, and three large patios from which we had a panoramic views over the valley below.  We enjoyed morning coffee and afternoon drinks on the patio, always seeing wildlife down below and watching the sunset.  And the infinity pools were a treat to take in views and relax between game drives.

The main dining and reception area and the fire pit were great places to connect after our days’ adventures.  And the food and drinks were delicious – from the three course meals at the lodge to the large spreads on our bush breakfasts and lunches, we ate very well.  

But beyond the excellent location and amenities, it was truly the service and people that stood out at Saruni Samburu.  We were cared for at every instance, with Simon looking after our needs at the lodge and Nicole never being far, joining us around the fire and taking us on a neat scorpion safari.  Our guides Jomi and Alfonso were fantastic, the best! – we saw and learned so much with them.  From the moment we were picked up at the airstrip, they tracked and spotted unique animals and landscapes.  They worked so hard to ensure we saw the best of Samburu, and it is truly an amazing area with great sights.  The number of elephants and giraffes were unmatched, and it was a pleasure to see and learn about the Samburu Special Five.  Our day trip to Reteti Elephant Sanctuary was also a highlight, not only for the visit to the sanctuary itself but for all that we learned along the way about the Samburu culture and the conservancies.  

And when weather compromised our flight plan between Saruni Samburu and Mara, the team at Saruni ensured we were safe and made it to our next destination, waiting with us at the airstrips, communicating with the airline, and eventually transferring us to another airstrip (with bonus additional game drive on the way!).  They also ensured that other temporarily stranded guests from the plane not with Saruni were also taken care of and informed.  

The people at Saruni genuinely care about guest experience and the location and amenities at Saruni Samburu are unmatched.  We couldn’t be more happy with our choice to safari with Saruni!

Unbelievable!

What a fabulous experience. Nicole , the manager was very friendly, caring and efficient, she managed our needs and gave us some very pleasant surprises. Our drive/tour guide, Lepar was very knowledgeable and we were lucky to get him, we got to see all the give 4. I resort is on a hill, the valley below, with outdoor shower, it was an experience I will not forget, hope to go back again and would stay there.

The outstanding accommodations rivaled those of 5-star resorts, providing a luxurious and comfortable retreat. The Safari guides were not only highly knowledgeable but also passionate about sharing insightful details about the rich Samburu culture. To top it off, the culinary experience was exceptional, with three-course meals that left a lasting impression. Our stay at Saruni Samburu was nothing short of extraordinary, creating cherished memories of a remarkable safari adventure.

A Safari and Beyond

One of the best safari lodges I've experienced. First of all the rooms are stunning, and huge! We had a beautiful sitting area inside the tent as well as an outside patio, in addition to the large bedroom and bathroom (and an outside shower!) What made the room (s) especially wonderful was the view. Absolutely fabulous. But even better than our room, the pools, and the spa, was the outstanding staff. EVERYONE was SO friendly, fun and welcoming. It was truly like you were part of the family. Finally, we had 2 of the best guides. They went out of their way to make sure our sitings met our expectations. 

A True African Safari Experience

The Saruni Samburu Lodge is located on top of a rocky hill among several small mountains.  The view is incredible. The lodging was very comfortable and the food was fantastic.  The staff was very kind and helpful. I have some physical limitations and they were extremely accommodating.  It takes awhile to reach and awhile to get into the park each day, but it was worth it.  We were able to see many animals and a wonderful stay. 

Gorgeous view

My husband and I visited Saruni Samburu for our honeymoon this past July for a 4 day stay and had a wonderful time! The whole staff was amazing and we really enjoyed getting to spend time with Jomie and Kennedy. They went above and beyond to ensure we had a wonderful stay! Jomie was our guide and was very flexible in how we scheduled our safari drives throughout our stay. He was extremely knowledgable and taught us so much about the animals we saw in the reserve (just a friendly reminder, be patient and kind with your guides as they don't have any control over where the animals are or what types of animals you will see during your stay but they certainly do try their best to make sure you see what you want)! Our room was very comfortable with a stunning view and all of our meals were delicious!

All around, an amazing stay and we hope to visit again someday. To Mocp;e and the team at Saruni Samburu, asante sana tuonane tena hivi karibuni (thank you very much, see you again soon)!

Dream Honeymoon Experience

Our guides, Simon and Alphonso, were nothing short of amazing.  They tracked a leopard, a lioness hunting Impalas, a cheetah with four cubs, and much more!  They were also great hosts, treating us all, including our 87-year-old birthday girl, tremendously.    

Benson and Jackie have an excellent staff to take care of you.  Toti, Martin, and the rest of the team treated us great. The food was amazing and I promise you will eat too much!  

The rooms are great, with fantastic views of the scenery and animals visiting the local watering hole. It was fun to stay at a place where you don’t lock your doors during the day, but you do put away your things so the baboons don’t take them! 😂

An amazing experience in Kenya

If anyone asks me what they should do at least once in life, this place would be in the top group for my completed bucket list.

The people, resort, mountain view, Italian food, safari and all the animals all far exceeded our expectations.  My wife and I were celebrating our 44th anniversary and stayed at the resort in early September for 3 nights.
The lodge was filled with breathtaking views.  We loved the amenities and especially the swimming pool and the outdoor shower.  The food was fabulous, and we especially enjoyed the Italian flare.  We had dinner offsite one night under the stars with a bonfire with local dancers/warriors.  The dinner was amazing and we all celebrated with a couple that had just got engaged that day.

Our guide was Lepayon Lekoitip and he was awesome.  Everyone there thinks that they had the best guide, so maybe all of them are great.  We were able to see many animals beginning with the first day back from the airport.  We saw so many different animals that I told him he was setting himself up for failure on day 2, but he came through with even more.  We also enjoyed the bush walk or hike with him and was amazed at his abilities to track and explain.  He also included us one evening in the Warrior Academy where he was training the young men and included us in the activities.  That was a special time for us to learn more about the culture and about the wonderful people in Samburu.  We also enjoyed some picnic meals while out on the safaris.  

I cannot say enough about the staff at Saruni Samburu.  Everyone was extremely kind and sincerely helpful.  The entire staff was awesome, but I will name a few specifically.  The managers,  Nicole and Benson were awesome.  They were always available and asking if everything was good.  Our meals were covered by Kennedy and he was always on top of everything and willing to help.  Our guide Lepayon Lekotip was just amazing and really made our experience wonderful.

You will be very pleased if you are able to visit Saruni Samburu.
