Met Matthew, one of the lovely owners, as soon as I arrived. He immediately made me feel welcome and gave me a great overview of the area. By the time I had checked-in, I was already booking an extra night! Before arriving, I had thought that one day/two nights was enough but there are some excellent hiking trails in the area so I decided to stay for another day. So glad that I did! The hike between temples 44 and 45 is a must-do for keen walkers. Beautiful stretch and a good workout!

I stayed in a single room and it was one of the best night sleep I've had in Japan so far. Amazing bed, loads of room and really quiet. WiFi works well throughout the residence and the communal kitchen/hangout was spacious and clean. The guesthouse is situated 5 mins walk from Dogo Onsen, 8 mins from the Dogo Onsen streetcar (tram line) and 20 mins walk to Maysuyama Castle and downtown. Great location. Lots of places to eat and drink within 5 minutes walk if you don't want to head downtown.

I wouldn't stay anywhere else if I was coming back to Matsuyama! Huge thanks to Matt for his wonderful local knowledge and very useful maps!

Best place to stay in Matsuyama!

Wonderful place, very friendly and relaxed atmosphere, perfect for getting some rest after intensive journey around Shikoku :) Great rest area at the roof! We liked is so much that decided to stay longer than planned :) Thank You and good luck!

Really great place :)

There's a real friendly and welcoming atmosphere in the hostel, the owners and staff are really nice and helpful. We stayed in the dorm which was Japanese style, clean, comfortable bed and good AC. The kitchen was fully equipped so we could actually cook for ourselves well. The location is good, short walk to the tram and onsen. Shared bathroom, Japanese style, but you can have the room to yourself so no communal showering! Would definitely recommend. 

Great hostel

Very friendly and knowledgeable hosts. Great value for money. Quite hard to find (Japanese GPS directs you to the road parallel if you enter the phone number - a low-key re-light district). Rooms are simple and spotless. The roof terrace is an additional bonus. Shared bathroom / onsen system works well. Can't think why anyone would stay anywhere else in Matsuyama

I'm so glad I made a side trip to Matsuyama and had the opportunity to spend a night at this great guesthouse! I arrived a little early and was greeted by Noriko when I was stowing my bag in the luggage room.  She pleasantly checked me in early and when I realized I had spent all my cash for the trip over, she still gave me a room key and trusted me to pay once I got some money from a nearby 7-Eleven.  The room was perfect!  Traditional tatami mats and futons (the room actually smelled earthy and fresh from the reed straw of the mats), plus a little sitting area and big sink, which can be closed off with shoji screens. The bathroom down the hall was convenient and super clean. The common areas were comfortable, eclectically decorated (LOVE the tree in the table!!) and the kitchen was like a chef's kitchen! The location was great too--a supermarket right down the street, Dogo Onsen a 5-10 minute walk away, as well as shops and restaurants.  I didn't meet Matthew, but I suspect he was the happy guy who greeted me as we passed on the stairs.  Oh, yeah, there's also a great roof terrace. Loved this place!!
