Nikkorisou Backpackers

A perfect start for my journey through Japan. Nice and homely atmosphere on a wonderful spot. From the common room you see the river and you hear the sound of the water streaming. I would go there again any time. Aregato gozaimasu!

Just a short walk from the train station and an even shorter walk to the Shinkyo Bridge and Toshogu Shrine, Nikkorisou Backpackers is in a very convenient location. Even more important than convenience was the warmth and good energy that resides in the space. The earthy shared spaces were cozy and comfy. I loved that they had multiple layers of wooden decks that descended down toward the river. It is a very peaceful spot. The host/owner Jimmy is very knowledgeable and helpful- he had many suggestions for self guided walking tours. I'm so happy that I stayed here and got his recommendation because walking along the river path he suggested was one of my favorite days in Nikko. I had come for the Grand Autumn Festival to watch the horse archery, which was amazing, but I was SO glad to have a quiet, peaceful walk in solitude, too. Jimmy even takes his guests to the grocery store in a big van so everyone can get what they need easily. He answered ALL of my questions about different kinds of natto and we all know that there's no price tag on THAT. :D

You can see a beautiful river when you relax in the common room, the walls are covered with messages from guests all over the world. The (female) dorm has enough room and space, it's clean and offers some free stuff like body lotion, Q-tips.. there's also free shampoo, conditioner and body soap in the shower, which is more like a traditional Japanese shower with a stone floor.
Hiro, the owner, is really nice and attentive. He even drove me to a pharmacy when I couldn't find one and needed some medication. He puts all of his energy into this Hostel, which he manages alone, and it has become a great place to stay in Nikko.

It was such a quiet, cosy retreat and exactly what I needed. There were only 2 other guests when I stayed here back in July 2016 and it was exactly what I needed. The environment in comfortable and clean. I would definitely stay here again if I were to return to Japan as the location was also great as a hub to explore Nikko.

This is the friendliest and most personal hostel I've ever been to. The host/owner Jimmy (Hiro) is amazing. He's very kind, knowledgeable about the local area and funny. It's easy to meet other travellers, clean and very thoughtfully designed. He has loads of great tips and information for travellers. You can easily spend several days here exploring the local area and hanging out with Jimmy and the other guests. The hostel is located next to the Shinkyo bridge very close to the temples/shrines and good restaurants and shops. The beds are comfortable too and there's free toast/jam/butter for breakfast. Great value for money and the best place to stay in Nikko. Thanks again Jimmy! 

Nikkorisou Backpackers is a conveniently located hostel in Nikko. The hostel owner was friendly enough and there were no issues with check in etc... the hostel was clean, with heating and comfortable. There's a communal room where you can have tea, watch tv etc.. I visited at the beginning of Dec when the crowds were sparse and food options in town were a bit limited. Good budget place to stay very close to Shinkyo bridge, Tosho-gu, a bus drive away from Kegon falls and Lake Chuzenji. Wild monkeys can be seen near the falls and the lake. Yumoto onsen wasn't open during my stay. Felt safe as a female solo traveller. Overall good value as accommodation.

Good Value 

The hostel needs a deep cleanse and a renovation. The furniture is old, there’s mold in many corners around the hostel. Also, it doesn’t smell very well. On the social aspect, there’s no life. Not a place to socialize and meet other travelers. Lacking charisma.
