The house is beautiful and green, surrounded by a lovely garden and lots of plants inside the house. A real gem inside the city. The rooms are spacious and clean. You have lots of nice cafes and restaurants in walking distance just nearby. Because it‘s in a back alley you don’t hear the street at all. But get ready for the sound of the mosque just next to the house - but that‘s part of experiencing Java. ☺️
The best part of staying in Villa Sambal is the beautiful host Herni, such a lovely and kind woman, she made my stay unforgettable! Make sure to join one of her cooking classes, the food is amazing! The kitchen downstairs is also the place for her cooking classes, so you might be lucky to eat her delicious food more than once because it‘s always too much and everybody has to help eat it. 😉 She also took me on a walking tour in the city and the market in the morning and showed me a cat cafe. She made sure I‘d feel like home. I even extended my stay from 5 to 10 days in the end because I didn‘t wanna leave.
The turtles living downstairs are also super cute and fun to watch!
It was the best place I stayed in Java and I‘d always come back!

Best place to stay in Yogyakarta!

We (5 friends in total) did a cooking class in villa Sambal with he lovely host Herni. We made several dishes and it was delicious! We had enough food to eat twice from it (which we did the next day and the acar was even better then). I highly recommend to do a cooking class here.

Cooking Class Villa Sambal

We visited villa Sambal and did a cooking course with Herni (the owner). She helped us making some great Indonesian dishes and got to learn some new stuff. It tasted delicious and  had to keep ourselves from overeating. If you are thinking of doing a traditional cooking course this is the place!

P.s. We didn't sleep at villa Sambal but we got to see the rooms and they looked great! 

Cooking course at villa sambal

At first of all, Herni is great...she is a welcoming, generous, helpful and always smiling person. She helped me a lot in my two stays in Villa Sambal. Her home is very clean, every day a nice old lady tidily cleans up, the traditional shower is quiet funny(I try to make it similar at home), you can use all day free fresh water, tea and coffee and  there are also affordable drinks always available in the fridge. Herni brings a lot of fruits and little snacks to share with everybody. She makes you feel kinda living in a second home.
We visited a chocolate museum, had breakfast at blue stepps (a nice view over a valley), tasted Durian and many more activities I will remember in future.
Totally recommendable. Her home is well located and eveything you need is nearby...don´t hesitate to stay at this place;)

an amazing place to rest for a while

This breezy relaxed architect-designed space suits people who want both space and independence.
I was made very welcome here - a good mix of hospitality and privacy. There were some interesting co-visitors, artists and anthropologists, at the same time who I would meet in the kitchen or over the dinner table, but no pressure for excessive socialising.There is an artist collective next door and fine dining down the road, and this gorgeously designed little haven in the middle of it all; highly recommended.

What a lovely place in a lovely location

Villa Sambal, is a good place to stay with good price. Located in the south area of Jogja, where surrounded by art galleries & communities, good location to go everywhere also many good food around the villa. This place really feels like home. Silent, green, clean, bike for free, nice society.

Stay In This villa for short holiday at the weekend escape From Bali Life a while This place so amazing and the owner really nice and friendly person ibu Heni pick me up From airport and also buy me bakso which is my favorit food ever,room are simple but nice and decorated really Homy Classic especially the TV room Love it much and sometimes i feel asleep There so Comfy
Bathroom nice and simple include hot water which i need the most.
You get What you Paid more than expected

Feel homey is always the best feeling

Slept in the single room for two nights, altough the room and the bathromm have a typical roof with openings, there was no problem at all! Clean place, lovely garden, lovely host mrs herni treated me like a prince! Neighborhood is very calm, you barely hear the traffic, i felt like i was at home!
