Do not stay here in low season! No reception other than a phone number that was unavailable. Waited twenty minutes for someone to arrive with the keys. This was only made possible via a resident living on the top floor who contacted the owner. I had received an email asking for time of arrival while I was on the plane so did not see it until I could find Wi-Fi. The owner/worker did not speak English and we spoke little Italian so the language barrier was a major problem. He insisted on keeping our passports for our entire stay! I offered to pay in advance but he refused. The restaurant was closed due to low season but this also meant that there was no breakfast and we were still charged the same rate! This wasn't clarified upon arrival. The day we checked out he was waiting for us and wanted us to pay cash but I refused. He wrote down the time of check out but when that time came there was no one there to take our keys, couldn't contact anyone by phone so had to post them through the letterbox outside the building. 
There is a winding staircase and two flights of stairs to reach the rooms, which isn't too much of a problem but could be for some. The location is good being right on the front strip. Most restaurants and bars were closed due to low season so not ideal but the few that were open were excellent. There is an information centre next door which was a godsend. Bus links are good but I would suggest avoiding the train station due to its location...there are no pavements to get to or from it and the roads are busy and dangerous! The bus up to Taormina is 3 Euros return payable to the driver but the last bus back is at 21:30. 
The Bed and (Breakfast!) itself is very clean. Cleaning is done daily. The room was a good size although the shower was on the small side. The balcony was large with two chairs and a table and a wonderful place to sit and have a morning cuppa looking at the view. There is road noise but not excessive.
I would not return in low season but I expect in high season it could be quite pleasant.

Uneasy Experience

I stayed here only for 2 days but it was fantastic. Perfect location to the beach and right on the main strip with many bars and restaurants. Breakfast was above and beyond perfect. We had many dietary restrictions and The manager (Gian Luca)  went out to buy specific things for us for the morning without being asked. He even took us himself to the airport the morning we departed. The best though was when our taxi driver who brought us to Hannabael wanted to charge us 130 euro for the trip. We argued over this until we went inside Hannabael and Gian Luca helped us get rid of the driver and made it clear what the rate from the airport to the hotel was (85 is the going rate but Hannabael does it for 70!). Overall, perfect stay and great hospitality. I would return in a heartbeat.
