We had such a wonderful time here. The staff were super friendly and very helpful.  The food was delicious and we even got to meet the chef. We stayed in the annex which was spacious and right next to the hotel. There were great paintings on the walls painted by the owner’s uncle. It’s a little way from the centre of the town but close to 2 lovely bath houses and the temple. We had a very enjoyable stay. 

Friendly, modern family run Ryoken

Great experience and price for this town! Nice room in family run establishment. Super friendly and helpful. Best washlet toilet ever in Japan. I loved eating their crab dog for breakfast. They even had umbrellas when it rained.

Annex was Great!

I loved staying at Utsuroi Annex and was so disappointed I could only stay a night. I stayed in the new Annex so this review is about that part of the Ryokan.  It’s the most wonderful combination of modern design, traditional ryokan and family business. I had one of the rooms looking into the street and it was just magical sitting there early evening and again in the morning watching the canal and people visiting the nearby onsens in yukata - so definitely ask for one of these rooms if possible. Everything about the hotel is spotlessly clean, beautifully designed and thoughtful (the photos on booking.com honestly don’t do it justice). The location is perfect as it’s in a pretty corner of Kinosaki away from the crowds but only 10mins flat walk back to the station. The hosts were divine and insisted on refunding half of what I had paid as booking.com had charged me for two people - only in Japan. If you stay at Utsoria make sure you go to “OFF” - wine bar and modern Italian restaurant just around the corner, the best meal I’ve had since being in Japan and fabulous atmosphere. I will be back to visit both again!

What a divine place

The hosts were very welcoming - they greeted us with tea and cookies and even offered a beer on the house. Everything was very clean, stylish and pleasant. I liked the decor and how cosy it was. There was a construction site opposite to it though, so not great views, but we later found out that it was them building another site, which means maybe next year they'll have something new to offer. Would stay there again. One little comment though - I wish they would have explained how to wear the yukata properly and give more instructions on how to use the public baths properly. We put on the yukata on the wrong way (with the right side on top) and it's a no-no to do so. We got told it's how they dress the dead.

Wonderful ryokan - great hosts.

We spend 3 days 2 nights visiting Kinosaki Onsen from 8-10 April. Weather is good still cold especially night. 
We arrived late at night using last train from Shin Osaka 7.00 pm and arrived in Kinosaki station 10.30 pm. We should transfer 2 times in Fukuchimaya and Toyooka since we missed the express direct train.
After arrived in Kinosaki we used taxi to hotel since shuttle is only until 18.00 pm. Walking is about 10 minutes. 
Taxi is about JPY 640.
The location of the hotel is not in front of the station but should walk a few minutes.
The hotel is good and room is big enough can be used by 4 people. All bed is using Tatami. One hotel consist about 7 rooms and we spend 5 rooms. So the hotel only serve us during that day.
The hotel have 2 shared bathrooms all in the ground floor and quite big since there is little onsen inside the bathroom. The Toilet is different with bathroom. Each room have toilet but no shower room.

We get a very good service from the hotel. They bring us to Aqua Marine using their own car. They are very helpful. The service is directly from the owner and her son.

We try one onsen from 7 onsen in this area but very crowded thus we only take photo outside onsen building. We just returned back to hotel and used Hotel onsen.
About restaurant, most of them closed around 6.00 pm. You will difficult to find restaurant after this hour. Alternatively you may go to Toyooka using train about 10 minutes. Its free using JR Pass.


3 Days visit to Kinosaki Onsen

I stayed one night in this ryokan, it's simply perfect!
Located in the center, it's very clean. Shower in the onsen.
The lady who checked in offered us green tea, gave us kimono and explained perfectly how to use the pass for the onsen. She made our tatami while we took bath.
She took us to the train station with her car.
Free wifi and bicycle.
I absolutely recommend it!!
