This is small Minshu (Bed and Breakfast) type place, in an older 2 story japanese style house.
Location is fantastic, 30m up the street is Yuzawa shrine and the Yu Road moving walkway to the ski field, 50m down the street is the famous O Yu public onsen and just past that the main shopping/restaurant street.

The owner Saeko is very friendly and helpful and speaks english.  

Although it seemed booked out early on Booking.com there were lots of empty rooms when we were there so may be worth contacting directly.

We had the family room which had just enough space for 4 beds on the floor and the heated table.  There was no kettle in the room but Saeko provided hot water on request.  There is no fridge, but in winter the gap between the window and ricepaper screen worked well to keep stuff cold.

Shared toilets and shower facilities are downstairs with bedrooms upstairs.  The futon beds were comfy and warm,  I was surprised I found the "bag of grains" type pillows quite comfortable.  

The wifi worked from the room, there was a large drying room in the basement.

We only had breakfast once, quite a nice japanese style one.  Other days we got something from stores down the street.

There was a small open area behind the house which was a highlight for my kids as they could build snowmen and snow forts.

I can honestly say if you want the real authentic Japanese stay look no further than Miyasakaya. I paid extra and got dinner and breakfast included in my stay, what an experience that was ! The location of Miyasakaya is only a short walk to the moving walkway which delivers you right to the ski fields, and the closest Onsen is only a short walk down the hill in the opposite direction. 
And by the way the snow was awesome!

Real Japanese Stay

The owner of the inn, Saeko san, speaks English. I took my sons from the USA to stay at Miyasakaya and deeply impressed by her creative cooking, attentive service and nice conversation. This area of Nagano, Japan is famous for snowy winter and is remote from major cities and people are really nice, but do not usually speak English. If you are traveling without enough knowledge of Japanese language, you tend to have difficulty here getting along. Not the case at Miyasakaya. The room rate is very reasonable and you want to stay here forever. Highly recommended for people who do not speak Japanese.
