Pongyi is not just a hostel, it's really like a home in Kanazawa. I went there first in 2015 and decide to go back in kanazawa in 2023 just to be able to go back there. You will feel like home, and there is a chance the people there propose you to share a meal you make together or some nice activities. You will have a wonderful time and meet wonderful people. 

The rooms are confortable and the house is really cute. Best place to stay in Kanazawa ! 

Best place in Kanazawa, it feels like home. 

Nina-san, Masaaki-san, and Pyotaro were wonderful hosts! Guest House Pongyi is comfortable, clean, and well maintained. The hosts have no problem speaking in English and the guesthouse had visitors from around the world and Japan. Its in a great location a 5-10 minute walk from Kanazawa station and 20-25 minute walk to downtown Kanazawa. There are some nice restaurants and bars a couple blocks away as well. Definitely recommend and will stay again if I return to Kanazawa! Only issue might be accessibility, since stairs are required to access all the rooms due to the age of the building.

Welcoming and comfortable Guest House

Excellent hospitality from our hosts Nina and Matsaki, really good position near to the train station and the different places to see in Kanazawa, beautiful walk around the city from the hostel, a really enjoyable day !

1 day stayed at Pongy hostel

So much love and kindness in such a tiny (yet comfortable) guesthouse !
Best experience in Japan (and worldwide).
It's the first time I truly feel home during a trip, it's like your family is waiting for you when you come back after a day out. Time spent discussing and laughing, I will never forget it, thank you so much!

Warm guesthouse with big heart

One of my favourite places I've stayed at in Japan. Nina and Misaki were incredibly friendly and accommodating at all times. Gave great advice and recommendations for the local area and even helped with restaurant bookings. Wonderful building with a great atmosphere and interesting history. Really enjoyed spending time with the hosts and all their guests and friends that visited during my stay. Great amenities, tea and coffee available, and Nina will order pastries from a local bakery for breakfast. Also very convenient for both Kanazawa station - only 8 mins or so - and about 20 mins into very pleasant city centre along a nice river walk. Especially enjoyed doing calligraphy and folding peace cranes with the hosts. All around, an incredible place to stay.

Amazing!

so as I land in Japan I got to the pongyi guesthouse. One of the most memorable and good experiences I've had in Japan and in general of all the places I've stayed in before. As soon as I and my friend arrived, we were welcomed in the most warmest and amazing way by Nina-san and Masaki-san are the people who run the place. They explained to us about the place, and the area, and also connected us to the attractions in the area. The place itself is so beautifully authentic, and the hospitality above every level I expected,Because it was a good, warm atmosphere despite the cold outside, I slept for about 12 hours because the bed was so comfortable and the room heated to the perfect temperature adapted to Japan's cold winter days.
After two nights at the place me and my friend left, and unfortunately, I forgot my hat there, and the day after they sent me a message about the lost hat from the place, and to my luck was they made sure to send it back to me and check if the hat came to me. It is not at all obvious how they handled the case and also agreed to change the address they first sent the hat to and put extra effort into because I switch the hotel.

best place in japan

This place will always going to have a special place in our hearts.
During our trip to Japan we stayed in hotels hostels and other type of accommodations but this one was unique.

Upon arrival the hosts Misaki and Nina made us feel so welcomed. We were introduced to the other hosts and were given some tea. Everyone was so friendly and accommodating. 

The room was great and specious for us and felt like living in Oshin’s house if you remember that awesome TV series :)
The house rules were explained on arrival and they all make sense and easy to follow.

We had to wash our cloths and Nina was so helpful in assisting us to get our cloths dry. 

Also both Nina and Misaki made recommendations around places to eat visit in Kanazawa 

Room and the place is very clean and service from the hosts were out of this world.
We had to checkout so early on our last day and they were happy to see us during checkout. It was snowed the night before so they gave us some hand warmers to carry with us. 

It is a shame that we didn’t had enough time to spend with Misaki and Nina but will try to make amendments next time :)
Will visit Kanazawa just to see them again :)

The highlight of Kanazawa 

What an amazing place! We were only in Pongyi for one night but it was one of the most memorable parts of our trip to Japan. The hosts, Misaki and Nina, are so kind, thoughtful and generous - we had a lovely welcome and they looked after us like we were family. The location was great, very close to the station but you wouldn't know it from the quietness of the house and the little stream running alongside it. The room (we had the private tatami room) was a very, very good size for Japan and we felt very comfortable. Unlike some traditional houses it was also very warm. The guest house also has an amazing ethos of caring for others and a small amount from each stay goes towards an orphanage in Myanmar, which we found very touching. 
I would 100% recommend this place - it is a gem.

Unforgettable stay in the perfect guesthouse

I don’t even know where to start. Staying at Pongyi was not just staying in a guesthouse but more like staying with an old friend. First the space is clean and beautiful. But most importantly the love those people put into the house and the guests is outstanding. The first mail I got said that they weren’t a trendy hostel but they are much more than that. It is worth it going to Kanazawa just for staying at this place. From cooking for us to teaching us how to do origami this was a remarkable experience. Thank you, thank you.

A home far from home

Thank you Masaki and Nina! Thanks to Pongyi, our stay at Kanazawa was one of the best memories of our Japanese trip.
Would definitely recommand to everyone : the hosts are very welcoming, and the place is very comfortable yet historical.
